timetrial3141592 Posted April 18, 2005 Posted April 18, 2005 I have a question. On Intamin hypercoaster trains, there are two circular holes in the nose. Is there any purpose to these? Al "They can't be just for show" Snitzer
nannerdw Posted April 18, 2005 Posted April 18, 2005 This may just be a glitch in Nolimits, but I think it is like this: The axle has pieces that stick up right above each wheel. The axle can pivot, and it has shock absorbers attatched to it. On some sharply banked turns, the part that sticks up from the axle has to go through that hole. Here is an example from Nolimits.
pvcoasterguy Posted April 18, 2005 Posted April 18, 2005 You can kind of see something sticking up in this real life picture of Superman at SFDL. http://rcdb.com/ig541.htm?picture=2 EDIT: Forgot link. 8)
Wes Posted April 18, 2005 Posted April 18, 2005 How else are ACErs supposed to live out their sexual fantasies? wes (there's two holes for gangbangs)
stew560 Posted April 18, 2005 Posted April 18, 2005 When the train is full of ACE'rs the shocks are compressed to the max and then they come through those holes...
kenshinmac Posted April 19, 2005 Posted April 19, 2005 They're speed holes... They make the train go faster... I wonder how many people will know the reference.
SharkTums Posted April 19, 2005 Posted April 19, 2005 ^Simpsons right?? Elissa "trying to remember the episode!" Alvey
DeliriumTrigger Posted April 19, 2005 Posted April 19, 2005 It was the episode when Homer went to Clown College. He was demanding a free car since he was Krusty, while Anthony "Fat Tony" D'Amico (also known as William Williams, also known as Marion), Joey, Legs, and Louie were shooting at "Krusty" since he owed them money.
timetrial3141592 Posted April 19, 2005 Author Posted April 19, 2005 Speed holes? I dunno. I think that Intamin put them there for mechanics to get at the wheels.
SixFlagsJunkie Posted April 30, 2005 Posted April 30, 2005 This may just be a glitch in Nolimits, but I think it is like this: The axle has pieces that stick up right above each wheel. The axle can pivot, and it has shock absorbers attatched to it. On some sharply banked turns, the part that sticks up from the axle has to go through that hole. Here is an example from Nolimits. Makes since, when you look at the dragster trains they have the axle pieces that stick up above each wheel, same thing just uncovered. Also when I look at the pics of the trains with "nostrils" the nose is alot more sloped than that of arrow or vekoma trains which probably do the same thing, you just don't see it because the nose is sloped alot less allowing more room for the axle to pivot. Look at Cal Screamin's trains the nose is more rounded so there is no need for holes, the axle can pivot underneath.
