coasterboy76
unfortunatly, ours was removed because one of the cars fell from the top tower back in July of 78--the drop killed 3 people and injured one other.
deguy123
^ that's what I have always worried about on these rides but I still go on them at Gadv.

BeemerBoy
unfortunatly, ours was removed because one of the cars fell from the top tower back in July of 78--the drop killed 3 people and injured one other. Â And if I remember correctly, WDW's quit operating after a CM fell to his death from one. He was sweeping the station in Fantasyland and was forced to grab onto the bucket as it was leaving the station. He held on until somewhere near the first post, then sadly fell. Â I doubt that was the only reason they stopped operating (high maintenence, stopages in high winds and lightning storms), but it probably was the straw that broke the camel's back. I always had a love/hate thing with skyrides. They offer great views, but always made me uneasy at the same time. Even so, I still wish more parks had them. coasterboy76
I remember as a kid riding that back and forth across the park, it made such a difference getting from one side of the park to the other. was always uneasy on it when ever it would go across a tower, the car would kind of rattle, and shake as the wheels made contact. Â I really don't think I would ride one now, I mean think about it a car thats holding on to a cable by a small set of wheels....not to comforting to think about..... Spookbaby
Wow, with the exception of Rail Blazer some of their old rides looked pretty cool. Sadly, some look cooler then some of the rides that they have there today. I am a dork and absolutely love the River King Mine Train that there right now, I never knew that there was even a second (and apparantly better) track! The dolphin show is about the only thing I actually remember from your photos and I'm pretty sure I only remember it because I was picked out of the crowd to feed that dolphins. I wish I remembered the Injun Joe ride but the last thing that I can recall being in the building was "Castaway Kids." Man, I miss that ride. Â Awesome pictures though! Thanks! coasterboy76
yeah we had some cool rides then, the hanibarrel ride (drunken barrel ride) was fun, The SkyWay ws really cool too, and it came in handy for getting from one side of the park to the other. Â The River King Mine Train is still fun, I try to ride it every time I go to the park. I remember the old track like it was yesterday, I liked it alot because it left the station, then entered the storage building for the other trains, I remeber this part because it was always customary to yell when you went through the storage station. when I came across the folder the other day that held these photos, I tried remembering the ride on the Mine train as it compared to the present one by trying to put the ride togetether with the pictures. I was able to see a video of the coaster in action today, at it was weird seeing the ride. once I saw the track section after the second lift hill it all came back to me. disneyfan1313
These retro photos are great! It is amazing to see how these parks have changed since the 70's and 80's before the roller-coaster race started.
