Cedar Point (CP) Discussion Thread

Yeah I got stuck in the tunnel on Saturday night on one of the last rides of the day. I'd say it took around fifteen or twenty minutes to get it up and running again. Then they were nice enough to send us around agin. What a coincidence. A friend and I were getting on right as it went down. Some other people we knew were stuck in the holding zone (train behind yours) and we had to get off as we were still in the station. We were all wondering if a train was in the tunnel during all the evacs and what not. When your train got back the girl in the front was all "THAT WAS SO SCARY". lol. I think it woulda been kinda fun to be down there not knowing when you'd launch. -

nice photos. i was at the park Sunday 5.23 as well. Did you happen to see the back to back TTD rollback around 4p...pretty awesome stuff. -
That sucks that you weren't able to ride Superman, but I believe they added sensors in those lapbars. Interesting you could ride Volcano (arguably the most restrictive ride at KD) but not Superman and Joker's Jinx. A tip for SFA's Superman for taller folks, the back row of each car has a lil more leg room due to the positioning of the lap bar "box". When I visited last month, I was having a hard time in the front of a car because of this and they let me move to the row behind. It was early morning and there was no one else in line so I'm not sure why they were being difficult.

I noticed it back in December and again in February. They have two specials: 1.) 2-for-1 rides before noon 2.) the aforementioned passholder special. In reality it could have been there even earlier than that. Seems that so few people actually ride it, the specials probably went unnoticed. And I agree when it comes to charging for it, they are dammed if they do, dammed if they dont. Make it free and run the chance of having a crazy line, or charge for it and have minimal ridership. I always thought it would have been better to place La Revolucion in that spot. Oh well.

^Scream, Goliath, Viper, Tatsu, X2, Terminator, Jet Stream and Canyon Blaster still have on-ride photo. They have a variety of packages ranging from appox. $15 and up once you add tax. Of course if you have a pass, you get discounts and the coupon book this year had a few good coupons with extra discounts.

Holiday Park Discussion Thread

^^Looking at those photos wouldn't it seem that whatever happened, happened closer to the bottom of the hill and the train kinda bunched up as it reached that point? When considering physics, wouldnt there have been more destruction and injuries if it was a sudden jam/decceleration? I'm thinking it was a gradual, albeit abrupt stoppage. -
I'm pretty sure I saw this first hand at Six Flags America earlier this month and I think SFMM have this at the Cyber Cafe as well. They definately provide a nice clean look over the old boards. Regal Entertainment Group and some KFCs have starting putting these into thier venues. I figured it was only a matter of time before parks started doing this on a wide spread basis as well.

Why would they want gates on a ride like this? I mean, is this going to be like Pilgrim's Plunge where boats don't stop at the station and people have to board the boats while in motion or is this going to use a stop-and-go system like a coaster? These gates appear the same kind of set up they have on Perilous Plunge at Knotts - they arent pneumatic gates. They seem to be the magnetic locking gates that are unlocked from a panel and the guests simply "push" through to board when its your turn. I'm saying this based on the box and plate to the left of each gate. And seeing the multiple sets of gates, I agree that this is likely to be a stop/go deal which, if loading two boats at a time, would be just as fast as a continuously moving station. Knowing how clumsy the GP are when getting into already moving ride vehicles, it might prove to be even faster. -
I redeemed my Skip the Line pass first thing when we got there so I only had a one person wait...same when I went back later in the day. Good think I missed the line I have a feeling they want people to get them "validated" so as to avoid abuse of the system. But here's the thing... For the Skip the Line pass, they actually scanned the voucher to verify, took the voucher and gave me a green pass to use. For the drink voucher, he just stamped it. So in theory I could have made copies and had someone else go in and get a stamp. Perhaps they have to revisit this process. The wording on the voucher for the drinks is wierd as it says present to participating restaurants. It mentions Cyber Cafe as one of them, but nowhere does it mention going to Guest Relations or that the cafe is the only place. I imagine it is cheaper to have people visit guest relations instead of installing scanners at all the participating venues. The main problem is the one of crowding...they only had two people working at GR. I also noticed they converted the old gas station/RV lot to preferred parking. I dont know how I feel about this as its not that much closer. In fact its about halfway (walking distance wise) between the gate and the first tram stop. If you get there early, you would have parked just as close. But it did seem like there were people paying for it, so good for them. I didnt notice if valet was still being used, but somedays that lot is full!

Most of the headbanging on Revy is due to the transitions instead of any kind of rattle. It's not that they are rough, but rather they were designed with trains that only had lapbars. I havent been on tons of Schwarz's but I notice that during some transitions, your upper body tends to shift from side to side. Add an ill-placed OTSR and there's your headbanging.

