Best Way To View SBNO Drachen Fire @ BGW(aka BGE)

Recommended Posts

I'm headed to BGW(aka BGE) this coming Saturday and I was wondering: What is the best way to view/take photos of Drachen Fire. I've heard that if you take the train, you can see it that way. Any other ideas?

The best way to view Drachen Fire is in IMAX 3D, nothing better!

Or you can use your imagination and pretend its still at the park. Just make believe, the station and storage shed is still there. You can also try to get blitzed off the AB beer and then ride the train, that may help. Just ask the pink elephant, he'll point you in the right direction.

Let's see . . .

Close your eyes, click your heels together three times, then box your ears repeatedly with a crow bar in either hand for the true Drachenfire experience.

Well, you might be able to walk through the loading station during Howl-o-Scream (when its Sleepless Hollow Manor).

I think Drachen Fire went to coaster heaven.

LOL! I've heard it was so rough! It would have made it to coaster hell insted!

That's where it sent its riders.

Oh NO! Flashbacks.

I click my heels 3 times, as Chuck requested, I find myself in that hotter-than-hell maintenance area green-tagging one of the trains for the next operational day.

Or, perhaps the good ole jolly walk up the lift may lead me to think if those heaters were still installed, I could make my dinner by roasting marshmellows and some hot dogs (don't even ask why we did that).

Then again, a stroll along the storage rack to replace a rollback dog makes for a bit***n day! Ahh, the memories and smell of molybdenum disulfide on the shelf-awaiting my tender care in lubing the axles...RIP-DF. I will surely miss you.

(Clicks heels 3 more times)...what was the topic about?

To currently see Drachen Fire, go take the brewery tour and take a good hard look at the kegs.

As one who had the "pleasure" of riding Drachen Fire, I say farewell and good riddance. I don’t get the mysticism and love for Drachen Fire. Its experience, in my memory, was a lot like other Arrow loopers, which means a good amount of pain and this action:

^ I think the reason Drachen Fire has obtained such a cult following is mainly because of how unique it was. The cutback and wraparound corkscrew in the middle of the first drop are still one-of-a-kind inversions, and the cobra roll was kind of a rarity on Arrow loopers.

I think it was one of the best looping coaster designs ever, at least for a straightforward sitdown looper. It's a design I really wish would be reincarnated someday, by a company who can make it a better riding experience (whether it be B&M, Intamin, or whoever).

I always thought of that wraparound corkscrew as a 'CorkWinder' element- kinda looks like it if you think about it.

I miss laying down and looking up through the helix 'viewing area' on a warm summer evening- a very unique way to look at it.

I miss the black and blue marks left on my left collarbone from the restraints if I didn't position myself correctly (Feet into the wheel hub, body turned to the right and pushed up against the seat back.

I miss the smell of the freshly trashed and nauseated frat boys getting off the ride and heaving just outside the exit gate.

Oh, those were the days....

GLOW IN THE DARK ARROW TRAINS!

BEST TRAINS EVER!!

I think the reason Drachenfire got this cult following is the fact that the internet was really coming into it's own about the time Drachenfire started it's SBNO session.

Then all these people that never rode it were like IF ONLY I HAD RIDDEN THIS AWESOME COASTER!!!

While I'll admit Drachenfire will probably be in my top 5 arrow loopers of all time, it certainly doesn't deserve all the aclaim it's gotten over the years.

It was rough, but what arrow looper isn't (that has corkscrews). I mean come on, it's an arrow.

^ I know. The arrogance of asking a simple question to the coaster community.

I feel bad for the guy, I hope this has't scared him off.

This is one of the things I hate about the coaster community. Everybody assumes that everyone else in the world knows everything about coasters and heaven forbid if you ask a question that's already been asked before. Oh no! You are the biggest idiot in the world!

Very true. Looking back there is some times that I wish some of the elements were used elsewhere, but the only lasting memory for me about Drachen Fire is the ice cream style headache I had afterwards.

I also feel somewhat bad, I didn't mean to be mean about it, just put it in a humorous context. I would say, Drachen Fire kegs would be something very interesting. I know of a few people around here who'd definitely spring for that.

^ Funny thing is that after I learned to hold my head back during the ride and hold my head to one side or the other depending on what inversion I was going into... the ride wasn't half bad.

I don't ride something I hate and I used to ride this a lot when it was still there.

But I know the design was poor and as a result beat up a lot of people. But in their defense they did always say "keep your head back against the headrest".

So much hostility in the air!! Just joking!! I appreciate all the info in regards to DF. I've should have known that they torn it down. Too bad though. I would have liked to say that I did it. Even though it sounds like it was a painful ride.

And to let everyone know, I've been reading TPR for 3+ years, but only post once in a while. I'll try and post more. Look for a photo TR (or just plain TR) sometime next week. And since I'm stationed in Germany for the USAF!!!, I'll do some posting about the parks there as well.
