Going Through The Change

Recommended Posts

Well, after more than 20 years, the Indiana legislature has decided that we should start observing Daylight Savings Time again. It doesn't start until next year and the feds get to decide whether we're going to be in the Central time zone or the Eastern time zone. Aren't we lucky??

Maybe I'm a bit old-fashioned, but I seriously don't understand the point of everybody turning their clocks back an hour, only to turn it back some odd months later. Why doesn't everybody everybody just leave their clocks on one designated time for that time zone? I mean, it's not a huge deal to turn my clock back, but I just don't understand the point of it.

Hello,

Here in moving the clock back one hour in the Winter time makes it dark at around 4 p.m during Midwinter. During summer time moving the clock forward one hour makes sun go down during Midsummer at around 9:30 p.m.. That makes Winter a very depressing time of year.

Food for thought,

Dane

I was seriously concerned when I saw this topic...I was worried that this was going to be about Menopause or something!!!

Thankfully it wasn't!

^ LOL!!! I thought the same thing.

I remember back in 1973 they tried year round DST and we went to school in the dark. The sun didn't come up till about 9. (I was in 8th grade at the time.)

Now they're talking about moving the clocks ahead in early March and back in late November to add two months of DST to the year. I've always said that I don't see where they save energy because while you don't use any lights till much later in the evening, you have to turn them on earlier in the morning. But the experts claim that more people are night people, so they'll benefit from the extra daylight and not use as many lights. Whatever.

It's rather interesting to here this. Here in Ithaca, we turn our clocks back and forth for daylight savings time every year, and nobody I know has ever complained. I just assumed everyone in the country did this. Guess I was wrong.

I heard (not sure how true this is) that they are talking about stretching daylight savings time to May in ohio

I saw a report on the news a few weeks ago and I think they're considering changing DST to run March through November instead of the present April through October. That ought to be fun.
