Hersheypark (HP) Discussion Thread

Someone at HP has been playing RCT a bit too much. It looks so odd, like when you wanted to have separate "drop" rides at your starter park so you lined-up three of those of different heights and expected guests not to notice they are indeed the same ride experience. I am intrigued by how they are going to run them (cycle, different queues, grouping, etc.) -

After recent incidents it looks like park management have seen that the project fell short and they are slowly improving it. The first of many changes is the upgrade of the Intamin launcher with a 270º twist, just like its American cousins... For the updated version of the layout PA have had to temporarily remove two of the Ferrari shields from the structure. They are expected to be put up again once testing has resumed. Man, were they quick! Let's see those trains rolling again testing! Source: CAPTE.org If you fell for it, it's because today is Spain's equivalent of April's fool day! -

Wow, I had no idea Kieppi was leaving! So bummed to read that as it was quite an experience; maybe too intense for my taste but a rare model. What are they going to install in its place? -

Seatbelts often depend on the ride remember, like Diamondback has seatbelts but Shambhala doesn't. I don't see seatbelts coming though based on that as if possible by default PortAventura don't add seatbelts. Unless forced by the manufacturer PortAventura has a tradition of not adding unnecessary seatbelts. In fact, when Dragon Khan opened, it didn't have any belts, just the OTSR. And Cedar Fair having belts to their hypercoasters was a corporate decision; B&M manufactures the trains without them, it's CF that wants them implemented... -

I am glad to see trains being installed on the transfer track. I have a question for those who have ridden Taron: do these trains feature seatbelts? -

Thanks for the answers. I will try to ride Superman around 2pm then. As for Batwing, it's the coaster I am most looking forward to riding since I have a soft spot for flyers... And the Flying Dutchman model has always intrigued me (it'll be my first one). Hopefully, it'll deliver... I am dreading the moment I have to ride Mind Eraser... -

Why between 2-5 pm? Do they remove VR between those hours on Superman just like SFNE has a certain schedule for Superman VR? To be honest, I would like to be out of the park by 4.30 pm at the latest... -

Hi, everyone! I am doing a road trip visiting some parks from the East coast and the first one will be SFA on August 4th. I will be landing at BWI at about 10am, so I want to hit SFA (more like a credit run) and then head up north to ride some coasters at Hersheypark at night. What should I do to have all creds in the shortest time? (besides buying Flashpass) Any specific order? Any other highlights not to miss at the park? Do the rides have SRL? Also, does anybody know if Roar is going to be closed for good or just maintenance? Thank you in advance! If anyone will be at the park that day, send me a PM and we can go on some coasters at SFA! -
Thanks for the tips, guys! I am glad that they are limiting the VR experience to some horus of operations so tha at least all those people that just want to experience the coaster have the chance. Looks like SFNE's way to phase out the VR experience. I wouldn't be surprised to see it go for the next season.

Hey, everyone! Any news about Goliath? I know the cable snapped a few weeks ago but does anybody have news about its replacement? I am planning to visit the park on August 8th or 9th for the first time and I was wondering if it would be open. Since I will be in the area on the 8th and 9th (also planning to hit Lake Compounce), what would be the best day to go to each park? At SFNE, what rides should I ride first to maximize my day? If any locals are interested in meeting at any of those parks, send me a PM! It'd be great to share some coaster riding!

Hi! Shambhala can be a bit of a bitch with large riders. There have been many reports of people being turned away at the station because the lapbars couldn't be locked. It's weird because it has the same trains as some of the American B&M hypercoasters yet this one tends to be more restrictive. However, there is a test seat at the beginning of the line which might be helpful. As for the rest of the park, there should be no problem with Dragon Khan, Furius Baco or Stampida. Hope that helps! Enjoy your day at the park and pray for them to run at least 2 trains on everything... -

I bet it's going to open before Lightning Rod Kudos to the park for doing everything they can to open the ride in the next 2 months, considering it's still getting built... Hey, it's Sweden we're talking about, those guys invented Ikea, so I am sure they know how to assemble a wooden coaster faster than I would assemble a table from Ikea -

Well, that's partially true. Parks run the coasters according to the manufacturer's specification. So, if the ride was designed to run at X speed, the park is not allowed to alter the hardware (trains, brakes, sensors) without risking losing the manufacturer's "warranty". Otherwise, ask Europa Park how they got denied when they tried to run Silver Star without trims during a fan event years ago. B&M flat out refused to allow that and EP agreed not to. I know this is not exactly the same scenario but I am sure B&M have done enough calculations to know what speed the train should go at every inch of the track. -

Even though rumours pointed out to Torre del Mar being relocated to Terra Mítica, the Spanish park went for a brand new Star Flyer. I know this because TM's Star Flyer was finished months ago and has already been testing. By the way, I am so happy to see another park investing in a SkyFly. They are such amazing rides! They can go from really mild and pleasant to completely insane, and it looks like Hansa's will have top-notch themeing, which is great! Wasn't there another German/Austrian park with an oddly-themed SkyFly called Volo Da Vinci or something like this? -

http://mondialrides.com/rides/transportable/inferno ...and the Diablo is the Suspended Version of an Inferno. I've seen some of those before online, they look fun! Are there any known ones in the US? Pretty sure they are as rare as the Splashovers. I don't think there's any in the US. The only one I have ridden was at a random small park in Southern France called Pirat'Park under the name Intoxx. It was a fun ride but I would take a top scan on a good cycle any day. -

I just caught Delirium testing on the live cam and while it looks beautiful, the ride cycle looks extremely short. I think it only reached its top angle ONCE. Hopefully it's just testing and they will extend the ride time a little bit, or at least have different ride programs so that ops can run the ride differently according to attendance/wait times. -

No. If you look at the track connectors, it looks like it will do a 90º twist just like Xcelerator or Stealth. And am I the only one who thinks that 3 trains holding 12 riders is not enough for such a big ride? I mean, both Dragster and KK pull long queues despite having higher capacity trains. I doubt this will be any different, and considering the "stellar" operations at PA, I predict that this will be a nightmare to get on... This will also act as a reminder for guests visiting the park this year that they have a big reason to come back in 2017. This will sell a lot of tickets and passes...
