Professional Photos of WBMW at night

Hi Guys.

 

Apart from running a website I also work as a photographer for WBMW and love my job.

Anyway WBMW held there 1st public event in many years at night last friday and myself and my team leader at work hit the streets with our SLR camera's and are so pleased with the finished result.

 

The update features the 20 best photos.

why are they never open at night??, seems like they had adequate lighting for staying open past dusk.

When you take night pictures the shutter stays open for alot longer to allow as much light in as possible. some cameras you can set up to have the shutter open for a long time. If the object moves it becomes blurred, (it kinda like burns every movement an object makes into the film/file.

 

I took a night picture with Italian Job and it came out like this. the shutter stayed open the whole time you see the headlight streak, you can kinda notice the people are a little blurry cause they moved a little.

The slow shutter speed show superman going around the whole track which looks very cool imo also I lkie how people look like ghost on shutter speed.

lol lol I kinda already knew that but what I should have said was why would someone want to use that effect but I guess it depends on what look they are going for. I have used it before but not for periods of time where you cant make out anything but thats just me...

alot of it had to also do with distance and lighting of subject.

 

This photo had really good lighting on mainst and the top hat so you get the nice yellow.

 

Where this photo was about 60metres away with less lighting but I always wanted to see the train going over all 3 main elements at the same time.

 

Where this last shot of the head chopping tunnel could only be done like this as there is a timing issue and its dark, I had the other photographer flash his flash at the track as I took the photo to show the train up a bit more.

So many GREAT HDR moments you could have had...look into it. Its not very hard to do, even without the use of a HDR program. Though, a few do exist for not much.

 

Great pictures. Would love to see them redone with HDR.

I bought a Nikon D50 back in March and love taking it to Theme Parks at night with a tripod. To get all these great blur night shots you NEED a tripod. It's impossible to keep your hand perfectly still for any length of time (especially if you're talking 30 second shutter speed) and your pictures will come out horribly if you don't use one.

 

I still have alot to learn regarding lighting and such, but keep an eye out for my PCW FrightFest photos that will show up some time in October.

Isn't the place ever open after 5 during peak season? Or do you guys not get "peak" seasons in Austrailia?

I've managed to get a lot of good shots at night stting the camera on something like a trashcan or a fence in because I don't have a tripod, that was a good tip from Rabid One. You might already know that but just in case you didn't.

We do have peak seasons but they don't have the parks open at night for some reason, it is a real novelty for the parks on the Gold Coast to be open at night. It might have something to do with the neighbours but I don't know for sure.

^ I've done that before, and you're right it does work nicely too. I just meant that a tripod allows you to be flexible with where you put your camera and you aren't forced to find somewhere to sit your camera.

 

Then again last year PCW security wouldn't allow me to bring my tripod into FearFest. Claimed it could be used as a weapon. That security guard was real close to experiencing the weapon end of a tripod.

Yeah, it is a bit of a hassle, Rabid One was asking me last night if they had lockers outside the parks at Universal Orlando in case he can't take his tripod into the park when he is there.
