JimmyBo Posted September 19, 2006 Posted September 19, 2006 This past weekend my buddy Ryan "Silent K", Kristie and I all traveled to Six Flags Marine World and toured downtown San Francisco. The trip started off with a little bad news...Ryan King wasn't going to make it. Well that's not really the bad news, that was the good news. The bad news was that I-5 was shut down due to a fire... Yeah, pretty intense...so "Silent K" and I had to take a 2 hr detour but at least we got to see some sites, and plenty of desert Hello Scandia Screamer, I saw you yesterday but we have more important places to go this weekend Here's just a few of the 5 million wind mills that were out in the middle of no where between Barstow and Bakersfield After picking Kristie up in FresNO we finally headed to our 5 star hotel Here it is...complete with air matress, wood floor, and one bathroom Here is our wonderful hostess Megan who hates pictures being taken of her (can't you tell?) The next morning we headed off to Six Flags Marine World (after trying to wake Ryan up for 2 hrs...lazy bum) Here it is, the soon-to-be best Six Flags park in California A view from the parking lot. This is definitely a parking lot park since half the rides rest on the parking lot The gang...me, Kristie, and Ryan "Silent K" Hey look, everyone's getting married and they all are wearing tuxedos Dont worry kids, this is a baby seal sucking the milk out of his momma The park was pretty dead all day but we decided to hit the roller coasters up first, just in case it got busy in the afternoon. First up was V2, Vertical Velocity Yeah, I'd say it's pretty vertical Except for the front spike. I actually liked this front spike better cuz you are weightless for a lot longer. Plus, if you sit in the front, you haul going through the spike backwards Next was Meow...I mean ROAR Going up zee lift hill It's not the best GCI woody but the first two drops are just insane, still a great ride Here's a palm tree, with Meow in the background Second drop goodness Six Flags Marine World had many things to offer other than just rides. It had tons of animals... Like crazy looking minature monkeys... ...baby foxes that freak out when you take a picture of them... ...animals that suck your blood... ...long, slimey snakes... ...and insects that still scare that poop outta me. This is the closest I got to the spider glass because the Tarantula jumped at Ryan as he was looking through the glass. AAHHH!!!! After playing around with some of the animals we decided to go back and ride some more rides This is Hammerhead Ryan is still sleepy after sleeping in 2 hrs past the alarm While Kristie and I are ready to ride Ever wonder what happens when you go upside down? Here you go Ryan is still asleep After the Hammerhead we were hungry because that ride pretty much scared the poop out of all of us so we needed a refill So I had some world class chicken from the barn across the lake This is for all those croc hunter lovers out there...we will miss you Steve Irwin Crickey! It's a Tazmanian Devil...Grrrrrrr Next was Kong. Why? I still dont know...my ears are still bleeding And let the ear bleeding start After we all went to the First Aid station after riding Kong, it shut down for the rest of the day...bummer it didnt shut down before we rode it. Next up was Cobra, a really loud but fun family coaster See? Doesn't it look fun? Hey, we're having fun The kid in the front with his hands up is having fun For those of you that dont know, this is a Tiger. It's a really big cat He was hungry so he ate off Kristie's hand Notice the sign...you may get wet or sprayed. What's sprayed you ask? It's when the Tiger turns his butt towards the crowd and pisses on us. Yeah, some little girl got it all over her. Pretty entertaining but I bet she hated the smell of it the entire day. So we heard that the shows in the park were pretty good. I'd have to say they lived up to the hype. I really liked the dolphin show so we decided to check out the Sea Lion show Here's one of the actors of the show It was getting late so both Ryan and Kristie passed out before the show started But then we decided to buy Kristie cotton candy and after she finished the whole thing in 10 seconds (yes 10 seconds) we regretted our decision Oh look, a hairy, wet rodent Now I save the best coaster in the park for last. Medusa Dont be hatin I get to