  1. JJ is back up and running. Construction workers were standing in the rain looking at the spread out pieces of Wonder Woman like people that just unpacked IKEA furniture and laid out all the lettered pieces in piles.
  2. How it is supposed curl around the existing rides should be cool. Opening date for the park is the 29th. The wife and oldest are off to NYC, was thinking about swinging up there for a first ride with the short kid. Figured I would give a call to see if it would be open. I'll shoot an email.
  3. What if they add VR to JJ and each time it gets stuck they switch the feed to a movie while they wait to be rescued?
  4. What he said. I will ride JJ again and maybe with shorter wait times now. Get WW up and running and get dining plan squared away (do the scan your card instead of lugging the bottles around and having to cubby them), do that path with a hand-me-down coaster for 2018. I'm good. I'm not sure I could handle a Mako/ InvadR/ Valravn/ Cobras Curse type hype, construction update, and wait process. What Six Flags' coasters do we not already have clones of? I know we wouldn't be getting KK from Great Adventure but what are those other rides? Ideally a 48" coaster.
  5. Lot looked pretty full today by time left around 4, but the park itself did not seem crowded, weird with the water park not open. Lines didn't get longer until about 2 PM and they put second trains on WIld One and Apocalypse when the ques started to fill which was nice to them responsive. Many rerides and I agree the decals look sharp. VR was not running on Mind Eraser. Finding a place to eat with the dining plan was irritating. Half of the places were closed. My daughter wanted a burger and both grills were closed and Rockets isn't on the plan. WTF? No burgers and no tacos!
  6. When you are a baby, adults throw you slightly in the air and catch you, pick you up with an upsy daisy, 1-2-3 jump and swing you by the hand over curbs. Coasters bring out that same instinctive "Weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee" and giggle that gets harder to find as you get older.
  7. Being short and having to endure the "Are you sure you are going to be tall enough to ride?" taunts from my friends there is satisfaction when the really tall guys are too big to ride. What would be the top five parks for 48" and under coaster riders? (Maybe this belongs in a new thread?) My youngest is stalled at 49". Cheetah Run, Super Duper Looper, and Lochness are probably her top three. She liked El Toro but wasn't up for a reride. As a family I think we like BGW the best. First Knoebels trip set for August.
  8. Baltimore NBC did a little piece on ME VR http://www.wbaltv.com/article/six-flags-america-unveils-mixed-reality-experience/9208737
  9. Cool. Now does that mean new trains? Won't the current set up knock the VR gear off your head?
  10. We are just now thinking the wonky MD weather has settled so waiting to pour concrete makes sense, especially under a tower. Mind Eraser upgrades are not an unreasonable expectation. I know on my surveys it gets poor grades. They can't ignore the data. An Xmas VR with how that area was light up during HitP would give it some run during the summer.
  11. I was all set to trek from MD for a BaySox vs Altoona game this summer just to ride the Dips. I was a little less excited with the reviews. Maybe they will clean it up into something nice... less is more?
  12. I wish they would at least connect the paths from Coyote Creek to behind Roar and out to Superman. I hate having to back track to the Falls. One of the nicest things about the Mardi Gras area is the cut through to Gotham. So, if they could fit the V2 to facilitate that, that would be great.
  13. I know we all have our personal lists and spreadsheets and journals etc... Is there a go to top 100 coaster list that is generally accepted by the TPR community?
  14. From Screamscape: 2018- Launched Coaster - Rumor - (3/14/17) So what does 2018 have in store for Six Flags America? Unfortunately as the park is slowly getting a reputation for getting a lot of "hand me down" rides from other Six Flags parks, our rumor lies along those lines. In this case, our source tells us that a current whisper going around is that the park may be planning to receive a launched coaster to be removed from one of the other Six Flags parks for 2018. The interesting thing is that back in January, we had also heard a rumor that Six Flags Great America may be considering retiring their own V2: Vertical Velocity (Intamin Impulse) coaster and that it would be sent off to another Six Flags park if they opt to close it down early in the later half of this season. Just something to think about, but in the meantime, if anyone spots any unusual survey markings around Six Flags America when it opens for the season, please do report them in to us. Wonder Woman this year and an Intamin Impulse next year? While not a Fury 330 it is two more rides for us. Add it in back in Gotham and open that up for FF and HitP. VR on Mind Eraser and change the cars so your googles or ears don't get knocked off... give away a hot dog for riding Apocalypse... just keep falling forward.
