  1. ^This site is more diverse than that < black I want to go for the party tomorrow, BUT I dont get off till 5p and it takes me a good 3.5 to 4 hours if I drive straight through...not really worth it at that point. However, I am considering making a day trip to the park on Saturday
  2. ^Especially since all the tweets I have been seeing from the D23 Expo have Iger saying there are no definate plans as of yet. They are looking into it, but its going to take a bit more work to make it happen the way they want it to. I just hope they do it correctly with all the effects. Bringing back the fiber optic starfield curtains that enclosed the room might prove to be the biggest challenge IMO. I also wonder if they own the complete rights to the film and music (including the exit music).
  3. Pyton Pit at Zonkers in Olathe, KS...8.31.09
  4. I saw this ride on that Extreme Rides Mega Speed show they had on Travel Channel the other night. The show made it seem like it was open and running normally. Guess not.
  5. ^I think its a combination of factors... 1. Most of the time, they only run one side. They alternate throughout the year, but its usually right or left. Could be staffing, but I notice they tend to rehab one side while the other is down (at least during parts of the year) 2. By only running it backward during Fright Fest, it keeps it "special" and seems to be a good draw for people to visit the park during Fright Fest. I also have to wonder if there is some concern that by using the trains for too long would have a detrimental effect on the structure. For so many years, we have heard rumblings that the trains were soooo heavy and really hard on the Psyclone structure. Not sure, but just a thought.
  6. Can anyone else confirm or deny this? I don't want to drive all the way out there Friday evening and have a Wallyworld experience. Aren't the coupon books printed up for each park specifically since it has to list specific stores and eateries? The season pass "promotion" is different than the season pass "appreciation event" mentioned in the coupon book. The season pass "promotion" is a twitter-based thing they are doing in conjunction with Papa Johns to sell 2010 season passes at the non-year round parks...hence why the SFMM promo wont start until sometime in November. The season pass "appreciation event" as mention in the book, is still on for tomorrow 9/11. So you'll be good to get in (and use the discount coupon in the book). Also FYI, many coupons in those books (save for most of the admission and appreciation event discounts) can be used at ANY SF park systemwide
  7. Yes they do except debit/credit cards at the toll booths. Have fun! While I do think some areas could use benches, I think the placement of some rocks in the park are meant to serve as benches. It seems that landscapers place more angular/pointy rocks where they dont want you to sit, and flatter larger rocks where they don't mind it. The rocks in front of the restrooms in Rapids Camp Crossing and in front of ex-Sierra Twist come to mind.
  8. This phenomena is called a Flash Mob and they do happen in the states from time to time. It doesnt necessarily have to have dancing involved, but the biggest/most popular ones seem to be dance related. We had one here in Vegas on the strip last year to promote awareness over climate change (or something like that)...unfortunately there was no dancing involved
  9. ^According to the 50th Anniversary exhibit, it was half monorail, half skyride. Its a shame for most of the year they have all that open area unused up on the second level.
  10. ^Perhaps you arent standing the correct/best position on Riddler? I never have either problem with leg strain or genital crushing. I rode once "sitting" and found that more uncomfortable. Maybe it comes down to body proportions.
  11. For all those who complain about Ghostrider, try riding it around the end of the year before it goes into its rehab and then try it again right after it comes back up...night and day.
  12. Electric Rainbow? Interesting...I wonder who used that name for that particular style of ride first...Stricker's or Magic Mountain.
  13. ^Thats the thing, its not allowed. Its even posted at most parks that leaving the line for any reason and returning is considered line jumping. Yet and still people do it. It sucks but its just something we deal with. You have to be careful who you approach about it...sometimes its just not worth the altercation (if there is no security around). As for a Tony Hawk style ride coming to the park. I'm fine with that. I've ridden them at both SFOT and SFFT and the beauty of a spinning coaster is that each ride will be different. They seem to offer much more of a spin than Sierra Sidewinder anyway. As for duplicating rides within a state/region, I don't think the GP mind it. Take Texas for example. SWOT and SFFT both have Batman clones and they are in the same city pretty much. Taking it a step further...SFFT and SFOT both have Batman clones, Boomerang clones AND Tony Hawk clones that manage to have lines. Both parks also have Scramblers, Shoot the Chutes, wooden coasters, etc. Considering the economy I'm happy for any park to add to their line up. It only helps disburse the crowds
  14. ^Its about time. Both San Antonio and Orlando had upgraded their shows while San Diego kept the old one plugging along. I wonder how similar the set will be to the Florida version.
  15. I remember this park from the 90's Nickelodeon show Wild n' Crazy Kids! They had a few challenges on the rides including the Bombay Blasters and the Congo River Rapids. Good stuff.
