RctInfinity
Hi "peoples"! I'm going to EPCOT this Tuesday. I'm fine with Soarin', but what's really on my mind is Mission:SPACE. I kind of feel nervous (not that I'm gonna' get sick or anything) to ride it because everybody's saying that it's SO intense. So can you guys tell me what it's like? Twister II
They do offer motion sickness bags. After I rode it, I figured out why no one was in line. cause its horable. I didn't like it at all. When you get in the queue you walk threw a very spacey theme. Then you get put into seperate doors and told to stand on a number(1-2-3-4). The doors close and you are shown a video (Kinda like on AE and Test Track). After the video you walk threw another pair of doors and asked again to stand on your number (1-2-3-4). That is when they assign you your job: Engineer, Piolet, Captin, and I cant remember. Each person is givin 2 jobs (Engineer dose hyperspace and sleep.) You are once again show another video. When the video concludes you follow arrows to your "pod" or space ship. Once you get in, the doors close, and you pull down your restraints and the control pannel comes down into reaching distance. Once again, another video, and then you are ready for lauch. The ride starts with lauch, you lauch into outer space, fly around the moon, and land on mars. And thats about it. Then you exit the pod and follow the arrows down to the exit door where you follow a LONG hallway to a gift shop.
Mr Stratosphere
I actually enjoyed this ride very much. Maybe because i love spinning. The biggest thing is to not take your eyes off of the monitor in front of you. If you look to your side you will definately get the feeling of spinning. I did it on purpose because i love the feeling. It is a great attraction, i loved it! Hope you do too.
CoasterFanatic
I find pretty wild how many people discount this ride. It is true that a very small percentage of people will get sick on this ride, but over 8 million people have enjoyed it since it debuted. I have been on it about a half dozen times. The first time I rode it, I got right back in line (something I rarely do ... besides ERTs) because I just had to get another ride to figure it all out. The forces and simulations of the ride are very believable. The only two parts that I could notice where a slight tilt during the initial launch and you can hear the centrifuge winding up right after the hibernation sequence. My favorite part is the slingshot (hitting the boosters). It pulls you really good and even reminds me a little of stronger launched coasters (Hypersonic). Warnings: This ride spins while you face the central axis (about as much force as a round up. If you can ride a round-up, rotor, enterprise, etc ... you will be fine) Claustrophobia (if tight spaces bother you, this ride might get to you. The "pods" are really cramped. I am slightly claustrophobic and the ride would completely freak me out if not for the vent blowing cool air in your face. That helps a lot.) Coasters 4 ever
I have closed my eyes and looked away from the screen but never felt dizzy or like I was spinning. Mission: SPACE is one of my favorite rides. Don't listen to all those other people saying that it is a dumb/boring ride, it is one of the best thrill rides there. IMO, it is second at WDW only to RnRC.
coasters 4 me
I love this ride. I think it is one of the best rides at WDW. (Apart from TOT and RnRC) I love the way you push the button and you go flying back into your seat. It really makes you feel in control of the ride. I love the forces on it. The theming is pretty good to. I have to go on things like this by my-self because my mum is kinda cluastrofobic and my dad gets sick easily. This was good for me because of the single rider queue. But on the 30th December, I went on, but the wait was like 3 hours, and 1hrs and 30mins. I got fast pass. This is one of my favourite rides. I definately recomend it. ChrisFL
It's the world's most technologically advanced spin 'n' puke It's short, it's intense, the video you're looking at could have been done on a PS2 and your supposed control of the craft, isn't really control as the ride does everything automatically anyway. Rode it once and never had the desire to ride it again.
dandaman
I'll agree with the above, and say that you're in for one helluva rush. Even though 2.5 G's doesn't sound like much... it's consistent, and you're on your back. (Note: That's just the launch. The moon slingshot is quite fun, too... as is the projected weightlessness... and the... oh. )
RctInfinity
Thanks, guys! Keep them coming!
TwistedTrack
i thought it was awsome! It pulls lots of g's on you to provide the feeling of a space launch. If you keep looking straight at the screen and not to the side you will most likely not get sick ( is what ive heard, i didnt want to find out if it was true or not ). i went on it a couple of times. CoasterFanatic
About the number of pods: There are 10 pods (each holding 4 people) on each ride system. There are 4 seperate ride systems. 160 people per cycle. 12+ Cycles per hour 1920+ hourly capacity. Of couse. This is all estimated // Yeah I'm a nerd
Twister II
I think there are only 6 pods per simulator, not 10. (maybe even 5)
coasters 4 me
No, I think there are 10. From what I remember from last time.
dandaman
I'm pretty sure there are 10 pods. (5 on red side, 5 on blue.)
RctInfinity
There are sides?
sfdlfan11
yeah, but they dont mean much, its just two different pods going at once. i had to go on alone cuase my family get like motion sickness from anything that moves, so i got right on not knowing what to expect and the only i didnt like at all was the beginning take off. i didnt like the pressure, but other than that it was a pretty intense and fun ride! coasterdude5
So do the pods just spin to simulate the launch?
dandaman
I think so. It appears to be that way when you walk in to the big area for your pods (it looks like it has extending arms reaching the centre). Also, the pre-board video has it spinning in the background, behing the words, "If you are afraid of closed, dark spaces, spinning, etc..."
