Hercules Posted October 11, 2006 Posted October 11, 2006 Corey Lidle has been identified as one of the bodies found in this small plane crash in Manhattan today. It is not believe to be an act of terrorism. http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/15223650/?GT1=8618 NEW YORK - A small plane owned by New York Yankees pitcher Cory Lidle crashed into a 50-story condominium tower Wednesday on Manhattan’s Upper East Side, raining flaming debris onto the sidewalks below and rattling New Yorkers’ nerves five years after the Sept. 11 attack. Local affiliate WNBC reported four people had been killed. Law enforcement officials said a member of the New York Yankees’ organization was aboard the plane. The Associated Press and NBC News identified that person as Lidle. Lidel's passport was reportedly found on the street below the crash site. The FBI and the Homeland Security Department said there was no evidence it was a terrorist attack. “The initial indication is that there is a terrible accident,” Homeland Security spokesman Russ Knocke said. Nevertheless, fighter jets were sent aloft over U.S. cities as a precaution, the Pentagon said. The twin-engine plane came through a hazy, cloudy sky and hit the 20th floor of The Belaire — a red-brick tower overlooking the East River, about five miles from the World Trade Center — with a loud bang, touching off a raging fire that cast a pillar of black smoke over the city and sent flames shooting from four windows on two adjoining floors. Firefighters shot streams of water at the flames from the floors below and put the blaze out in less than an hour. Large crowds gathered in the street in the largely wealthy New York neighborhood, with many people in tears and some trying to reach loved ones by cell phone. “I was worried the building would explode, so I got out of there fast,” said Lori Claymont, who fled an adjoining building in sweatpants.
zburns999 Posted October 12, 2006 Posted October 12, 2006 This is so surreal. Just the other day, a friend and I were discussing what the Yanks would do with Lidle during the off-season. One thing I remember him saying, maybe not word for word, but a general idea, was "I just hope he's gone somehow by next year." Be careful what you wish for. R.I.P Cory Lidle
PKI Jizzman Posted October 12, 2006 Posted October 12, 2006 And he was a former Reds pitcher! D: What is this world coming to?
tacoking Posted October 12, 2006 Posted October 12, 2006 I am shocked. Always hate when anything like this happens, but being a huge baseball fan makes it worse. What does him having to be a former Reds pitcher have anything to do with this?
Satoshi Posted October 12, 2006 Posted October 12, 2006 me got shocked yankees pitcher got killed in a plane crash! just brought me back to a day when terrorism happened in 2001 and made me so sad i can't stand it! yankees fans would get lots of tears with it..... sorry for one pitcher's loss.....
ECZenith Posted October 12, 2006 Posted October 12, 2006 It was very odd seeing the images of the burning building on TV yesterday and even stranger to hear it was a Yankees pitcher. Must have just been a horrible accident.
verticalzero Posted October 12, 2006 Posted October 12, 2006 Yes it is sad when someone does this, maybe he had enough of "life"
weeow Posted October 12, 2006 Posted October 12, 2006 Witnesses say that the plane was wobbling around. A possible sign of a plane in distress. I doubt if it was suicide. Some idiot yesterday said it was funny that he died. I wanted to punch him so badly. My heart goes out to his family.
