I read something awhile back where Fred Grubb said the Raptor has ability to do maneuvers other coasters can't precisely because it wraps around the track instead of sitting on it. He gave the example of the old heartline roll on Maverick. His Raptor track can pull it off because the track can literally be twisted in a straight line causing the outward centrifugal forces to be less intense.

Knott's Network posted a picture of a work permit filed by the park. Demo of Boom, and the Hat Shop, and California Sports and an electrical room is costing $350,000. Obvious I assume the buildings will be simply razed but Boom is clearly being dismantled. I tried to share the pic but Photobucket is being dumb.

What is your next park?

No parks this year. Not even Wild Waves. Saving up for Legoland and Sea World in San Diego next year. Knott's the year after. -
RR wouldn't have been so bad if they had just banked the turns. Not one turn or curve was banked which meant it had to slow down for each one. The track used could have worked just fine but Disney tried to make a quick buck by saving a few bucks rather than actually giving the attraction the attention it deserved. As for the Raptor, I am hating this less and less. The renderings showed the trains with four, two person in-line seating cars. But in this photo the cars looks like a single seat per car and I imagine they could string fifteen or so cars together and it still wouldn't be so long.

So this photo was posted on the Knott's Network Facebook page. All rights to them. It appears that the concrete footings of Boomerang's cobra roll themselves have actually been ground down, leaving the existing concrete slab. Does that mean the slab is staying? If it were going away then why take the time to remove the footings flush to the slab? Just rip the whole thing. Makes you wonder. By the way. I'm looking at the backside of the Calico Mine Ride show building in this photo and it got me thinking. They should put a rock facade on the back of the building similar to what is in the front. It would make the area look like it was along the southern California coastline somewhere and really add to the whole beach boardwalk scene.

Weirdest Things The 'GP' Have Said
WestCoasterKing replied to maliboomer's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
It's almost always girls. After they get on and the train starts moving, and they always start screaming, "I hate you", to whatever friends dragged them on the ride and then they scream, "we're going to die!" One day I had enough and I couldn't help but blurt from three rows back, "Yes little girl, because while you waited in line you watched all trains come back with a bunch of dead people." To which she said, "Hundreds of people die on roller coasters every year, @hole!" And once again I couldn't stop myself. I blurted back, "If you really believe that then why are you at the damn amusement park!? Or the time I was waiting on line for the rapids ride at Silverwood and some guy trying to impress this girl said this was the world's only looping water ride. Come on, dude. We are about to actually board the thing. She will discover how full of it you are in about fifteen minutes. Ugh, GP is do dumb. But alas I used to be one. And there was a time when I dumb things so... -
Yeah sorry. I had my numbers backward. I looked at my pad and switched them up. Oops. An acre is 43,500 square feet. Xcelerator sits on around 81,000 square feet. By comparison Boomerang and Rip Tide sat on about 60,000 square feet. Oh and Xcelerator's queue is all tucked neatly inside the ride's footprint. A lot of rides are this way now as well.

You Might Be A Coaster Nerd If....

Great, and you just gave all the B&M haters a great big weapon. -
With the amount of space Knott's has to work their coaster won't be expensive regardless. Depends on what you consider expensive. Xcelerator sits on a plot of land about 470' by 180' and cost $20 million. Boom and Riptide were on a plot of land about 450' by 150'. BTW, it's interesting to note that the entire ride section of the park is only 1,575' by 1,240'. Some hypers take up more room than that.

No idea if it's country dependent but while they might not know terms regarding forces, airtime, etc. they actually do matter to them. Trust me, the GP thinks a ride is much more fun if it has pops of airtime, forceful turns and fun inversions (of course depends on person). After all, people go on coasters to have fun, not to have bragging rights. Then why is B&M hands down the most popular coaster maker? I thought their rides were dull but ask any GP their favorite ten coasters and most will be B&Ms.