^Nice photos! I thought WoF was kinda meh when I visited last summer but it did have some good parts. I really enjoyed my night ride on Prowler. I also was pleasantly suprised by Cloudpoofer and Zulu...they ran really great programs! -
I'll be checking out this park for the first time on Sunday, May 2nd. Does anyone know if they have matched up their platinum pass systems to the rest of Cedar Fair? When I visited Kings Dominion at the beginning of the month, I had to go to Guest Relations first to get a paper ticket. Of course I did not know this would be the case until AFTER I had stood in line to get in. Needless to say I was annoyed, but would have been less so if I would have known to go to Guest Relations first.

^This is why the initial burden lies on the greeter. They have to make that call as to whether or not that person is really a single or merely part of a group that has no intentions of seperating when they get to the front. -

^I disagree. The single rider line worked perfectly the two days I was at the park (April 2 and 5). Its success relies on the person at the front making sure only singles (and not sneaky groups) are using the line AND the grouper is on top of their game. On opening day the groupers would use the singles to fill in space, but would also occasionally fill a couple rows with a pair of singles if that line was getting a bit long. They were cranking through trains, so the regular queue never suffered. During slow times I agree there is no need for the singles line, but during busy time, it serves its purpose. The regular queue doesnt seem to be long enough to hold all the regular folks, PLUS the singles. -
Exactly! I posted on twitter that I thought my eyes were deceiving me. They had two black trains and a red running on the right side. I am thinking they went with three train single station ops as it seems to use less manpower than two trains on each side. I wonder if the days of two sides three trains are out the window - they only had one extra red train chillin' on the storage track and it didnt even have the "Colossus" shell on the front. They were doing good though, they were dispatching as soon as the train in front cleared the lift.

For SFMM at least, it seems like a "cyber cafe" for the back half of the park, the only difference is that this one will have clothes and Wii instead of computers. They gotta try something though - Attitudes was stale about 5 years ago. I'm sure I will stop in once it opens to check it out. But judging by the progress on Sunday, opening day for the SFMM location is still a ways off.

I was at the park on Sunday 4.18. It was busy with the cheerleading/dance competition, but the vast majority of the crews were on point which meant waits were under control. We were there 11a to 6p and got in order - Revy, Tatsu, Terminator (still no audio), Jet Stream, Riddler, Tidal Wave, Batman, Colossus, Scream, Viper and X2. We could have hit more if we were serious about hustling around, but we were taking our time. I was impressed with Colossus actually running three trains with no stacking, kept the line down to a one train wait! I cant even remember the last time that I saw that ride running three trains. The only hiccup we had was the Batman line. They were struggling. Sure the GP can be blamed for all the loose article issues, but some of it was their fault. at least 7 ops in the station with only three doing any real work. AND they really couldnt get the Flashpass thing figured out - they are supposed to alternate what rows they give, not keep putting people in the same row each time a train came in. Then when we called them out on it, they acted confused as to why we were complaining. Every other ride seemed to have together, so why couldn't Batman? But overall it was a good, albeit warm day. Those Six Flags Funatic Rewards come in handy! Gave the free parking to my friends, and used the skip the line pass for X2. Here's a tip for the free soda one as it doesnt say this on the printed voucher...you have to take it to guest relations first for a date stamp and then you can only get it filled at the Cyber Cafe. Not a big deal, but when we first went to use it, we were all the way back by Terminator and had to wait till we made it back to the front. The good thing is that the cafe has Gold Peak iced teas

Ive always wondered how they go about enforcing the weight limit on these slides. I mean, there's no scale up there. AND just because someone looks abover certain weight doesnt mean they are a certain weight - some people "hide" their girth well. And at 250lbs this seems to be the lowest limit of any of the slides there. I wonder how the construction differs to require this restriction.

Tips for Six Flags America?
haiderodes replied to KingB24's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I was just at this park on Sunday 4/4 and I didn't see any of the supposed "bad" area around the park you guys are talking about. In fact it was a lot nicer than most areas here in Vegas. All the employees were really nice. Sure they could be slow at times, but that seemed to be a result of them following the "memo" on engaging the guests and giving high fives. They tried their hardest to make you feel welcome. Perhaps the past haunts them, but I had a much better time at the park than I expected and feel that it gets an unfair shake. I can say I enjoyed my time at SFA more than my time at KD two days before. As far as tips are concerned, it wasn't crowded at all for me (probably due to it being Easter). Wild One and Roar were the only rides with two trains on but there was never more than a two to three train wait on any ride. For back to back re-rides, I suggest making the hike back to Batwing first, then work your way back to the front. It was like I had the park to myself for the first hour. In fact I hit all the coasters twice in the first 90 minutes and I was taking my time walking. Flashpass at SFA is still the paper system. I'd suggest at least trying to get those rides in the back first before getting a pass. If you or someone in your group has a Discover Card, USE IT! That 5% discount is awesome because its for ANY purchase on top of any other coupons or discounts you want to use. AND its automatic.
