terrancew_hod Posted January 6, 2009 Posted January 6, 2009 I went to that link and thought: "That's a HARD 17... the poor kid has aged!" I guess one of my pet peeves is announcing a big project to everyone before you actually start. And most of the time these announcements mean nothing because the people then realize how big the scope is then quit. I think it puts a person's integrity in question when they can't deliver what they promise. It's like the coaster I'm working on in the game thread, I was trying my hand at doing different things and I didn't announce anything or present a picture until I had something tangible to show... instead of telling everyone what I was going to do then realizing I don't have the skills to actually implement it and wind up with egg on my face. Also priorities change; what's important now may change next week. So I would suggest to people to announce something after you have something to show, if nothing to keep the expectations realistic. This is precisely why we said nothing about TPR TV until it became a reality that we could share with everyone even though it's still in development. We worked on it for about 8 months before we got it to the point where we could invite people to check it out. --Robb
ginzo Posted January 6, 2009 Posted January 6, 2009 I don't mean to demean you in any way, but from the look of those screen shots you need SERIOUS help in the graphic design department. Maybe you could find some freeware stock designs that you could use to get your site going. What you have now looks 12 years out of date.
terrancew_hod Posted January 6, 2009 Posted January 6, 2009 What you have now looks 12 years out of date. I got nostalgic looking at them! I remember creating HTML tables on my first site (in 1997) with the lines still in them, thinking I did something great! But it was all about content; such adult themes were on that first site! Terry
ginzo Posted January 7, 2009 Posted January 7, 2009 But it was all about content; such adult themes were on that first site! Terry had an adult website? Who would have thought.
terrancew_hod Posted January 7, 2009 Posted January 7, 2009 Not quite! But we sure were rating the nakkid menz. Now, my friends still talk about it and I say "Meh. Have you seen my dark ride coaster?" Terry "Sex? What's that?" Weaver
Ccron10 Posted January 7, 2009 Author Posted January 7, 2009 I said earlier that the site you guys are talking about is the wrong one. Google Hersheypark Crazy and it's the first site on the list.
ginzo Posted January 7, 2009 Posted January 7, 2009 ^You really should paste in the URL when you want people to look at your site.
spaceace12 Posted January 7, 2009 Posted January 7, 2009 Just for kicks, went to the site front page, it said to click on forums for updates. Went to forums, every single forum last post was a spam thread.
Ccron10 Posted January 7, 2009 Author Posted January 7, 2009 Just for kicks, went to the site front page, it said to click on forums for updates. Went to forums, every single forum last post was a spam thread. The forums were abandoned for a few years which caused them to be taken over by spammers. As far as for not posting a link, I apalogize because right now I am posting from my ipod.
robbalvey Posted January 7, 2009 Posted January 7, 2009 I said earlier that the site you guys are talking about is the wrong one. I'm not talking about the wrong one, I'm talking about the one that is the title of this thread: HPCrazy.com Hersheypark fansite It seems like YOU are talking about the wrong website. If you go to www.hpcrazy.com, like it says in the thread title, you do NOT get a Hersheypark website. If you aren't talking about www.hpcrazy.com then what is this thread about? --Robb
Swimace Posted January 7, 2009 Posted January 7, 2009 ^This entire thread seems to be about some old tripod site: http://members.tripod.com/matt.meckley/ Are you trying to switch the site over to the actual "hpcrazy.com" address or is this the site you're talking about?