  15. Hard Rock Park. If it was done right, it could have / would... rock. Six Flags New Orleans. From Jazzland to Katrina and present. Just like SFNO, Geuaga Lake would like to visit in each of the eras. But, the title says most. So I will go with Carson City in Catskill NY. No coasters but an old west town in the Catskill Mts. where bandits would hold up the train ride and steal your candy and bubble gum. I would like to go back in time because when I went as a youngster the memories are some of my earliest. It seemed so big even though Google Maps proves it wasn't. I even went as an adult on a date with the woman that would become my wife. The memories still seem surreal. Plus, local Jimmy Fallon went when he was a youngster too.
  16. A bear ate the vinyl roof off my parents' car. Back in my day! We could just drive through the safari! Kids today don't know the excitement.
  17. http://www.wusa9.com/news/local/maryland/bomb-threat-reported-at-six-flags-america/271899888 See something, say something. They followed best practices in dealing with threats. Better safe than sorry. The area was still bouncing back from the Baltimore riots. The park is not in a ghetto. Prince Georges county is one of the most affluent predominantly African-American counties in the country. If you are concerned about sharing Penguin raft with a black family...then maybe pick another park...we won't miss you. There have been a couple of newsworthy fights over the years, but I have not seen any, and major problems have been eliminated by the metal detectors. Some kids horsing around maybe. My own kid got yelled at for running one time two seasons ago, people looked, and we were embarrassed. The only theme park fight I have seen ever was at SF great adventure last year waiting for the Joker which was a totally wild line standing thing out of nowhere. Same day I saw a kid who did not speak English ignore a restricted area sign to hop a gate on Green Lantern to get back to his friends. Way away from from danger but security was all over it in minutes, it was quite reassuring. We were at Kennywood in 2015 for the 4th and someone got hit with a celebratory bullet from the neighborhood. Last August, just a week after we visited Busch Gardens Tampa, a guy grabbed a flamingo from an exhibit and killed it. You are in a place with thousands of people. After the Orlando shootings Disney World dramatically increased their police force. Why not drive further? Why not stop and form your own opinion? Ride superman and catch a glimpse of the Redskins stadium in the distance. Ride Wild One. Hop on the Lasso and catch the Washington monument in the distance?
  18. I've done Discovery Cove twice, Sea World Orlando four times across my life, caught one of the last elephant Ringling shows, and have my tickets for one of the last Ringling shows this year. Having done the Ringling museum in Sarasota the idea of the circus going extinct is sad. Everyone can have their opinions about animal captivity (at the end of the day it's not good but I'm not seeing these animals, or making the memories, or connections without them) but I know there are more pressing issues with humans than with animals. I can only imagine if the resources and time of the SJWs took on hunger and homelessness there would be many more able to enjoy rollercoasters.
  19. The Mutter Museum is far and away the coolest museum ever.
  20. SIx Flags America (Home park) Knoebels Fallsview Waterpark / Marineland Darian Lake Hershey Lake Compounce Six Flags New England Six Flags Great Escape Six Flags Great Adventure Lakemont Park (Bay Sox road game)
  21. CFC- Thanks for the pictures. Looks like a day well spent. Trevor Hamilton- Griffon is a favorite. Love the view over the river after the lift hill. Front row hang is just right. Last 4th of July (Lee Greenwood!) we had no lines and I gave in before the ride did. I rode four times, my 12 year-old went another two, did another together, and she went another three. It's a proud poppa moment when your daughter says, "I'm done eating. Can I get another ride on Griffon while you finish, meet you there? Can I ride again since mom and sister are in restroom? After Loch Ness Monster can I hit Griffon one more time?"
