downunder Posted July 20, 2006 Posted July 20, 2006 I was thinking of heading to NYC late next month and I was wondering what El Toro has been like reliability wise. From what I have seen on the boards it doesn't seem to open when the park does, but has there been many incidences of ET being down for whole days?
sfne2005 Posted July 20, 2006 Posted July 20, 2006 I can only speak about what I saw on the only day I was there (and only at the park for a few hours). After opening arounf 11am, it broke down after a couple of minutes. The train got stuck at the bottom of the lift and was closed for an hour. It opened again that day.
ECZenith Posted July 20, 2006 Posted July 20, 2006 I was at the park today and the ride did not open until 1:00 pm. When it did open, it ran reliably all day and the line never reached longer than 30 minutes. I would say it's worth the risk. I believe the ride was down 2 seperate days at the beginning of the season all day, but I would hope these issues have been worked out. Out of 250+ coasters El Toro is my #2 only behind Superman Ride Of Steel. Get over to the states and ride it!
downunder Posted July 20, 2006 Author Posted July 20, 2006 If I get over I was going to hit SFNE on Monday Aug 28, and get a six flags season pass, then go to GAdv the next and keep going back until I get to ride El Toro, should be back in LA on the Friday and do SFMM.
ECZenith Posted July 20, 2006 Posted July 20, 2006 SFNE should be good on a Monday, I go about twice a month on a weekday and the lines move pretty fast. I wouldn't worry about needing multiple days for El Toro to be running, but 2 days during the week should definately be enough to see the whole park. Today, Wednesday, it took me an hour and 45 minutes to get on Kingda Ka and I got there at opening. It went down 3 times while I waited in line, than El Toro finally opened and I got two rides waited half an hour each. Unfortunately, Superman, Nitro, and Batman all had hour plus waits .I reccomend you get a qbot to avoid the potentially busy summer crowd. I regretted not getting one today as I was only able to do the two big Intamins... but I mean, they were worth it.
GAcoaster Posted July 20, 2006 Posted July 20, 2006 El Toro has been having issues but so far has only been down for an entire day once since it opened. It tends to have lift hill problems periodically, but nothing that keeps it closed for very long.
Rider117 Posted July 20, 2006 Posted July 20, 2006 It has been, it runs 1 train rarely if there is a problem with the other one.
ECZenith Posted July 20, 2006 Posted July 20, 2006 The reason it's always seen stopped on the lift is because they are testing the block sections. They said it usually takes a couple of hours for the maintenance team to decide it's ready to roll. I don' t think they've had any problems with the lift itself.
Jeezus Juice Posted July 23, 2006 Posted July 23, 2006 Is SFGAdv doing the season passholder ERT fridays this year? It was definately pretty awesome last year. Oh, and beware if you go to the park on August 1st 'cause I might just jump out of a bush and scare you when you least expect it! -Don
Bubba Z Posted July 23, 2006 Posted July 23, 2006 NO ERT this year, and I'll make sure I walk pass the bushes slowly so I won't get scared!
Jeezus Juice Posted July 23, 2006 Posted July 23, 2006 ^ Just be ultra cautious if you start seeing Steak and Shake food wrappers on the ground. That means I'm close!
downunder Posted July 24, 2006 Author Posted July 24, 2006 Well, I'll be in NYC on Sat night 26th Aug, so El Toro better bloody be open sometime before I leave on Thursday, or I may trun into Clark Griswold in Vacation and start taking hostages. Looking forward to some more Ride of Steel loving at SFNE too
