GMAN962 Posted January 2, 2007 Posted January 2, 2007 First of all, let me say Happy New Year! I went to Knott's with a youth group that my brother and I go to at a church, and they had an event at Knott's where they close the park to the public, then re-open at 7 PM, and stay open until at least 1 AM for us and other churches! We stayed there until 1:10. It was a lot of fun, anyway, here's the TR We first went to McDonald's at 5. Ate there, stayed there until 6, then left to go to Knott's. When we got to the gate, we waited in line to get in. (we had recived our tickets at McDonald's before the bus left.) Then it was to Ghostrider, I was supposed to get back, but I didn't because the line would have been way too long. I got the car before the back car. Anyway, it was not a bad ride. Then we went over to Xcelerator because the line was very long for Silver Bullet. It turns out it was broken down, so we waited outside for maybe 5 minutes. When we were let into the line, we had a very short wait, rode it twice, and decided the line got too long, so we left. Off to Montezooma's. We rode that once, then the line got a bit long, so we left. After that, Silver Bullet's line was still long, so we just decided it was going to be like that the whole day, and rode it there. Rode Bigfoot Rapids in 45 degree weather next! Nobody wanted to ride so we went twice in a row, the first time it didn't get us very wet......the second time did. That was cold! So to dry off, we decided to go on Ghostrider, line was kind of long, but the shared body heat from like everyone in that station together kept us warm-ish. It was freezing on the ride though. As midnight approached, we went over to Xcelerator, the line wasn't that bad. They launched the train probably about ten seconds before midnight, I yell happy New Years and these girls behind us say "It's New Years?!?" I regret saying yes......for ten minutes straight while the fireworks were going off, they were yelling "YEEEEEEEEEAH YEEEEEEEEEAAAAAHHHHHHHH!!!!! RIOT!!! YEAH!!!!!!" Everyone was getting really mad, and eventually I lost it and yelled "YOU HAVEN'T LOST YOUR VOICE YET!?!" They said she'd feel it tomorrow......I didn't want to wait that long. So we rode Xcelerator as the first coaster of 2007. Still a great ride! Except while sitting on the brakes I heard those girls (on the back of our train ) yelling AGAIN!!!! Next it was Silver Bullet, our last ride of the day. The line was much shorter, so we were able to get back to the meeting place before 1:10. Anyway, it was a good, but exhausting day. Hope all of you enjoyed your New Year's day! ~Mike I took a picture of this for future reference, We didn't really use it though.. Ghostrider: Dishing out the pain! Did you ever notice that the sign may supposed to look like a barrel of a gun because the bullet is in between the words? Here we are in the station, operations weren't great, but not bad. They didn't let me bring MY pick axe on the ride...... ZOOOOOOOOM on the track! This is a nice shot, IMO. The best ride in the park, and one of the best rides I've been on! I just think it's a bit short.... Roller Coaster! I really think this ride is underrated, but it's not the best ride in the world. Here's Ghostrider's line......it has a *scary* tunnel!!!! =O This was when we were just walking in anyway, the line was really in the station. And here's the tree...that's pretty much all there is to it..... So here we are at the gates, in line to get in.....Cobra roll= ^_^ Here's what we call the "Fry Train" at McDonald's, where a fry is stuck under the train! So here we are at Knott's! At least....outside....
GMAN962 Posted January 2, 2007 Author Posted January 2, 2007 Next batch: Happy New Year! I leave you with a crazy trippy double-cobra roller picture! Ohhhh... Fireworks.... My favorite shot.
the sound Posted January 2, 2007 Posted January 2, 2007 That's some wicked photos of Fireworks there GMAN. Nice Work!
PhishyBrewer Posted January 2, 2007 Posted January 2, 2007 Is it just me, or is there frost on the track?
GMAN962 Posted January 2, 2007 Author Posted January 2, 2007 ^^, Thanks man! ^I don't think there is, it really wasn't cold. I think it might be because of either not cleaning the track, or shadows from the flash of my camera. Not sure, my camera's not the best night camera anyway... ~Mike
Top Thrill Dragster Posted January 2, 2007 Posted January 2, 2007 Is it just me, or is there frost on the track? Nope that is not frost, it is the track screaming for a paint job!
vjgx Posted January 2, 2007 Posted January 2, 2007 Cool... I was there (obviously...), and that was pretty good fun. It wasn't actually closed to the public... It just worked like Halloween Haunt - you had to buy overpriced tickets specifically for the 7-1 event. It was fairly crowded, but definitely not "Haunt crowded" (good thing, too...)!
bgwfreak Posted January 4, 2007 Posted January 4, 2007 Do you happen to know if they had this tree last year? It looks an awful lot like the one that was at Carowinds last year and since Winterfest was canceled it would make sense if they sold it to them.
vjgx Posted January 4, 2007 Posted January 4, 2007 ^I'm not too sure, but the two trees do look similar... Before last year, I hadn't been to Knott's since 2001...
Sir Clinksalot Posted January 4, 2007 Posted January 4, 2007 Nice TR. Did they have any bands this year?
GMAN962 Posted January 4, 2007 Author Posted January 4, 2007 ^They did, but we focused on the roller coasters mostly, so we don't know about the bands, or events there. ~Mike
bgwfreak Posted January 5, 2007 Posted January 5, 2007 ^I'm not too sure, but the two trees do look similar... Before last year, I hadn't been to Knott's since 2001... The one at Carowinds had the walk through section and all and it looked just like it. I'm sure PKI maybe had one too, they might have bought theirs. Boo for CF canceling Winterfest and yet Knott's gets Christmas.
GMAN962 Posted January 5, 2007 Author Posted January 5, 2007 ^The tree had a walk through section. It wasn't that big, but you could walk through it. I'm sure there's more than one tree out there that's like that. ~Mike
phazan Posted January 5, 2007 Posted January 5, 2007 ^^, Thanks man! ^I don't think there is, it really wasn't cold. I think it might be because of either not cleaning the track, or shadows from the flash of my camera. Not sure, my camera's not the best night camera anyway... ~Mike Well you can't expect night shots of far away subjects to turn out! But anyway, nice TR, I really liked those firework shots!
Jew Posted January 5, 2007 Posted January 5, 2007 That tree and the Christmas parade floats were compliments of one of the paramount parks.
nursemelis374 Posted January 6, 2007 Posted January 6, 2007 This so takes me back! My friends and I used to always go to this event on NYE when we were in college! The best was in 1999 when my friend snuck a ghetto blaster and a ninja costume in and then at midnight busted it out and blasted Prince's "1999". Now that I think about it, I am not really sure why the ninja costume was necessary. Funny to think he is now a married teacher with 3 kids! Anyways, cool trip report and pics. Glad you had fun!
