PhishyBrewer Posted December 24, 2006 Posted December 24, 2006 So as some of you might know, I'm finally heading to Japan in March. Yup... right after Solace I'm driving home, packing my bags and catching a flight from San Francisco to Tokyo. I'll be there for about a week. So anyway, every since I booked my airfare last week it's all I can think about. So to help feed my urge Karen, Gavin and I went out for sushi today. Went to Mikuni's (http://www.mikunisushi.com) in Elk Grove. Probably the best sushi place this side of the Pacific. Anyway... on with the photos. ENJOY!!! Got some other little goodies. No strawberry Kit-Kats though. Thanks for reading!!! I fianlly got to try Pocari Sweat. Don has been ranting and raving about it ever since he got back from Japan. It's actually some pretty tasty stuff. I can see myself drinking this a lot while in Japan. They have a lot of sake to choose from. After that we headed to a local Japanese grocery store to find some plum sake and Pocari Sweat. We did some damage. Mmm... strawberry. To cool my mouth off, Gavin and I shared some mochi ice cream. This one was pretty damn hot. Spicy tuna, chili sauce and jalapeneos... order me another beer please. I love this stuff!!! Yeah, we were hungry. Karen and I had some tasty stuff ourself. Gavin is still learning how to use chop sticks properly. Gavin' tasty kid meal. Karen and Gavin being silly. And yes, we brought two cameras. Karen and I always fight about who takes the better pictures. Of course I had to have a beer. Sapporo on draft... YUM! I'm not that big on beans, but these are good. Nice and crisp! I hate when there all soggy. Gavin eating some tasty edamame. Mikuni is actually a pretty hip looking place. It doesn't fit in Elk Grove at all. But... there is no long wait like the one downtown.
Masked_Maverick Posted December 24, 2006 Posted December 24, 2006 Great TR man although I am not a fan of japanese food it was still an interesting read.
dandaman Posted December 24, 2006 Posted December 24, 2006 That's one heckuva kid's meal, especially for 6 bucks! That ice cream looks cool, too. // Also doesn't like Japanese food, or Asian food, for that matter... 'cept plain rice and chicken balls.
Meteornotes Posted December 24, 2006 Posted December 24, 2006 Sushi rules. The best I've ever had is at Tokie's in Foster City, CA. I need to get back out to the bay area to eat there again... dt
PhishyBrewer Posted December 24, 2006 Author Posted December 24, 2006 Incredible = $12...good to know! That roll is to the left. The 1822 is on the right. Unless your just being sarcastic.
MrsPhishy Posted December 24, 2006 Posted December 24, 2006 ^Actually that one is the Michi roll. We didn't get a picture of the Incredible roll, just the incredible me.
SharkTums Posted December 24, 2006 Posted December 24, 2006 Not being sarcastic, I just love it when they name sushi wacky names!!!
ebl Posted December 24, 2006 Posted December 24, 2006 ^ Imagine being married to a Japanese person as I am. Yeah, weird names for sushi---and a lot of other things! Eric
Masked_Maverick Posted December 24, 2006 Posted December 24, 2006 What kind of drink is Pocar Sweat anyway?
Jeezus Juice Posted December 24, 2006 Posted December 24, 2006 ^ It's the juice you get from squeezing a katamari. I believe the Prince bottleing company makes it. It tastes like a hello kitty blew up in your mouth, and kinda like lemon lime gatorade. -Don
PhishyBrewer Posted December 24, 2006 Author Posted December 24, 2006 What kind of drink is Pocar Sweat anyway? When I first bought it I thought it was just some kind of fancy water. But it's actually got like a grapefruit sweetness taste to it. Very tasty. Would prefer over Gatorade.
Masked_Maverick Posted December 24, 2006 Posted December 24, 2006 Thanks it sounds tasty I'll have to keep my eye out for some.
Calvin Posted December 26, 2006 Posted December 26, 2006 Yes! Mochi ice cream! Beats the crap out of Dippin' Dots. [insert lame joke about better rumors from Mochi stands]
