goleafsgo Posted October 15, 2006 Posted October 15, 2006 Yeah, i read some of these books when i was like 12... any reason for not reading the rest of the series? because they are for 12 year olds...
DATman Posted October 15, 2006 Posted October 15, 2006 Well, The End was an awesome book! It tied up some loose ends left dangling from a bunch of the books, and the only thing i didn't like was : Spoiler The sugar bowl wasn't found and what was inside was not revealed End spoiler. Oh well, I loved the book anyway and I'm happy with the way it ended.
Golfie Posted October 15, 2006 Posted October 15, 2006 I read up to book 4 or 5 when I was in South Dakota... I can't remember exactly how far I got. What I DO remember; however, is that I loved the series. I just can't get myself motivated to start reading Lemony's books again. (If you know me, you know that I am not fond of reading fictional books)
thefitness Posted October 15, 2006 Author Posted October 15, 2006 Yeah, i read some of these books when i was like 12... any reason for not reading the rest of the series? because they are for 12 year olds... O allright
coasterfreak101 Posted October 16, 2006 Posted October 16, 2006 I finished last night! I agree with Steel, he really does a great job of tying up lose ends. I definately thought that the last word was extremely weird, lol! That one really answered a question I've been having since the beginning!
steel Posted October 17, 2006 Posted October 17, 2006 Yeah, i read some of these books when i was like 12... any reason for not reading the rest of the series? because they are for 12 year olds... Well, yeah, except that they aren't made for 12-year-olds. They're made for whoever wants to read them. Just like every other book. Coasterfreak101 - You thought it was weird? SPOILER Beatrice was the name of the Baudelaire's parents. We didn't know that until now. It was also the name of Kit Snicket's daughter, of course, and the name of Lemony Snicket's love. It was just a matter of figuring out who she was. END SPOILER
okinawaboy11 Posted October 17, 2006 Posted October 17, 2006 I got hooked to Harry Potter and not SOUE.
coasterfreak101 Posted October 17, 2006 Posted October 17, 2006 I said "weird" because I couldn't think of a better word. What I meant by it was "I didn't see that one coming!" And no, they're not made for just 12 year olds. Anyone can read them, I know a whole lot of kids who read them (alll between 13-15 years old and in High School).
steel Posted October 18, 2006 Posted October 18, 2006 Okinawaboy11 - I can understand that. I would definately say that SUE pales in comaparison to Potter. In fact, I was so tired of the style of writing in SUE that I stopped caring much about the plot.
DATman Posted October 18, 2006 Posted October 18, 2006 ^^^^ Spolier Lemony was in love with the Baudelaire's mother. What happened to the damn sugar bowl??! I loved the metaphor of the question mark. End spoiler
Luxo Posted October 18, 2006 Posted October 18, 2006 I read to book four. I thought the story was cute and unique for a children's series, but I became annoyed because they had to explain a word in every other sentence.
masterofthematrix91 Posted October 18, 2006 Posted October 18, 2006 DUDE I AM SO WRAPPED UP IN THE LAST BOOK. I HAVE READ 255 PAGES TODAY. THIS BOOK IS SOO GOOD. I THINK THE MOVIE WAS SOMEWHAT GOOD BUT I WISH THEY KEPT TO THE BOOK. I HEAR A SEQUEL IS ON THE WAY. masterofthematrix91
steel Posted October 18, 2006 Posted October 18, 2006 WHY ARE YOU TYPING IN ALL CAPS? I really hope there isn't a sequel coming. Besides, it would be too hard to do without changing what they had in the original for two big reasons. First, at the end of the movie, they said the Baudelaires had finally done something lucky. I can hardly imagine the Lucky Smells Lumber Mill qualifying as lucky. Second, the plot in Miserable Mill is centered around Klaus's glasses, yet the director was dumb enough to not give Klaus glasses. And the acting is awful apart from Violet.
DATman Posted October 18, 2006 Posted October 18, 2006 ^Not to mention the movie gives a who to the "who burned the house?" question. Ah well. I still loved the movie visually. Damn those sets were perfect. Too bad Jim Carrey sucked as Olaf.
steel Posted October 19, 2006 Posted October 19, 2006 SPOILER ^Didn't Olaf burn the house in order to get the Baudelaire fortune? END SPOILER
thefitness Posted October 19, 2006 Author Posted October 19, 2006 I just finished and I LOVED it! SPOILERS BELOW I can believe Beatrice was Mrs. Baudalaire! And no I dont think Count Olaf set fire to thier house....it was kinda sad when he died...what was his connection with Kit?
steel Posted October 19, 2006 Posted October 19, 2006 SPOILER ^I thought it said that Olaf killed the Baudelaire parents at one point.
Blazen_AZN Posted October 20, 2006 Posted October 20, 2006 I really loved the book, but now it just hit me... ALOT of things were left unasnwered. The Sugar Bowl, if their parents are alive... I hope we might see one more book, maybe like a spinoff, that explains it all. Also, can sombody explain to me who Lenomy Snicket is? He's not the father.... right?
steel Posted October 20, 2006 Posted October 20, 2006 ^Lemony couldn't have been their father. Remember they were trying to figure out why on earth Violet would have been named Lemony? They had never heard that name before. Lemony was a family friend who loved the Baudelaire's mother, IMO.
thefitness Posted October 20, 2006 Author Posted October 20, 2006 I agree^ unless thier father was still alive and changed his identity?!?!
GMAN962 Posted November 8, 2006 Posted November 8, 2006 Those books were great. They should do a follow-up of their lives after leaving the island....oh well! ~Mike
thefitness Posted November 8, 2006 Author Posted November 8, 2006 ehh I don't know about a follow up,cause the series is over. But I was thinking maybe a prequel and explain everything about the parents before they had Violet Klaus and Sunny.
