Celebration City at night PTR
Shavethewhales replied to Swoosh's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Yeah, only certain sections were working. I know the lights don't go all the way around the track, but there were parts of the light cable that were obviously burned out. -

I sincerely doubt the lights being off means anything more than that they are broken. They're hardly a distraction, and as was said, they certainly aren't as bad as a host of other things in Branson. Heck, the park itself is a distraction as far as that goes. Hopefully they'll get them working again soon - and working completely. When I was there the first day of June, only certain parts were working. -
Support Joyland

^We've discussed why we want the park to re-open over and over again. All you have to do is go back a few pages. The park was obviously a treasured part of Wichita, and many, many people are pissed to the bone that it was treated so miserably. Now the citizens of Wichita want to know why their local government aided in the park's downfall, among other things. I'll have you know that quite a few things that we all enjoy don't make a profit, or at least a profit worth continuing, but we hope they keep going because we enjoy them. If you enjoy something, why not support it? -

^Well, thinking back, it probably was a better ride in the old days, but it's hard to say whether it was the boats or the new track that made it worse. I tend to think the most damage was done by the new layout, which is designed specifically so that there isn't so much danger of being thrown out. Now the ride is all about getting soaked rather than thrills, although there are some turns where the boats still really fly. If DW's boats bank like SDC's used to, then I hope they keep them. I had no idea that they were made in-house though, which makes me wonder even more why SDC got new boats. -
I can't imagine anyone wanting to see this movie, it's nothing but utter crap. Seriously, it doesn't resemble the original series in anyway. Alvin and the Chipmunks are supposed to be freakish 3 ft. tall monsters that society accepts as normal on site. These are actual chipmunks... with voices so high and annoying, I actually leave the theatre when their trailer comes on. And the bit with Alvin eating a turd? Just one more sprinkle of piss on the grave of what once was an enjoyable show. So who wants to bet that the end sequence with feature a highly ambitious rap/pop song that will last no less than 5 minutes?

Opryland USA Remnants 2007
Shavethewhales replied to TheRapidsNerd's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Wow, I was there last summer and had no idea that that was where Opryland once was. So what happened to Opryland's coasters? Weren't most of them scrapped? -

Wow, I'm surprised DW hasn't upgraded the Slidewinder to the new boats like what SDC's waterboggin got back in 2003. The new boats are crazy, they send you farther up the sides of the trough and allow more water to be splashed in, but I think they had to modify the track to allow for them. Anyway, great photos. -
I'm sorry, but the founding fathers were wrong: plain and simple. I honestly could care less about what was carved on a building hundreds of years ago when we are talking about today's issues. Really, I hate when the 'founding fathers' are brought up in moral debates. As they are no longer our leaders, they don't have a hold in what we call right and wrong anymore than Roosevelt or any other past leader does. From your overly-drawn out article, I perceive that the basis for your beliefs on homosexuality are entirely formulated from what you have read in the bible, and you accept what everything the bible tells you unquestioningly because you might as well. I'm sorry, but not only is the bible definitely not 'the only thing we have to go on', but even if it was, that in no way means we have to follow it. If Cedar Point told us Gemini was 600 ft. tall, I'd call horse crap, and so would everyone else. That's how I view the Bible. Anyway, it doesn't matter. If we are going to follow what the founding fathers stated, then as all men are created equal and are granted the right to pursue happiness, this shouldn't even be a debate.

Best Herschend park
Shavethewhales replied to dr.gumbo's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Yeah, but the reason SDC's employees are usually so old is because many of them have been there for 30+ years or so. I believe over half of their employees have been there 20 years or more. Nobody seems to want to quit! They're still really nice people though, and if you ever get to talking about SDC's past with them, boy do they have some stories. -
Canada's Wonderland helmet problems
Shavethewhales replied to CdnbMatt's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I hate to turn this into a culture debate, but... 1.) - You don't think Sikhs can be extremists? I've met a lot of very nice Sikhs, but I call little incidents like the one in question pretty extreme. I know it's not the extreme most people think of when thinking of religious extremes, but it's pretty extreme none-the-less. I've seen things like this happen in airports over and over again, and the rows that hold everyone up for 20 mins. aren't pretty. 2.) I said they were from the east. India is in the east from me... oh wait, I did mention the middle east in the last sentence, but that was more toward all the other incidents similar to this that I keep hearing about. Anyway, the point of my post, however blunt and hurried it was, was that religious customs shouldn't allow a given person the power to change basic rights and rules that everyone else has to follow. If you can't take the basic rules we've set out, then don't try to blunder through them as if everyone will just ignore you just because you have a demanding religion to follow. -
Best Herschend park
Shavethewhales replied to dr.gumbo's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I can't say for sure, as I've only been to SDC and CC, but I've always heard that SDC has a small lead on DW, just because SDC has a fully implemented theme. Everywhere you go in SDC, you feel a complete park experience, and it's like nothing you can find anywhere else. DW seems to have become more of a theme park in general, although it still looks fantastic. Just look at SDC's eateries - each one has it's own individual story with real life characters. The addition of MM makes the choice even harder, but I still think SDC has a little pwnage on DW. -

