Hong Kong Disneyland (HKDL) Discussion Thread
Jew replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
If this article is true, it really sends the message that Disney is banking on the success of the Shanghai park. Either that, or it's just a ploy to get more money from the Hong Kong government. I actually remember reading awhile back that Disney and the Hong Kong government were in negotiations regarding the finances of expanding the park, so it could very well be just a negotiation tactic. I'm certainly not an expert on the Chinese theme park market, but just on the surface it seems like a short-sighted decision. I'm sure that their attendance from mainland China will suffer with the Shanghai park, but I don't see why they can't continue to grow the local and "westerner" market, as Hong Kong is still a crucial "gateway" to China. -
Finishing up with baseball for now, today we have a Dodgers spring training game. I'm still kicking myself for never being able to catch a game at Dodgertown, but the Dodgers moving to Glendale allowed for me and Dan to take a quick Southwest flight over to Phoenix to take in a game @ the new Camelback Ranch. This was the first spring training game I went to, and I had a great time. I definitely want to do more than just a day trip and check out a few more camps next year... The view from our seats. Oh, there's that guy again too. This guy gets lots of attention. I think he's really rich. And can really hit. When he wants to. For $100 you get this buffet and a seat right behind home plate. That's right. $100. For a spring training game. The diamond. All the baseball drills going on almost made me forget there was a new stadium there too! Here's the obligatory wide shot showing the stadium and the outfield standing room only section. Lenny Harris was the batting instructor over at one of the minor league fields. Venturing further into the complex, me and Dan went to check out the minor league camp. This turned out to be my favorite part of the trip...getting to watch the instruction up close. It made me want to pick up a baseball and see if I could still throw a curve ball. But since Jews can't play sports, that probably wouldn't have gone too well. ...We also find that unlike the White Sox, the Dodgers had all their fields open for the public to get right up against the fences. This is the major leaguers not starting in the game taking batting practice. ...we find Tommy Lasorda signing autographs. I'm fairly certain this is all he gets paid to do now... The complex is split in half by this man made river. Moving on to the Dodger side of the river... Obligatory NOTED! photo. This is the only crappy picture I took of the White Sox portion of the complex, since they decided to be lame and fence off all their areas to the public. Welcome to Camelback Ranch...a very bland spring training complex. It was still nice, but it completely lacked any charm.

Track Spotted in SO CAL
Jew replied to mushrumjaz's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Premier fabricates their track in Salt Lake City. Considering Mummy is the only show building that has been erected so far @ Universal Singapore, I think it is safe to assume the track is for Mummy. -
^Did they specifically say profits? Otherwise highest earning could mean revenue, profits, per-cap spending, or a ton of other things/ Also, the phrase "highly profitable" is a broad statement to begin with. "Highly profitable" in terms of what? Highly profitable for a Six Flags park? Highly profitable for the industry? So I wouldn't read too much into that statement other than to note that it is good SFMM is in the black, because for all we know "highly profitable" to Six Flags could mean a very very very small net profit.

You do realize that you are already dangerously close (if not already in violation) to breaking your NDA just by posting what you have, right? You (and your friends that you give info to) should not be posting any information that is not public information. Or even hinting that you know and can't say anything. If the park tells you to say "it's down for a rehab...they are working real hard, but don't have an ETR" (or whatever they instruct you to say to guests), that is all you should be saying and telling your friends. Anything else can get you in trouble. -
Six Flags May Not Survive 2009...
Jew replied to sfmmrules!'s topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Every market is unique. It's not entirely flawed to say that a good performing park can go a few years without adding something new. It depends on the competition, the reasons for being successful, and many other factors. -

Hard Rock / Freestyle Music Park Discussion Thread
Jew replied to Homer's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Keep in mind that there is more than just the "younger crowd" to target. There is also the mom and dad who will not only know who the Moody Blues are, they will appreciate having something they can bring the whole family on and be indoors with air conditioning! -

So they talked about how there needs to be more to do, and they follow up on that statement by removing a ride? The dark ride might have been....strange....but what's the harm in leaving it open? The operating costs can't possibly be that high. -

^If you can afford it, I would highly recommend a weekend trip to the West Edmonton Mall. It's pretty much it's own city...and has everything you need to keep yourself busy. There was so much stuff we didn't get to do that looked cool: the ice rink, waterpark, paintball arena, lazer tag, go karts, a haunted house, more shops than you could ever imagine, bowling, etc. -

^^The problem is none of the good Six Flags is doing means anything if they can't get the debt restructured. -
Theme Park Review's 2009 Trips Update Thread!
Jew replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I'm sure this announcement is just the first of many to come! I cannot recommend the trips enough!!! If you're interested in going but concerned about the finances, it is still worthwhile for you to contact Robb and Elissa. They might be able to work something out! -
Pour some sugar in your water and you'll have Powerade...

I wish we had time! The mall was seriously so big, there was no way to squeeze everything in. I definitely do want to go back though! -
Realistically, I doubt Cedar Fair will sell any parks besides CGA (and that is still a question mark---but at least that park has an identified potential buyer) in the immediate future. Further down the line, if they can't figure out how to do anything else to lower their debt besides cutting dividends, they may have no other choice but to sell some parks for whatever they can get for them. This seems much more like a ploy to assess the market and put creditors/investors/analysts at ease. "See, we have assets to unload if we need to! Some Random company will pay this much for the park and we can use that money to pay you guys back!"

in flight wifi sounds really cool! I think delta offers it on their md80 fleet... -
Disney always claims themselves as the manufacturers/designers. I believe Maliboomer is the only S&S tower without the S&S logo on the harness for the very same reason.

^Yup. This was a Tuesday night game against the Braves. Prices for the "premium" game are usually go for pretty close to face value on craigslist.
-
^I'm still confused. Now we are talking about homecourt advantage in the playoffs? The Lakers are only 1/2 game ahead of the Cav's for the best record. TWO loses certainly f*cked the Lakers over as much as the one loss to the Clippers did for the Celtics. Not to mention the loses were on the road to two likely playoff opponents. Which is also bad. Since I'm pretty sure playoff games are all "need-to-win." Unless the Lakers, a team already using fatigue as an excuse for those loses, enjoy going 7 games for every playoff series because it is OK to lose on the road in "need-to-win" games for their opponents. So long as they beat the Clippers, right?

^$350 for a pair of tickets+parking pass. Not bad considering the face value is $400/ticket. That's why craigslist is so awesome for tickets.
