Kennywood (KW) Discussion Thread

Steel Curtain was running two trains today! -
Fun topic idea! Jack Rabbit (KW) - one of several 1920 coasters that first introduced upstop wheels Sky Rocket (KW) - prototype Premier Sky Rocket Phoenix - proved viability of relocating woodies Not to nitpick, but I think that Montezooma is just the last American shuttle loop in its original spot.

Tumble Bug is done after 95 years. It's too bad, but I'm just glad that it stayed around as long as it did for me to ride it. They may have wanted to relocate it to make room for the water park given their Facebook post and that they were initially carefully removing its parts, but once they tried taking out the track - permanently attached to the cement - they probably realized why there were only 2 of these left out of the 100 built. The funniest thing is that they're putting all five cars as decoration on the midway. It's like if a park took all 20 of their old log flume boats and scattered them around.

Waldameer Discussion Thread

If you can imagine an RMC Woodstock Express at KD/KI/CW then you'll realize that's pretty silly. Plus Waldameer has said that Comet is the most "untouchable ride in the park." -

Maybe they'll RMC Comet and make it a spinning coaster just for kicks. -

Two trains are on Sky Rocket now! (Sorry for the troll post.) There was some major maintenance issue with the second train last year. -

I'm assuming you know that the unlimited pass is really expensive for what you get. It was $130 in 2019. I saw some people using it last weekend but don't know any details. You have a sheet of paper which the ride op has to sign, holding up the line for everyone while they walk across the train to fill out their name, birthday, and favorite color. Only if you're lucky will they then open the queue gates. -

Yep, the 10:30/11 thing has been the norm for as long as I can remember. -

Were the official TPR trip reports removed from the "trip reports" section for each park? -

Kennywood had a sweepstakes contest for the Jack Rabbit's 100th anniversary last year with 100 winners of a season pass. They postponed the party to this year, but it finally happened yesterday, Opening Day. Since I was one of the winners, we got to enter the park early for an hour of ERT. Of course, Kennywood really took a nosedive this past offseason with the removal of four rides. But the rest of the park is not even close to being up to standard. Steel Curtain apparently valleyed, despite being hyped up by the park to be ready for opening day. You could see one of the trains in pieces from the Jack Rabbit (along with pieces from the Paratrooper). Black Widow is also now officially in its third season of being closed. The third train on Thunderbolt is gone and isn't coming back because they built a fence around where it was kept on the transfer track. They never used three trains at once but just kept a spare like the Jack Rabbit, which also has three. I'm hoping that they'll still run two in the future, but on Opening Day, just one was being used. Phantom was on one train too. Shocking, right? You can see how they're filling every row, which is done now on every coaster. Alright, here's the four pictures you might be interested in! You could mistake the Volcano as just being down for the day if you didn't look too closely. The social distancing markers are even still in the queue line. The most depressing fence in the world took the place of Bayern Kurve. I heard that it may have been sold to California's Great America for parts (not to Knoebels for parts). Paratrooper had some trees planted on its plot. But I was glad to see that the door still may be open to a return of the Kangaroo. Like the Volcano, the control system, operator booth, and queue line all still exist. If the park has a profitable summer, I think it could come back in the future. I mean, If you look at the Kennywood Facebook page, literally every post - 6 months after its removal was announced - has at least one troll saying KANGAROO or whatever. The simple move of bringing this one ride back would get them so much good publicity and would make people forget about the other three ride removals. Along with Racer (my favorite KW coaster - weird, I know) the Old Mill is one of my favorite rides in the park even though it's a low-budget retheme. At the complimentary lunch in the pavilion next to the Jack Rabbit, there was a trivia contest, and I was very happy to win an old decorative piece from one of the trains for answering a nerdy question. Crowds were high all day, but I wonder how many of these people are just using their free passes from last year (like me). I would guess that they made up the majority of people visiting. Not the best of times at the park, but at the end of the day, I can't complain about a free season pass and a free lunch! -

Wow, that's interesting. I would guess Wipeout and Paratrooper or maybe Ali Baba. Hopefully they see the importance in keeping Whacky Shack. I hope that its facade gets a paint job in the next few years; they used to do that a lot. -
You've probably heard that it's not running this year. I doubt that they've evaluated the structure yet - that kind of sounds like a "we'll get around to it" type of thing to me. It does sound like the Devil's Den will run at some point in the summer though, so that's good. They haven't made a Facebook post in nearly a month, and that was just a "disclaimer" about the Tumble Bug to say that it would return in the future. They then took it entirely apart, saving just the cars and sweeps and jackhammering all the concrete. I love that thing, but I really don't see this guy pouring $$$ into getting it running again. In the end, if the Blue Streak does reopen at some point in the future, I'll still look at this ownership change in a positive light.

I loved getting lost in this report and pictures, as always. I'm guessing that once the two year lag time had passed from your 2016 trip, you were already planning the 2019 visit and just figured you'd save the pictures until now, nearly five years after they were taken! Happy to see those who included the date with their signature formatted it the right way! I would probably forget. I like the nicely padded chair for the operators - do other European parks do that?

Efteling Discussion Thread
CenturyFlyer replied to Pepper's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
How much time and money did they throw at this joke (turn on subtitles)? I find it interesting that the Efteling YouTube channel has nearly 200k subscribers! -
Haha, you're right! Of course I would love to see the train completely refurbished, with the return of the fourth car and working headlights again! Let's dream! I just thought it was worth mentioning that the train does need a refresh... but yeah, I would be sad if they got rid of it. Whatever needs to be done to preserve the ride is fine by me! The trackwork they've done on the first three drops in the past five years has been impressive, and they were working on the lift hill pre-covid. It didn't seem like there was ever any new wood on the actual support structure, though. The train, on the other hand, didn't seem to have much visible work done to it. As much as I love the vintage look, it really needs replaced. Retrofit the original Vettel train? Yeah, right...

For those who didn't see it, pictures were posted this morning of lots of buildings with spray-painted Xs on them, obviously meaning they're slated for demolition. The park then posted this on their Facebook page: So yeah, Conneaut is still Conneaut. By the way, the building removals are all unattractive and run-down structures.