Flooded Mine
Shavethewhales replied to Electerik's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
How different was the flooded mine at DW from the version at SDC? If they took out the DW version because of maintainence, why has nothing been done with the SDC version? I hope they aren't planning on taking it out anytime soon. Yeah, I still don't think they'd demolish the thing because of a snake infestation though. The mall in my town is prone to hosting rattlesnakes, but they're certainly not going to just tear the whole thing down. -

Shavethewhales replied to Electerik's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I wasn't talking about the overall themes so much as I was in the hidden similarities in the architecture and charm additives, among other things. There always one view of both TT's station and Wildfire's that people point out as being starkly similar. I think we actually discussed something like this when TGS was being built... I guess some of this stuff you just have to look for. -
Flooded Mine
Shavethewhales replied to Electerik's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
^^If you think the similarities between the ride collections is neat, you should compare some of the theming. TT's theming is eerily close to Wildfire's in some regards. -

^Ergg, if that story is indeed true, I'm pissed. Water Moccasins are indeed a problem, as I've had relatives that have been nearly killed by them, but I don't see why it was worth taking the ride out over. I mean, they don't (usually) close down McDonald's after a rat outbreak. No, they clean it up and go on, and I can't see why that couldn't have happened here. Just one more case of an American park being forced to go too far just to cover it's ass (again, assuming that story is true). -
Wow, I'm going to have to somewhat disagree with you on a few points there. If you think CC is still looking for itself, try visiting WWW (well, if you could..) I get what you're saying though, but I think the park as it is now is still better than dozens of other parks I've been to. No love for the Jack Rabbit? Aw, I tend to love it, but I can see how most people get hurt on it. This is where it pays to have a small frame. You didn't like Accelerator? It always catches me by surprise, you can't get air like that very many places. Great photos though.

Any coupons for SDC/WOF ??
Shavethewhales replied to Bob O's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
SDC used to have these deals on those little milk cartons you get at donut places, but I haven't seen them for awhile. I think your best bet is to stop by a gas station in Branson and check the Coke cans and such for special deals. -
SDC will be awesome during the week. The only crowds to be expected are the 30 or so minute waits for PK, and maybe a few minutes at TGS. If you want to get a lot of rides in on PK, get there before opening, wait at the chain, and head there first - it's worth it. Remember to stop by one of the bakeries and pick up a piece of that famous cinnamon bread. CC is great, IMO, but it's a much different experience than that of SDC. The rides are mostly generic, but Wildcat is absolutely awesome. CC really is more of an amusement park, but it's a really nice one at that. The buildings are gorgeous, the park clean, the food is pretty good, and the shows aren't bad. You can usually 'do' the park pretty quickly, but I always end up coming back for more. I'd say it's worth doing, but only if you love riding rides.

Photos of Defunct Rides
Shavethewhales replied to Le Serpent Mascara's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Dude, that's the nicest and most purposeful free site I've ever seen. If you want to add Bell's (Tulsa, OK) to the list, I've got some photos of several rides that won't make it to the new park. Bell's is kinda off from the other parks on the list though. -
^I dunno dude, if I lived within 2 hours of the park, I'd probably go to it. I mean, why not? It wasn't that expensive, and it did actually have a few good rides. They say it didn't have anything outstanding, but it did have a frisbee, flyers, a good log flume, a small power surge, and several other good rides. Also, about Kansas being a bad place to build a park: Wichita really isn't that bad of a place. About 500,000 people live within that area, and many of them are the park-going kind, just not during downpours. It's not that susceptible to natural disasters like tornadoes, floods, or much of anything other than the occasional heavy winds. The rain this season was truly out of the ordinary though. I mean, who would have guessed that a low pressure system would get caught and spun around OK and KS for a full month?