ride the best floorless parking lot coaster in Vallejo Seriously though, Medusa is a crazy ride and we all enjoyed it very much Even if it was in the parking lot The only downside of the park was that there was an evil hot russian lady that wouldn't let Kristie and me on the kiddie coaster. We even tried to kidnap a kid but it did not work Damn you evil hot russian lady for being so evil and hot So after a long day at Marine World we decided to travel to downtown San Fran. It was nothing like I remembered it when I went way back when I was 8. The night life was very cool and the sunset over looking the Golden Gate was awesome. Aint it purty Golden Gate Kristie pointing to Alcatraz Downtown at night One last pic of the sunset, Kristie and I AFter we hit up some grub at Pier 39 we finally headed back to our 5 star hotel The Bay Bridge The next day we were releaved that the fire wasn't near the I-5 so we were able to take it down and cut off 2 hrs out of our 8 hrs drive...SCORE! Although the fire was still blazing near Six FLags Magic Mountain. All in all it was an awesome trip and Six FLags Marine World is a great park. Hope you enjoyed the report
Rollerholden Posted September 20, 2006 Posted September 20, 2006 Nice TR! Kong isn't that bad, I really like it. Good to know Medusa is still running awesome. I haven't been since last October, but I'll be going a couple of times for Fright Fest!
TheStig Posted September 20, 2006 Posted September 20, 2006 Ha she picked up rabies on the trip! Atleast it wasnt anything worse... Colin C
Double0Kevin Posted September 20, 2006 Posted September 20, 2006 She's actually a Hot Evil Moldalvian Girl... not Russian
larrygator Posted September 20, 2006 Posted September 20, 2006 Kristie looks pissed in every picture, except when you fed her the cotton candy, what's up with that. Was she that upset that Ryan King was not there to pound her?
Ryan King Posted September 20, 2006 Posted September 20, 2006 Kristie looks pissed in every picture, except when you fed her the cotton candy, what's up with that. Was she that upset that Ryan King was not there to pound her? Dude Larry, your awesome. Nah I have reason to believe that probablly is the real reason...
vjgx Posted September 20, 2006 Posted September 20, 2006 ^Ryan, I know this is off-topic, but I saw someone at school today. They stole your shirt. Someone should go beat up that punk! Anyway, nice Photo TR!
gisco Posted September 20, 2006 Posted September 20, 2006 Good pics except for the one with the bunny.
SharkTums Posted September 21, 2006 Posted September 21, 2006 ^And Dad comes in with the thread killer! Sure you want to send her to Spain on her own?
speedracer Posted September 21, 2006 Posted September 21, 2006 Great TR, glad to hear ya'll had a good time, SF is definitely a beautiful scenic city, and SFMW is indeed a great park. Not the best coaster park, but does offer a little something different for everyone to enjoy (ya for the spraying tiger!!! One show that NEVER gets old!!!). I'm hoping with the name change to SFDK will be the long rumoured placemaking project of the entire front area to move the front gate closer to the parking lot, and finally get rid of and landscape all that old parking lot asphalt in the front. Been rumoured for a few years now, will definitely help improve the look and first impression of the park.
Shockwave Posted September 21, 2006 Posted September 21, 2006 Great photos Jimmy. Looks like you all had a great day, the Golden Gate bridge looks stunning!
Sean Menefee Posted September 21, 2006 Posted September 21, 2006 I'm hoping with the name change to SFDK will be the long rumoured placemaking project of the entire front area to move the front gate closer to the parking lot, and finally get rid of and landscape all that old parking lot asphalt in the front. Been rumoured for a few years now, will definitely help improve the look and first impression of the park. I keep hearing were moving close to this becoming a reality in the next few years. The park is also going to receive a TON of love, care, new paths, new branding, and paint this off-season from what I've gathered. It's going to be a bit strange calling it Discovery Kingdom but the name is really starting to grow on me, (not to mention it fits the park entertainment package better.) Glad to see you had a great visit and thanks for the update.
