Yankee cannonball Posted December 26, 2007 Posted December 26, 2007 What is the idea of a standing coaster? is there some sort of thrill knowing your crotch is gonna get pounded into oblivion?
Goliath513 Posted December 26, 2007 Posted December 26, 2007 http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stand-up_roller_coaster They're not as bad as people say they are.
Yankee cannonball Posted December 26, 2007 Author Posted December 26, 2007 I know they aren't too bad, but what's the point? I really don't get how standing is more exciting.
Angry_Gumball Posted December 26, 2007 Posted December 26, 2007 Well, having ridden 2 stand ups (both B&M and both in CA) I'd say they offer something that standard sit-downs don't: full force on positive g's. If you're sitting, the feel of the positive g's seem to end at your butt as it's plastered in the seat. On the standup, you get the whole feeling in your entire body. It does sound kind of funny though if you said/thought "I stood and waited an hour to stand up even more for 2 minutes..." BTW, shouldn't this be in the Theme Parks, Roller Coasters & whatever the name says now section as it has to do with the actual standup coaster design and not about any of these coaster sims/games/models?
WillMontu Posted December 26, 2007 Posted December 26, 2007 They were a bit of a novelty in the 90s and you don't see them built anymore. People though that parks would try and top Riddler's Revenge but after that we only saw Scorcher in 1999 and nothing after that.
kraken613 Posted December 26, 2007 Posted December 26, 2007 Ive ridden Vortex at Carowind alot its good but nothing amazing. I would rather be on Top Gun for sure!
TheRapidsNerd Posted January 1, 2008 Posted January 1, 2008 Wasn't there a similar discussion to this a couple months back? I think the short answer, at least for the 80's, was gimmick. It hadn't really been done and coasters like Rail Blazer (converted River King Mine Train) and EXT (converted Scream Roller corkscrew) didn't fair too well even though it was a crazy idea for the time. I had a lot of friends that rode KI King Cobra and KD Shockwave (which had Togo bicycle type seats verses whatever's on the B&Ms). They basically said, it felt a little wierd to stand up, but your manhood wasn't in danger, despite what one would think. Frankly, when I run my RCT3 version of King Cobra, apart from a slightly higher camera perspective, it really doesn't "feel" any different from riding, say, a sit down Schwartzkopf. You don't think, "hey, I'm riding a stand-up coaster" you just ride like normal. Hope that helps answer your question.
astroworldfan1 Posted January 1, 2008 Posted January 1, 2008 I rode the Georgia Scorcher and it was fast and it was fun! What a rush standing up!
Tanks4me05 Posted January 1, 2008 Posted January 1, 2008 Havin ridden Mantis at Cedar Point, I can say that your manhood is not in danger. At least on B&M Stand Ups. However, there was a bit of head banging, but IMO that's what's fun about it. Also, as people have stated in this thread before, the G forces are seemingly amplified by a large amount due to standing up. Having been on 83 sit downs (sit down, invert, floorless, spinning, etc.) and one Stand Up coaster, I can say that Stand Up coasters are definitely a very unique experience. Personally, if B&M just makes the OTSRs with softer materials, Stand Up coasters can be a GREAT design. They have a lot of potential.
Golfie Posted January 18, 2008 Posted January 18, 2008 It's called pushing the seat down a little before they lock the seats so it's not up in your crotch when you ride it. The only thing I don't like about stand ups is the positive g's making your legs and feet feel like they're going to explode
sfotkid Posted January 19, 2008 Posted January 19, 2008 See, Johnny Some people like having there balls squished. Maybe by a woman in leather and a wip with a apple in your mouth, or maybe by a coaster, Now lets go outback and play some catch, we can talk about the trouble your having in school and why girls are so interesting all of the sudden. Come on sport!
