I tried to use one of those lame temporary CF Maxx Passes, purchased at PKI, at Knott's today. It would not scan at the gate.

 

Guest relations quickly corrected the situation by giving me comp tickets. They did photocopy my temporary passes first though.

I thought Cedar Fair pass-holders had to go through GR to get into other parks, maybe that is why it didn't scan?

 

Odd. I guess I just assumed that it would scan. Six Flags passes scan wherever you go.

CF and Paramount Passes have believe it or not always been worse than the SF passes!

 

It's a hassle, but I've always had to go to GR if I was visiting a park in the chain, NOT the one that I bought the pass at to get a comp ticket to use for that days visit.

When I went to four different CF parks in 2005 with my Dorney Pass I encountered a different tactic at each park:

 

Geauga Lake - scanned my pass

CP - Had to sign in at the gate

MiA - Had to get a ticket from Guest Relations

VF - Went to guest relations and they just pointed at the back door and told me to walk through

I went to Dorney a few years ago with my Cedar Point season pass. I had to go to Guest Relations to get a comp pass. They copied my barcode number into a big binder and gave me the comp pass.

 

Six Flags season passes from any Six Flags park seem to scan OK at other SF parks. I did have a Six Flags Worlds of Adventure season pass about 2 years ago. I visit SFoT in the midst of the transition of SFWOA to Geuaga Lake. The employee at the gate had trouble scanning my pass, but he let me through anyway. The other Texas Six Flags (SFFT and SFAW) scanned the pass with no problems.

I had no problems with my BGE-purchased pass at BGA or Adventure Island last October.

 

My understanding about the Cedar Fair Maxx Pass is that you have to go back in the spring to park you purchased it from (in my case, PKD) to get your "permanent" pass, which is supposed to work at all Cedar Fair parks.

 

We shall see.

I asked PCW about if it was possible to use my voucher at Knotts in March. They said the pass had to be processed first. So I'd have to pay admission, or they would refund my PCW pass so that I could buy a Knotts pass(which is about 2x as much).

 

So I'm not going to Knotts anymore out of spite.

^The new Cedar Fair administration is not filling me with confidence so far. Looks like everything is being handled on a park-by-park basis. For example, I was told that the Maxx Pass I purchased (when "renewing" my old Paramount pass) couldn't be used at any other Cedar Fair park during the 2006 season; however, Carowinds was, it seems, honoring those passes for Scarowinds last October.

Chuck - that seems to be a difference between Six Flags and Cedar Fair. It appears that CF makes each park a profit center and the individual managers accountable for turning a profit at each park, but I'm not so sure that is the case at SF over the years.

 

However, due to the autonomous of the parks the inter-park communication is not always standardized and ideal. That is the one thing that bugs me the most about CF; more than: all the garbage pails, neutering of woodies, killing the character of historic parks, etc...

 

However, as a greedy Cedar Fair shareholder I take the bad with the good.

I dunno. I rode Ghostrider today. Letting that obviously once-great ride fall into its current state is unforgivable. It was almost as bad as Son of Beast. I'd take good rides before good interpark communication any day.

 

Cedar Fair should just dismantle all their woodies. They haven't a clue how to run them.

 

As for the interpark issue. All those computer systems should be standardized. There should be one IT department that runs the whole thing, giving the entire chain a standard computing platform. It's bad business to do it any other way.

^Well, Cedar Fair can't do much to screw up PKD's Hurler--Paramount took care of that.

 

But please don't screw up Rebel Yell or Grizzly, CF.

The pass Joe has is the same one Julia and I have, it's been "processed" AKA our pictures were taken, but we need to exchange them for the plastic card version this spring when PKI opens. We have these little cardboard things that say Temporary Maxx Pass on them. Your pass voucher is something different.

As a shareholder, I have suggested that to the the company. It is in their plans. Corporate speak for - on the long to do list.

Huge cost savings there. Though it sadly means that some mid-level IT managers will probably get sacked.

I completely agree. I've never seen that go well. Most companies that use Indian labor never seem to bother to check the english skills of the firms they hire. It's always fun to try to work with a company when they don't even really speak your language.

Our company outsourced a project to Pakistan a couple years ago. Two years later and we've taken the project back and been forced to totally redo the entire thing. In the end it's cost us years and thousands of dollars more just because the outsourced project was so bad.

 

Just because it looks like the cheapest option, doesn't mean it actually is the cheapest option.

I'm guessing you had a good day at Knotts, Joe? How has your trip been so far, and when are you coming back here? We need to do lunch so I can have a full report of the parks I haven't gotten to in California.

Knott's was kinda a let down. We got the credits and left. After having been at Disney the day before, we couldn't hang with that ghetto park. Basically, believe everything the Alveys say about Knott's. Xcellerator was kinda fun, and Silver Bullet was a very average invert. We got pretty mad at the fact that they try to charge $5 to ride their giant swing ride. Basic flat rides should not be upcharge attractions.

I hope this is just a problem with the temp cards.

 

I'll be picking up my plastic MAXX pass in about 2 months.

 

I'm planning to go to GL and CP, so hopefully it won't have issues.

Regardless of whatever hoops I may have to jump through, it's good to know that my CF pass (bought at PKD) could get me into Knott's this winter. There's still a remote chance that I might make it.

 

I found it odd that I had to keep my old pass in order to go to PKI last fall. Had I gotten my Maxx Pass beforehand, I would have had to pay admission to get in, since PKD confiscated 2006 passes at the purchase of a 2007.

 

 

OT:

I thought Hurler ran much better this year than it did in 2005. And Rebel Yell already needs retracking pretty bad. If it warps any more, there will be some double-downs on the return trip. Sadly, though, I don't see the PKD woodies getting any major attention any time soon. I hope I am wrong.

PKI's Racer is in a similar state of disrepair. It's shameful. Poor John Allen; his coasters aren't getting the TLC they deserve.
