And BGE changed their teaser!!!!!
Jon Sabo replied to Montu's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Good pic/post Montu! I seen another post (from another forum) as well and they were quick to point out the sign changes as well. Guess the marketing dept. realized 'like nothing else in the world' slogan was used by BGT and now BGE will devise a new slogan on their own. Or, another mystery plan to keep season pass holders intrigued over the winter months. They did it with Alpengeist and AC (and even DF). The term "Flight Menacing" is still present and that certainly is intriguing. Many rumors (on many sites lately) are reverting back towards a B&M flyer or drop tower ride. I really cannot see A-B squandering the opportunity to deviate from the B&M-DM contract that both companies agreed towards. The DM contract would essentially expire in '08 and other parks would have an opportunity to develop/theme their own DM-concept(s). I wouldn't be suprised if the Busch/B&M team really got creative with a new 'flyer' concept (inversions, etc), but also remember that BGE tends to cater towards its "family" atmosphere/image and a ride that may be too aggressive in nature may turn against the park in some aspects. I don't believe that a flyer-coaster would fit into BGE's landscape and the park generally goes "all-out" when adding their coasters lately. Can 5 acres really fit the bill (for BGE) in creating an incredible flyer for its theme/area? No. It really is a fine-balance with BGE (vs. BGT) in terms of creating a ride that appeals to all areas of thrillseekers. And, with 2 flyers already located within a certain radius (GA & NJ) around the Va. themer, it really wouldn't make sense in terms of marketing. I think (hope) management has learned its lesson(s) from the DF installation. Just a thought. -

^Ditto. Also, since A-B has installed their B&M products within the varied park chain, their maintenance costs (coaster-budgets as they were referred to 8yrs ago) have been reduced by 19%. They also have a reliability rate (uptime parameters..etc) of 91% (as of 2004) and the ease by which management can train their operators. Some say less lawsuits (although 'actual figures' that has yet to be proved, but not as much incidents/injuries when compared to the other product line of coasters currently operating). -
Kings Island (KI) Discussion Thread
Jon Sabo replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Well. Those recent posts certainly say it all now..lol I don't ever remember calling it a "biohazard" incident back in the days of BGE ride ops. We just cleared out the section/car/coach...spray 'kitty-litter' on it.....run the ride a couple of cycles, hose it down and disinfect the harness/seats and then put the peeps in. With today's politically correct version, it almost sounds like a nuclear power plant incident occured. I almost can imagine the bio-hazard team now, dressed in yellow or orange suits with their masks on carrying kitty-litter bags. Then again, some of the incidents I had witnessed over the years, it may have been a nuclear power plant incident (don't you just hate when you 'see' what the person ate for lunch? -
^I hope your 'unlimited budget' makes use in investing in quality training, employees, pay/benefits, and a lifetime supply of Goody's Headache powder.

Jon (the end). In Hawaii- Local name is "Eh Bra!", "Hoale Boy", "Mr. Peepers", "Whad up Cuz"

Damn I am biased here, but last beer is an A-B products BUD/Bud-Light. My normal 6 (monthly) cases arrived this week. It's good to be a A-B alumni!. Thing that sucks in Hawaii is, I have to travel to the local distribution center to pick it up. Why is that a problem per say? Two Words: Maui Traffic!

Great Photo updates on the TPR update page and Point Extreme! Pretty soon the wind will blow off the blue tarps and we shall get our answer on all of the posted rumors of the ride...lol -

Jon Sabo replied to cfc's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
BGE certainly isn't wasting anytime in their prep work/land clearing for its newest "bird". Photo updates below. LNM is about to receive a new 'beast' near its nesting hole. I always enjoyed how BG tried to 'save' as many trees as possible and replant them elsewhere. Credit Link: http://bgescape.com/index.php?page=02_July_1 -
Also, looks like SFFT is receiving a family ride in 07, a longer extension into its season (including the winter holidays) and most of all-NO TICKET PRICE increase! Someone is waking up at the Snyder/Shapiro camp...lol Here is a link to an article relating to the original post: http://www.mysanantonio.com/business/stories/MYSA071406.1C.SixFlags.11667b2.html *Unless I misread an earlier article about a month ago, SFGAD is still on the 'safe' list and they were planning on the hotel(s) being built. I believe the interview was on a USA-Today business or money page.

Another bad year for ride accidents?
Jon Sabo replied to Jon Sabo's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Next invention will be similar to what real estate agents do. Put a 'box' place along the side of the ambulance with the law firm's business cards. "We want your business" -
1. Credit Link: http://www.telegram.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20060620/NEWS/606200529/1116 2. It can be scary at times when going to a local fair and not knowing if a ride is safe or not. But, recent trends in sex offenders being hired by Carnival owners/operators is REALLY scary!. Link: http://www.telegram.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20060711/NEWS/607110689/1116

NEWS FLASH - 2006 COLORADO SUPER LAWYER - Recognized as one of the top personal injury lawyers in Colorado Link: http://www.legal-rights.com/CM/ClaimInformation/AmusementParkAccidents.asp A friend in CO. emailed this link to me regarding a local Law Firm now adding "amusement park accidents" to their list of greed. Will this ever end?

