Divv3k
I'm sure the actors will be able to have some kind of contact with the guests. It's one of the key elements of the experience. Maybe they'll get the guests to sign some kind of waiver before going in.
Fallen Heretic
knowing that an alien could actually grab you just heightens the fear and makes the experience more real. I remember seeing huge burly guys throwing their screaming girlfriends towards the Alien as a distraction while they bolted the other way. Ive seen fathers pushing their kids to the side to get away as well. In the UK, Europe and Japan there shouldnt be a probelm, but in the US it might be an issue. I do hope there are waivers or something. Oh, on a slight side note, for a few months they had a Predator in there as well. With AVP2 I think that will make a return. Divv3k
Wow, never knew there was a Predator in there at one point! Funnily enough, I was thinking the other day that it might be smart to include a Predator to hype the AVP2 movie!
WildMouse
I went to a roadshow version of Alien War at the Bournemouth International Centre many, many moons ago (early 90's). Although I can't remember everything step by step, I DO remember it being absolutely terrifying, especially when one of the 'civilians' got dragged away by an alien! I also remember someone else getting grabbed in a 'lift', but one of the Marines saved them by shooting at the alien. We had the opportunity to 'meet' the alien once the ordeal was over. Fngers crossed all goes to plan regarding the proposed tour. I'll certainly give it a go.
nemesis-storm
A new update on Haunted Attractions about AW. Sounds very interesting.
Divv3k
Disappointed to hear it's not opening in July as originally hoped. Halloween time may be a more fitting opening for Alien War anyway. Not much new info, but still, any new info on Alien War is good!
Fallen Heretic
Information is only coming in teeny tiny pieces, but Im still getting excited. I read in an interview that the plan is to stick with the original "what you can't see is scarier than what you can" ethos. Alien War was a new concept when it started, I wonder if it will hold the level of fear it had now that we are more used to live walk throughs? I really hope it does. You could really let yourself believe you were in the Alien universe. Even with all the new attractions around these days, Alien War was still the most absorbing, and for that reason, the most frightening thing I have experienced. If this show lives up to its history, the U.S. is in for a treat when the show gets there. How many horror attractions are there in the states where the monsters can abduct the guests? Fallen Heretic
Just in case anyone interested hasn't been keeping up with the Myspace, Alien War will not be starting its run in Glasgow. They have an offer of a location in Central London. They are now looking at an April 2008 London opening. Its a shame it will miss the Alien v Predator 2 hype. bobafett
Wow, I really hope it comes to the states. I would definitely go and experience it. I hope that they don't tone it down and not let the actors touch you. That adds to the whole experience.
Fallen Heretic
Its been quiet for a long time and they missed their April target date. however, yesterday the myspace page put up a new blog entry... They wont make London this year, but are planing a limited run, with details to follow soon. Im so glad this is still alive. I had feared it had quietly died. Fallen Heretic
Thanks to Andrews for pointing out this excellent peice of news. I was too busy and didnt catch it the day it was released. Alien War has an official opening date. YES! From the myspace page (also noted on screamscape and Hauntedattractions): The London show will now not happen until mid 2009 so to keep things ticking over we are delighted to say that Alin Wars will return back to its original home in the creepy basement at The Arches in Glasgow, Scotland, UK.It will open on November 28th 2008 and the special premier VIP of this new show will be on the 27th Nov. Divv3k
So, who wants to go get scared? Me! I'm ecstatic about this news. For a while there I really thought Alien War was dead in the water. We'll definitely need to get along to The Arches to check it out. Apparently it's on there from November 28th til March 2009 so there's a good amount of time for people to check it out. cobra_roll06
Ha! I've just applied for a job at the Arches...but as a bartender not a scare actor! My mate who does work there though says I might be able to go along to the VIP/Staff night. Was this not at the Irn-Bru carnival at one point? I'm sure I remember seeing something like it there. Fallen Heretic
Yeah, they had it at the Carnival, but the set was pertty basic, and it wasnt quite as cool as when it was in the Arches (I never visited it in london). Im not sure if that was an 'official' show at the Carnival, or just the old Glasgow staff doing their own version off their own backs. It was fun either way though. So, who thinks a TPR meetup of interested brits should be on the cards?
Fallen Heretic
Seems it has now slipped to the 6th December. Auditions have already passed, so maybe they are having set or technology issues. Either way, its only an extra week to wait.
Fallen Heretic
Just wanted to quickly say that Ive now been to this, and although it is rather short for your £10, its also great, and builds tension really well. Due to breaking ties with Fox, there is no alien queen or alien egg chamber. Feels like maybe they couldnt fit all of the new set in the venue anyway, perhaps the show may be longer in london when it opens there. Its still definately worth a visit, in my opinion. If you havent done it before, then you have to do it. Also, it seems the Aliens are no longer as hands-on as they used to be. Didnt get near us. Perhaps we had a good marine. They say that they change the show frequently so I will be going back to check how different a second run through will be. Oh, they also have T-shirts for you souvineer whores. tigana
I've been at Alien War in London several times and I loved it! I've been checking out youtube lately and found this clip with segments on Aliens Ride in San Francisco. Can't find much about it on the web. Has anyone experienced the Ride? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=22GFM-Ni0YA&feature=channel_page
Fallen Heretic
I had forgotten to post this here when I first found out, but the Alien Wars run in glasgow has been extended to August. They have also added a couple of new scares, or so they tell me.
Fallen Heretic
Almost forgot to add this in here. Haunted attractions have reported that a second Alien War will open in Liverpool this summer. This will open while the Glasgow version is still running. Also good news for those Brits who are further south, They are still looking to open in London. Currently they are talking with County Hall. They have re-entered talks with Fox, regarding bringing back the Alien theme with the movies for a hopeful opening in the USA, maybe LA or Vegas. Fallen Heretic
Its not like me to revive an old dead thread like this, but its relevant, promise! Alien War had a run in liverpool which was rather short lived. The good news is it has a new location. Golden mile centre in blackpool. Right on central prom. Its now called Alien Attack and is expected to open this month. The live website should be opening soon as well. Anyone here on the UK trip while its open might like to give it a go. robbalvey
Keep us posted! I haven't seen it since it was near the Trocodero YEARS ago! --Robb
piers
When this was in the Trocadeo is was truly amazing but now for some reason the attraction is not allowed to use the Xenomorph character from the alien movies which makes me think it will be a lot less fun. Although I guess if its immersive enough and has good enough actors it could still be a lot of fun. Edited May 6, 2010 by piers
Fallen Heretic
When it was in glasgow, there were differences between the alien they are using and the one in the film, but its similar enough that in the dark with flashing lights, you don't really notice that its not a xenomorph unless you get very close. It wont be colonial marines, but instead some other organisation with guns and flak jackets. But not from the 20th century fox movie of which they dont have the rights at the moment. If you catch the drift. The show actually could run very well in glasgow with minimal staff, to the point you never really knew just how many people were working it. And they sometimes put on special, extra-scary shows for repeat visitors or special groups.
Fallen Heretic
I still dont know an official opening date yet, nor is the website live. However, I do have one little bit of further information. For those in the Brit crew who went through Alien wars in Glasgow last year, may remember the SUB guy (or 'unofficial marine') was called Draven. In character obviously. Well, he just popped up on facebook saying he will be leading the new Blackpool show, and it will be scarier that the glasgow version. I remember him as doing a particularly good job the twice that I went round with him. He seems to love what he does, and it makes the difference I reckon.
