Cesari's gets a boost in taste being in Knoebels like a hot dog does at a ball park. Tastes like being there. The good pierogis taste like what it feels like being there. I double fist the sour apple and apple cider slushes. Can't choose between them. -
I just finished reading Always Cedar Point: A Memoir of the Midway by H. John Hildebrandt It reads in true memoir style and tone. The author shares times of his 40 years at CP and in the business right on down to the smallest aspects of running a park. Chapters are divided into short sub topics which I liked. Certainly a must read for enthusiasts. Anybody else read it?

Took the kids and met the NY based parents on the 3rd and 4th. Crowds were rather light on the 3rd and heavier on the 4th although the picnic areas and pool had the bulk of the people. Two full days and everyone still left without having ridden or eaten something they planned on checking off their list. Finally played Fascination and was hooked. Finally made it to the pool and, even though it was packed, it was a good cool off- and of course an efficient process. Lifeguards had to pull a guy out after going off the high dive. Kudos. Everything was great. The open admission worked out perfectly for the grandparents. Dad rode everything he wanted with the free retired military coupon book. The only thing close to a negative was on my second ride on the Fliers I was told to keep the snapping under control. Simultaneously proud and embarrassed. The Super 8 in Danville was another story. If you have booked there- cancel. Filthy carpets and dirty sheets and towels. Outlets and AC didn't work. The "Super Start Breakfast" was explained as an "economy breakfast and not a continental breakfast" by the front desk. No beverages. (My eye doctor and car wash have coffee.) Cereal, oatmeal, apples, bread for the toaster. Had to go to McDonalds for breakfast and returned to find a guy "cleaning" our room bypassing the do not disturb sign. Everything on that side on the intersection is boarded up. I guess this place will be next. Maybe try the Best Western across the street. Trip Advisor reviews fell off in April. I never looked. -
All of that plus the faucets don't come out far enough so you have to like touch the sink to even get the water on your hands. Definitely weird. With all of the enthusiasm over new bathrooms, the Golden Tickets definitely need to add abundance and quality of bathrooms as a new annual award. Can they RMC a bathroom? Maybe add VR?

If it is not hooked into regular water lines it makes sense. I think it had the waterless urinals. Push a button for water in the sink. Half sized Xcelerators. The overall small size, like a hallway, is just strange. I walked out thinking it was weird and the first thing my kids said was, "That is a weird bathroom." Don't get me wrong, I'm glad it's there.

Got a call from the Safety Manager, he said they went out and did some trimming. He also said the park president, who is a foot taller than me, rode the ride and was well clear of everything. Wacky issues with three coasters on the same day in June? I'm thinking Eleanor was up to her birthday / death anniversary tricks again.

We headed in on Saturday to finally ride Firebird a few times and hit Macho Nacho. Entry lines at 10:30 were all the way out to the parking lot and along the sidewalk. When we left cars were parking all the way out in the overflow lot beyond the water park. Most of these people must have been in the water park, no coaster lines. Since we could see Firebird wasn't running yet we hopped on RC, WO, and Fireball. We were met with staff explaining that Firebird was down and they were working on it. Too early for dining pass lunch so we headed to SM. Batman was also down. This is where the day became exciting. Right before the last bunny hops I got caught from elbow to wrist with branches. Sitting waiting to get into the station, blood on my shorts, a 6 inch piece of shrubbery on my lap, and leaves sticking out of my forearm. I walked over to the ride operator to tell him and show him the welts all over my arm and he just shrugged. The other ride op says, people have been complaining about that and they kept loading cars, so I handed him the stick. We left our phones in the car so I don't have a picture. Walked up to guest relations and it was swamped so I went into first aid. I received another shrug of the shoulders there and was asked, "So do you want a band-aid?" I said I would like to report this as they are still running the ride. He took my name, address, etc... and finally offered an alcohol pad to clean up. He reads his narrative which ended with "guest sustained a scratch." I said I have a dozen welts and six punctures where I pulled leaves out of my skin and my shoulder is sore from being pulled. Then he gets accusatory with hold on all you didn't say anything about that before. I said you've only taken my contact information. He asks, "Were you riding with your arms up?" I'm thinking to myself have you ever ridden a roller coaster? of course my arms were up (keep in mind that I stand a near 5'4"). We went back to Macho Nacho to eat. One person in front of us and one person after, and they botched the orders. As we finished up I could hear a chipper guy apologizing for Firebird being down so we went over and found that it was a manager. I said, "Is Superman down because someone got hit by a tree? That was me." Long story short he said he would give me call yesterday, still no call today. Overall I feel OK, I probably wouldn't go bowling today. They were even working on the doors of the new restrooms so I didn't even get to do that. Just a debacle. The important information is that they are waiting on a part for Batman again. When I asked if it was related to the part they were waiting for last year he gave a big laugh. Firebird he claimed "woke up grumpy." Tried asking several ways and got that same answer. So, if you were there Saturday, that's why three coasters were down.