  22. 19. Going to get to Knoebles this summer. Good to have goals in life.
  23. Hello all. This is Misterbrow derived from Meister Brau… long story. I found my way here looking for Wonder Woman updates, and so thanks for those. I am a regular reader of Coaster Buzz, Screamscape, and wdwmagic. Six Flags America is our home park as it is less than 15 miles from our door. We moved down here in 2000, but only visited every few years because of experiences that reinforced the negative reputation that still crops up. Being from NY and comparing the size to SF Great Adventure also did not help. However, my kids finally got over that 48” goal and we graduated from Dutch Wonderland a couple years ago and we could start to enjoy Hershey Park and then gave SFA another shot. The metal detectors at the front gate were at first a turn off but they seem to be effective. And now, sadly, just a part of life. The rethemed Mardi Gras area worked well as an intermediate area (while the music is redundant I like Trombone Shorty), the little one liked the kid areas, and the older one could ride Superman. So after that we grabbed Gold Passes during a flash sale and went a few more times before our actual passes started the following year. We are close enough to eat lunch and ride a few rides and, since parking is already taken care of, we can head in without cost and be back for dinner. Adding HitP and FF we assured ourselves of three visits plus BAF it is a great deal. I even grabbed the $20 all season all park photo pass which works well to text to those friends we bring in. Hit SFGAdv this year too at no cost. Rides? Apocalypse I will ride with no line but is not a favorite Mind Eraser I ride to remind myself why I tend to skip it Round up with it’s 51” helps to keep us with the 49” kid out of that area unless we want to ride... Bumper cars. Cramped and the smell gets kicking in the summer. ? Batwing is a good ride but all the way in the boring back and in the summer I dislike being strapped in and baking ? Capital Railways and Antique cars miss some opportunities to be better ? French Quarter Flyers fit well in this area ? Prop Warehouse can be family fun, until you shoot your wife or kid in the eye. I wish loading the guns was easier. ? Renegade Rapids I skip because I don’t go that way to ride Mind Eraser and hate wet pants when I ride coasters; same for Shipwreck falls. ? Penguin’s Blizzard. The loading area is mind boggling and I swear they put the worst operators there. The ride is OK but the conveyer gets backed up and you can get soaked from the stupid sprinkler. + Bourbon Street Fireball is a super loop that we enjoy. The terror is reserved for hoping my zipped pockets keep my phone safe. + Flying Carousel basic swings but a good location for one last ride and will be a good training ride for the Lasso + Ragin Cajun, again fits that area, the length of the line equals the enjoyment. Walk on and reride or see a long line and be OK to bypass + Riddle Me This is a round up that is well placed on that walk and can be a reride when something is broken down or someone has to use the bathroom + Joker’s Jinx is a solid launch coaster and usually a short line + Superman is a good ride and worth the ride to the park. VR without sound is confusing. + ROAR was much better this year and really good in the cold and dark + Voodoo Drop at 140’ is just enough + Wild One is infinitely rerideable. Rocked in the dark and cold. Love trying to see the Hall house. The Skull Mt. mountain does more for WIld One than Apocalypse. + Zydeco Zinger can slide you around making for family fun if you are squishing a family member… or cute stranger. In general SFA is not a destination park but if you are close or already have a Gold Pass give it a shot. You can spend a chunk of a day, head up the road catch the Bay Sox or have some crabs and be happy. The workers can be hit or miss but then again that is typical in this day and age. It is not Disney World, but, they are the gold standard in customer service. As long as operators snag line jumpers, keep people from restricted areas, get idiots off their phones on the rides, check our restraints, look for a clear platform, and seem to be aware of safety I am fine and that is the norm here. I have been approached numerous times by staff asking if I had any questions and I get a survey after every visit. FF and HitP were hits and it seems things are moving in the right direction. I look forward to the April opening, thank everyone here, and hope to contribute.
