I don't get why everyone says that El Toro is the greatest wooden coaster on earth. When it's really not. There are several wooden coasters out there that are far superior than El Toro. . . I mean, El Toro isn't "bad" but it really isn't the "greatest woodie on earth." That's why it's called an opinion, if you're riding El Toro and you get off and go ah geez *this coaster* and *this coaster* is so much better than El Toro then you're doing it wrong. More and more I think where we personally slot top rides has a lot to do with rather minor things such as when we rode them, who we rode them with, our limits of certain G forces, how much we like theming, and a big one: how well our particular bodies fit into the cars and restraints. But, yes, even if it isn't your favorite woodie I don't see how it isn't in like your top 5 even with the caveat that while you don't like it that you can see why for many it is number one.

Lakemont Park changes

All I see is 4th of July fireworks, holiday lights, and a guy asking where the renovations are. I am not a Facebook person, am I not clicking on something? -
Lakemont Park changes

Any updates about what's going on at Lakemont? -
Rick Howarth has been there since December 2011. http://amusementtoday.com/2011/12/six-flags-america-announces-appointment-of-new-park-president/ BW lift hill sun is seriously worse than walking there. That's where we need a shade structure. DIck's has EZ up tents on sale. They need to buy a thousand of those.

Weirdest Things The 'GP' Have Said
MisterBrow replied to maliboomer's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Why let something that insignificant bother you? I pity you if you ever have to work with the public. O, you would love me. I always put THE in front of things ie: "I watched it on the Netflix." I would not go as far as The El Toro but I would translate it for people as The Toro in my best Ron Burgandy voice. While not a coaster park, but at a zoo we were viewing the Ruddy Ducks which have crazy cool blue bills. The genius behind me, not reading the identification sign which states "known for their blue bills" asked aloud, "Ya thinks they done painted dat duck's beak blue? Dat ain't right if they did." I spent the rest of the day questioning aloud if the flamingos had been sprayed pink and who had to put the stripes on the zebras. -
Good. Draw more people into the water park, I don't go in there. I can wait until next year for dry park addition. Renew my pass? No brainer. They're still coasters in my backyard and I'll get up to Great Adventure at least once and the temptation of the other SF parks is always there once the pass is in hand. Give me the new trains on Mind Eraser and I'm good. Put the Mexican place on the meal plan and I am happy. They are pouring piers in the arena which should mean that they plan on actually using it for something even if it's competitions of some kind. There are those markers that were discussed which should be minor tweaks to the park. That would have made for a better teaser video: The Grim Reaper getting off ME not holding his head, eating a burrito, watching a cheerleading competition, and standing under a shade structure.

Lake Compounce Discussion Thread

Pretty sure we're currently in the opening sequence of Idiocracy. Things are only going to get worse and less safe as our society devolves. With talk of THE ROCK running for president we are indeed starting to live the movie. -
I feel like the sign in the water park nails down that the addition will be in the water park. "Tide" can simply be a word used in the new name. Looking only at the captions our clues are "disappear" and "forever". "Air" just made a poor rhyme for disappear. "1st" could be a clue but 1st of its kind in MD leaves a lot of possibilities. We are always warned that the rainforest is disappearing and when it is gone it is gone forever. ZoomAzon falls predates WW before being rethemed to the Amazon rainforest in 2011.

I moved to Maryland in 2000 and one of the perks is that we have one of the best looking flags. Maryland was split state during the civil war and the red and white sections of the flag were used as the flag of those that were sympathetic to the south. The current combination signifies the reunification of north and south. Solidarity. Flying six American flags is perfect. Not an American flag and six trademarked plain colors. Being an American is like being a family member, no matter what your story, for better or worse, if you are a citizen you are American with the rest of us. Controlled by six governments but now American. Six American flags is perfect.

The Great Escape (TGE) Discussion Thread
MisterBrow replied to Red Benny's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
It's a good question and I am curious too. I could see SFGE (or any other far northern business) just go stars and stripes and be able to say, "Hey, we don't even fly the maple leaf anymore." Safe and reasonable response. It is funny though since six flags is branded under the idea of being under control of six governments. I mean, Texas usually still registers signatures to leave the union at a greater rate than the confederacy. Nobody complains about the Texas flag. All in all they go with six different color flags. ROYGBI... and still the Violet people are offended. An intelligent person asks why is it called six flags, then why don't they acknowledge the six countries, and then there is a meaningful discussion. -
Why remove ZZ? It's a fun ride: sliding back and forth and squishing your under 48" kid. It's my 4th favorite coaster in Mardi Gras. I'm thinking next time I go to DC I will bring my VR googles and watch a POV video from a Larson Loop. Any new addition to the dry park has to be added to Gotham. There's just so much empty space. Maybe THAT'S why the don't plant trees.

In the eyes of local non-enthusiasts that frequent the park, they got new coasters in 2012 and 2014. You can certainly argue that these people might agree with us that those additions are not good (Apocalypse and Rajin Cajun are two of my least favorite coasters), but the majority of those people have absolutely no clue that they were relocated. Only enthusiasts care about this. Nowhere behind closed doors is park management saying "well, enthusiasts know we relocated the last two coasters, so its time we give them a brand new one". I agree, but trying to be hopeful. I was thinking more along the lines of budgeting and planning. I would hope a new coaster would be in their ten year plan. A new coaster should be easier to maintain too. And the maintenance workers say... How about this question: Would catering more to the enthusiasts help to reverse the park's hard to shake reputation? There were not a lot of parks in the five favorite / five bucket list parks thread that the GP don't love. I assume they talk about the park's rep, especially as the SFA executives try to move up the park up the hierarchy within the company.

I'm thinking PBR doesn't get removed. There are not a lot of those White Water spinning rapid rides, when it was built it was the tallest of its kind, water ride where you don't get soaked fills a niche. More importantly we want to add to the back of the park, not take away. Better clue, they replaced wood work this year. Why address that level of upkeep if removal was in the plans? With Twisted Timbers opening the RMC Roar would seem a good response, but they just did some retracking last year and why do that if it was a possibility. A 4D would make sense. It is a safe choice and the park hasn't had a new coaster since 2001. The park only has clones or relocations. I am in agreement with the red and black Harley Quinn theme. Between BW and SM would be tight, that's where they where they unpacked WWloT and so an access point, I think that is also the emergency access for when JJ gets stuck (and the route they would use to remove JJ ), and the transformer. A bathroom there? I would assume there are other utilities. Along the path??? Too much sense. Behind WWlot, along PBR, and in front of the picnic pavilion. It would be easy then to connect the picnic area at that point making a circuit, make the picnic area more entertaining at the foot of the coaster, access to another bathroom, make people say, "Hey, there is a picnic area back here I can book for my group", extends and fills in Gotham. While only DC animated universe: Cloyster Woods as the new name for Oak Grove Picnic Pavillion.
