pete4winds
http://cbs4boston.com/local/local_story_290164425.html - Link to video from tonight's 5:00 news broadcast. It's a sad day in central Massachusetts, and indeed all over the coaster enthusiast world. Excavators are on site at Whalom Park, and demolition of the Flyer Comet begins tomorrow, 10-18-06. Sadder, even, than the day I got my refund from the "Buy a Whale" campaign to save Whalom Park a few years back. Yet another old-time traditional park gone. Thoughts? apollo210
NO! I never got to visit there! Why can't we do something at this second!
Ccron10
I think I remember seeing it on a video called Great Old Amusement Parks. Looked pretty cool, it's too bad to see it go.
ECZenith
I loved Whalom Park even though I only visited twice. The Flyer Comet's tunnel is still one of my favorite coaster moments to this day. Very sad, but very inevitable.
jamesdillaman
Sad, sad. Let us mourn the loss of another great park. This has shaped up to be a sad year indeed. -James Dillaman
N'at Man
NO! I never got to visit there! Why can't we do something at this second! Unfortunately there was a save the park campaign several years ago and it failed. It's parks like Whalom that make me appreciate the community efforts at a place like Conneaut Lake which have kept that park alive. Whalom was one of the best classic ride parks around at the time it closed. Tumble Bug, Flyers, Whip and the fun Comet Flyer coaster. It was very much like Southport Pleasureland actually and it's sad they've met the wrecking ball so close together. So many classic rides were lost between the two parks. Alexander Nagel
www.boston.com/news/local/articles/2006/10/19/coasting_to_a_stop_at_whalom_park/ Not that we didn't see this coming for like 5 year, but it's still sad to see. Lucky I got to ride it back in 1999.
verticalzero
A very sad day indeed, I have a tear in my eye writing this. Another great coaster goes to "woodie heaven" Is this coaster better than the one at "Lincon Park"..? What happened to it's "classic" rides like: Tumble Bug, Rock O Planes, Whip ..? Canobie Fan
I only rode Flyer Comet.. But I have seen Lincons Comet a few times.. And by looks I would say it was better... But Flyer Comets tunnel was kickass in its day. As for Whaloms past rides. They didnt have a Rock O Plane.. BUT they did have a Fly O Plane (but not when they closed.. It went out in the mid 90s.) Whaloms Whip is at StoryLand.. Not set up. And the Tumble Bug is sitting in Edaville USAs parking lot. And has been for a few years.
