Jon Sabo Posted July 14, 2006 Posted July 14, 2006 Actually I would'nt blame Arrow or BGE management, I would blame the host that day, Dana Carvey. He referred DF as "Satan"....damn that church lady~! Another classic line (sorry for not giving proper credit, although I believe it was also quoted by Mr. Carvey). "Only a company that its main focus is brewing beer would come up with a ride like this!" One of the funniest people I ever met. Other classics: Kumba-Michael Richards (remember when he 'fell' between the trains on opening day?) Kumba-Drew Carey "Wow that thing is bitchn'! It has more curves than my stomach" BBW-Vincent Price (the man's voice alone gave me chills!)
cfc Posted July 14, 2006 Posted July 14, 2006 ^^I think the only reason it lasted as long as it did was because a bald eagle had nested on top of the lifthill (couldn't be touched then--federal law). ^Vincent Price is an old fave of mine, too--love those Roger Corman Poe flicks.
Jon Sabo Posted July 14, 2006 Posted July 14, 2006 Richard Kiley would make an awesome voice-over for the next BGE ride/commercial. He was the original host of Mutual of Omaha's Animal Kingdom. I remember watching that show with my grandfather when I was a kid. His voice just as classic as Vincent Price had. I believe he also had a cameo (voice) in JP-1 & 2 movies.
okinawaboy11 Posted July 14, 2006 Posted July 14, 2006 So does SBNO stand for Smelted Beyond No Existance? What comes after no existance? I think Drachen Fire went to coaster heaven. It should have gone to Coaster Hell
awclark Posted July 14, 2006 Posted July 14, 2006 You can still, I beleive, take pictures of the station from the train ride. It's the only memory that's left and the only peice of evidence that the ride was there, besides the huge open feild it sits on.
bgwfreak Posted July 14, 2006 Posted July 14, 2006 ^ I think the storage barn for the trains is still there as well.
mike541x Posted July 14, 2006 Posted July 14, 2006 Yeah I went there last year and took a video of what was left of it. I remember the station and the building for the trains still there. This was during October season so it was used for the Sleepless Hollow attraction.
peteb Posted July 14, 2006 Posted July 14, 2006 The train ride is the best way to see the former DF grounds; it runs right next to it. DF was an impressive looking ride and not nearly as bad as people will have you believe. There are rougher rides still in operation. This one could have been fixed, but there must have been a huge falling out with Arrow that prevented this from ever happening.
bgwfreak Posted July 14, 2006 Posted July 14, 2006 There were rumors of a lawsuit. I actually got to see one of the designers talk about the ride at Carowinds 2 years ago (he works for Carowinds now). For some reason I can't recall what he said happened, but I think he confirmed that there was a lawsuit envolved. Someone from Charlotte will correct me if I'm wrong.