  16. 1. Apollo's Swing was worth it to me. I had only been on the Knott's version before and this one seemed more intense. Timber Fall's Skyscraper by itself is $20, or $10 if you buy a wristband. 2. The indoor track is a rather short elongated oval that runs along the side of Opa!. It doesnt go outside at all. I skipped it because it seemed pretty lame compared to the outdoor tracks. I liked the Poseidon (underwater) track the best. 4. I was in the Dells the weekend before Memorial Day and it was pretty empty all around so they were actually waiting for us at Timber Falls. They have just one 12 seat train so I imagine the wait could be quite lengthy with any kind of line. The Skyscraper is in Timber Falls' parking lot. Oh and dont forget Mt. O recently started charging to park (lame).
  17. To date Ive only been on Kryton, Scream and Medusa West. I'd say Krypton is by far the best I have been on...especially if you can get an early morning ride before the trims kick in. Medusa West is also big fun, especially the drop off the midcourse. The rattle on Scream kinda kills it for me.
  18. I visited SFFT for the first time over two days back in June. I enjoyed it immensely and rank it among my top three Six Flags behind SFMM and SFGAm. I think it has a better mix of flats and coasters than a lot of other parks and pretty good operations. I loved the setting as well. No real complaints, except they should try to run three towers on Scream when it gets busy. The shows were good stuff as well!
  19. I'm headed down to Orlando for 5 days with plans to hit up the resort on Sunday 7/19. Ive been debating stopping back by on the 22nd (I have that super bowl promo ticket afterall). Hopefully good news awaits me.
  20. Yes there is a slight right-hand angle to the break run. This was brought up elsewhere during the Prowler construction. Apparently, its a technique that GCI uses to reduce wear and tear on the braking mechanisms. How it works is that it forces the train to "settle" to one side, allowing the fins to better align themselves with the braking mechanisms. Especially if there is a turn leading into the brake run, there is a shuffle due to the change in lateral force. Eventually as the train moves across the straightway it would settle on its own. GCI, however, uses the slight bank to help it along so the fins pass through the brakes more uniformly therefore reducing the wear on the fins and mechanisms themselves. If you look at photos their other rides, particularly Prowler and Evil Knevil you will notice it there as well. Pretty ingenious, but I too was confused when I first saw it.
  21. For me it would have to be Tatsu in the back row. I equate the front row of Tatsu to be the back row of the Superman flyers if you want a comparison. That pretzel loop is killer, but I am happy that they haven't had to tone it down over the past three years. Sometimes intense is good. Runner up would have to be the Batman: The Ride layout. I have been on them at SFMM, SFOT and SFGAm as well as Great White at SWOT and Goliath at SFFT. I have to say the SFMM remains to seem the craziest out of all of them (to me at least). Goliath (aka Namtab aka Gambit) seems to lack the "snap" in the flat spins...maybe because it has less weight with the 7 car train. Great White is just strange to me...fun but strange in how its forceful UNTIL the last flat spin and spiral into the brakes.
  22. ^Not in the least. I visited for the first time back in May and it was a mix of everything that has been said. HOWEVER... We went the weekend before Memorial Day so it was still pretty chilly up there (by my Vegas standards) so they only had Zues, Cyclops, the go kart tracks and the indoor water park and theme park open. Later on it warmed up to the very low 60s they finally opened Hades and Apollo's Swing. We got lucky because they were only charging $20 for the wristband and with no lines for anything (expect the gokarts) we got more than our money's worth That said, I had a good time. My friend is from the area and told me to keep my expectations low and I had a good time. The staff could be better, but they are mostly internationals so maybe its a cultural thing. I question some of the saftey operations, but I cant say I ever feared for my life. Its true you are supposed to be 18 to sit in the back of Cyclops, but they never checked. As for the mention of Zues overshooting the brakes, Zues and Cyclops are manually braked in the station by the op. Some ops are much better than others at stopping the trains and in theory you can let a train go right through (as Ive heard they do during some special events).
  23. Interesting... because the lady at the front did ask if I was with ACE. I assumed it had something to do with me having a big camera, and just replied that I wasn't with ACE, but was going to take pictures to post a trip report on TPR. I have no idea if they normally only allow ACE members though... it didn't seem that way to me at the time, but who knows. Anyone can enter the park and ride pretty much any ride as long as you can fit/meet the rider requirements. They asked you because they have an ACE discount ($9.95 for admission). During Solace and they gave the discount to everyone with the event lanyard. The people at the front were really nice and were pretty familiar with coasters and enthusiasts in general.
  24. This I understand, however, unless they are really thinking outside the bun for the next ride renovation its getting redundant. The fire, mist and music has been done at SFMM...twice. I'm just saying, there's nothing wrong with just slapping some paint on it and cleaning up the area a bit without applying a theme.
  25. Why must we need a theme on Scream? Why cant they just paint it and be done with it?