terrancew_hod Posted January 7, 2009 Posted January 7, 2009 A lot has happened since July. The person who planned on helping us get an updated site up had backed out which caused us to make some changes. In October I purchased a web design program and started immediately on the site. At the beginning of December I was a quarter of the way through with the site when I got an idea to make the site more attractive. So for the past month I have redone what I had already done on the site and a lot more. The site is now Boardwalk-themed since the Seaquel is opening this year. Right now I have most of the main pages up. The timeline, and rides pages for all the rides in Founder's Circle, Comet Hollow, Music Box Way and half of Minetown done. I still need to finish the rest of the pages, work on the removed ride pages, add the food, shops, entertainment, and Boardwalk pages. i also need to get the forums up, purchase the hosting, and domain name. I plan on finishing the site sometime in February or March just in time for the summer season and Springtime in the Park. If anybody wants to donate some of their photos to use in the site, just drop me a private message. Let's start from here. 1. Get your pages together. Make sure your links work. 2. If your site is supposed to go to HPCrazy.com or another site, get that together. 3. Once your initial pages are finished (and uploaded) and the URL is ready, THEN you announce your site with the proper URL. Oh, don't forget to test it thoroughly before you announce it. This way, people can view it and give you any feedback to make it better. I think this whole thread is an exercise in how not to do a project. When you do it backwards, you end up with this confusion. Right now, this is a hot dog's mess. Terry
robbalvey Posted January 7, 2009 Posted January 7, 2009 ^This entire thread seems to be about some old tripod site:http://members.tripod.com/matt.meckley/ That much I know and obviously I figured out on my own, my point was that's not what the thread title says. Had the thread title read: http://members,tripod.com/matt.meckley/ Hersheypark fansite There wouldn't be all this confusion. The lesson here that we are all trying to show these guys is this is NOT how to create and launch a website. But I think Terry explained that best in his last post. --Robb
TheBannedKid Posted January 7, 2009 Posted January 7, 2009 3. Once your initial pages are finished (and uploaded) and the URL is ready, THEN you announce your site with the proper URL. Oh, don't forget to test it thoroughly before you announce it. This way, people can view it and give you any feedback to make it better. Yea, so you can catch that your HPNetwork link leads to a blank page with this at the top: "Mr Garrison said You DIIIIIIEEEEEE. Out of luck, try again!!!!" For someone trying for a "professional" site your sure are doing a lousy job.
BeemerBoy Posted January 7, 2009 Posted January 7, 2009 Ccron, I'll be perfectly honest here. I think what you need to consider is who you're really doing this for? In other words, it seems more like a personal mission to achieve something that will satisfy your own appreciation for Hersheypark, and not many others'. You have to ask yourself questions like, "What will this fan site offer that can't be found on sites such as, oh, TPR?" and "In the end, is all my time and effort really accomplishing anything?" etc., etc. Trust us, I seriously doubt anyone is trying to discredit your zest and admiration for Hersheypark, and I know there is a bunch of members who completely understand the work involved in creating a "professional looking" site, but sometimes you just need to be honest with yourself and break things down to simplest terms. Is this project really working out? One more thing to consider, take for instance Shane's Amusement Attic thread. It's clearly obvious that Shane could easily create his own dedicated site showcasing the plethora of classic amusement industry related items he displays here. Instead, with his hard work and dedication, he chose to enhance TPR in his own small way...although "small" is probably an understatement, and many of us are very appreciative of his effort! I'm not saying you should immediately follow suit in the exact manner, but perhaps reevaluate what you have to present to the public, and exactly what size audience you expect to have. It may be difficult to admit, but sometimes it's just not gonna work.
Ccron10 Posted January 7, 2009 Author Posted January 7, 2009 BeemerBoy, you're right. My friend Matt built the old Hersheypark Crazy site, but overtime he became to busy to run it. Then overtime other sites started failing such as HPOnline and HPSlappy. The only reason why I'm building this site is because Matt is interested in bringing the site back and with some new and the latest info. I'll talk what you said over with him. If the site does continue, it would be smaller and more scaled back. I believe I did take this a little too far.
mcjaco Posted January 7, 2009 Posted January 7, 2009 I believe I did take this a little too far. A trend that seems to happen in many of your projects. Learn from this, you will. Yes.
robbalvey Posted January 8, 2009 Posted January 8, 2009 The more I read this thread...the dumber I get. Here's what we are going to do...I'm going to close this thread. When and ONLY when the new HPCrazy.com is actually done and live, you can start a new thread and we will give you feedback. Good luck on the project! --Robb