The AT-AT in front of Star Tours is the best! I wish I had one of those in my backyard..lol

Richard Kiley would make an awesome voice-over for the next BGE ride/commercial. He was the original host of Mutual of Omaha's Animal Kingdom. I remember watching that show with my grandfather when I was a kid. His voice just as classic as Vincent Price had. I believe he also had a cameo (voice) in JP-1 & 2 movies.

Non Racing Colossus at SFMM
Jon Sabo replied to verticalzero's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I would also add that it may be a maintenance/budget $$ issue. The park may be trying to cut-costs and having both sides racing would more than likely put alot more strain on the aging structure and maintenance would have to almost perform "double-duty" to inspect/green tag the ride for the next day. Also, MM probably doesn't have the maintenance personell (quantity) to perform the inspections in a timely manner. They may be inspecting one side when the other is operating. -
Ever had a black out on a coaster?
Jon Sabo replied to Dark Vampire's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I know this topic is about 'blackouts' on coasters, but I would be curious on a number count with Disney's M-S. I believe I almost greyed-out on Nessie when I first rode it. I barely made the height limit and that first-drop and loop were pretty insane at the time. -

In reference to the Chicken Curry pic....I wonder if Crackel Barrel does that?..lol I enjoy Curry chicken, but not how the locals make in Hawaii. Damn they "pour" on that curry powder and I think I could get another 3-4 mpg out of my Lexus after eating that! -
Photo TR: I Got a TPR Bag of crap!
Jon Sabo replied to WillMontu's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
That tv screenshot is classic. "Insert Caption Here" Almost looks as if Robb was told he couldn't ride Tatsu until the que-line was completely cleaned. -
Actually I would'nt blame Arrow or BGE management, I would blame the host that day, Dana Carvey. He referred DF as "Satan"....damn that church lady~! Another classic line (sorry for not giving proper credit, although I believe it was also quoted by Mr. Carvey). "Only a company that its main focus is brewing beer would come up with a ride like this!" One of the funniest people I ever met. Other classics: Kumba-Michael Richards (remember when he 'fell' between the trains on opening day?) Kumba-Drew Carey "Wow that thing is bitchn'! It has more curves than my stomach" BBW-Vincent Price (the man's voice alone gave me chills!)

Kings Island (KI) Discussion Thread
Jon Sabo replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
^ Good Point Mforce. PKI's marketing and PR departments are doing the best they can, in my opinion. I think this is a new incident they had not experienced before (unless there is some evidence this did occur before) and the PR staff is being as straightforward as possible based on the facts that are coming in. I think this isn't the end and the local inspectors will surely release its final report/findings when the inspection(s) are completed. Which, as stated, could take several weeks. As others have noted on this site in another "media" post/topics, the information released by news outlets provide generalizations on the incident based on information that is available and written to conform to... "what sells newspapers". Our society, in general, has been somewhat 'brainwashed' into the drama-queen scenario that news/media outlets will post what sells papers..its the almighty dollar. Several concrete examples: Recent article regarding Alton Towers incident: http://www.themeparkreview.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=26790 The Valleyfair incident... And...look at the posts regarding the Disney Mission Space incident(s) and pending/current lawsuit topics....and so on..and so on. Although varied opinions regarding the quality of the ride experience(s) on SOB is to each person preference, it should be noted that we all should respect those preferences (either love or hate the ride). I believe it is paramount that SOB is operating to the safest level the park can make it. I recal many opinions regarding CP's Mean Streak and that ride appears to still be standing and operating. But, is it operating under 'unsafe' conditions? Highly unlikely. -Just a thought. -
Volcano / Flight of Fear

Someone already posted that volcano was open on the last thread. http://www.themeparkreview.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=26182&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=50 Which thread is being used now? This one or continuing the original one? -
^Wow. I thought I was the only old timer that noticed how the ride operations/efficiency have degraded at BGE over the years. I posted several ideas why it's happening on other forums, but not sure if I posted those comments on this site. Looks like management having a hard time finding employees as well as incorporating their 'diversity' work program. Some of my former bosses even confided that there are "some challenges" in finding workers at the park and even changed how some rides operate or even been closed (Skyride operation/schedule, stacking all of their coasters, less attention to detail/ride 'operating'). It wouldn't be fair in saying its a 'sweat shop' situation, but it is quite interesting how they are meshing the two programs (local job market and the foreign workers/diversity program) together to hopefully infuse some (much needed) life into their operations. Some of the job fairs have BG(E) posting "INCREASED Pay" for the -06 season, just to get them into the door. Many...many changes have occured alot lately and in recent years (some really unfortunate). But, I don't think it just relates to BGE issues (alot of the park chains appear to be struggling).
