carolinacaniac Posted December 28, 2006 Posted December 28, 2006 Hey everyone, Merry Late Christmas to all, I just had a quick question about Martin's Fantasy Island. My girlfriend and I are thinking about visiting her mom and three youngest siblings in Buffalo next march or may, and I wanted to see if anyone knew when it was that the place opens for the season? I tried checking out the website, but I found nothing (I guess they are still planning). I am just looking for an approximate time frame, kind of like how Cedar Point opens around early-mid May. I think the Silver Comet looks like a blast!
ParkTrips Posted December 28, 2006 Posted December 28, 2006 They are open weekends starting May 12. Found it by clicking 'operating schedule' at the bottom of the site.
CoasterFanatic Posted December 28, 2006 Posted December 28, 2006 Silver Comet IS a blast. Check out the evening deal. If I remember correctly, it was like $10 and gives you plenty of time to enjoy the park.
Meteornotes Posted December 28, 2006 Posted December 28, 2006 It's a fun park. If you go, be sure to get the tacos! And avoid the shot tower of death, unless you like spinal surgery... dt
niiicolaaah Posted December 28, 2006 Posted December 28, 2006 Yay! I live a half mile from Martin's Fantasy Island, and I used to work there! The park is usually open weekends in May from like 12-7 or something like that. It doesn't move to 6 days a week until mid-June. It's always closed on Mondays. I second the after 5-pm admission idea. There is not a days worth of stuff to do there unless you spend several hours at the water park, or have kids with you and spend time in the kiddy park. You can have plenty of time to ride everything and get several rides on the Silver Comet if you go when the park is open until 8:30.

I stretched out a visit there for a few hours, but it was stretching it big time. Plus, Silver Comet seemed to get a little faster as the day went on.
RCoasterny Posted December 29, 2006 Posted December 29, 2006 Yay! I live a half mile from Martin's Fantasy Island, and I used to work there! So Nicole lives on an island... Which side should I wave to you from the highway that runs through it? I'll be sure to wave when I pass MFI on my way to Toronto for New Year's this Saturday!
Carnage Posted December 29, 2006 Posted December 29, 2006 Just hope that the weather is nice enough for the park to open. Those New York 70 degree overcast days are brutal.

That's good enough for me.
BarryH Posted December 31, 2006 Posted December 31, 2006 Nicole lives on an island, indeed. Her neighbors are Gilligan, Skipper, the Professor, Maryann, Ginger, and the Howells. The savages are on the opposite end of the island.
larrygator Posted December 31, 2006 Posted December 31, 2006 Barry - I live on an island also and you are a DOPE!
Canobie Fan Posted December 31, 2006 Posted December 31, 2006 I <3 Silver Comet... I even got to spend 2 hours looking at it on Firday... yay car broke :S
Tanks4me05 Posted December 31, 2006 Posted December 31, 2006 Yeah, Silver Comet is probably one of the best Wooden Coasters in the state, with its insane laterals on the "Death Turn" nearing the end of the ride, and fun airtime in some places. Although I think the other Comet at the opposite end of the state is better, this one is still pretty darn good. To be honest, Dare Devil wasn't as bad as I thought. It hurt the first time I went on it, but I wasn't prepared for the launch. The second time was virtually painless, and it wasn't that bad. Sure I would definitely like to see an S&S Drop Tower in its place, which is much better in my opinion. However, it is not nearly as bad as other people claim it to be. (Maybe I just can tolerate pain a lot more than other people, seeing as Hercules is my #5 wood coaster, and Mean Streak is #4) Anyways, it’s a pretty fun park. But beware, the Wave Pool is freezing. My hands and feet went close to a light shade of purple, so don't stay in there too long.