Gambled with the holiday weekend and good weather yesterday and headed up from MD to take advantage of our Flash Sale with free upgrade to gold season pass with dining pass with free upgrade to deluxe with unlimited soft drinks cup and free regular parking at any park status. (Not as flashy as DIAMOND LEVEL ELITE MEMBERSHIP) Zero traffic. Arrived earlyish through security and in the "season pass" line at 1015. Our last trip was for HITP and the youngest had finally hit the magic height, so she got rides on Nitro but no KIngda and the line for Metropolis was too long. We headed to Metropolis and there was a comic book thing going on with cosplay people and vendors which was cool. Two quick rides on that and walk on to cyborg and then to Kingda Ka. Adding Woman Woman to that section creates a whole "land". Fluffy fluffy and about a 15 minute wait. Couple of people walking through Flash Pass without bracelets in front of us at the hold point? Kicking myself for not buying the on-ride picture of the soon to be 11 year-old. Zumanjaro and back to KIngda Ka but it was down didn't see it running again. Pork roll sandwich for me, chicken strips and a burger for them. Food runner brought us an extra meal but didn't have enough English to understand us trying to tell her. I hadn't been on the safari in over 20 years and the oldest had never been since we usually just hit coasters. Hour wait but a good ride. It is good as the northeast's answer to the animal kingdom ride in Disney. Bizarro, which the big kid likes. Then to Toro. I still want to love Toro, but don't. Fluffy Fluffy bunnies can't have a bag with cups but cups are OK, defended the fluffy bunnies to a GP in line for the medicine and goo while securing three cups one phone and two keys. About a 35 minute wait there. The coaster is great in overall design but the lap bar clamps into me right under my ribcage and hurts, the oldest has it grab at the hips and we both bruise. I might be done with it, I'm not getting taller. Ice cream fixes everything but then the crowds became evident, we had enough time to our snack during the brief skyway wait. The Skyway speed is like the bumper car speed at Knoebels. Explained again Skull Island is no more to the little one. (But it looks so cool how can it not be a ride?) Fluffy Fluffy onto Nitro. Angry people in line over the wait. 15 minutes later we were off on one of my favorite coasters, just flying. Ignore all of the bottles and bags and cell phones not in fluffy fluffy fluffy. Food service did us in, Johnny Rockets had a roulette window thing going on with many angry people. I've come to the conclusion that, thank god, they don't let the food service staff run the rides. Zero traffic coming back and showering up by 9. Full day with some good rides and a lot of choice.

Coaster inspired baby names
MisterBrow replied to grsupercity's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
grsupercity what are your top three coasters? Your sig says you like the Chance Hyper GTX. So.... how about Chance? The wife and I named our girls Samantha and Melissa. When they were 12 and 8 I started to tell them they were named after Sammy Davis Jr. and Mel Torme. What are the top three choices right now? Maybe we can work this backwards. -

Rodney after Lightning Rod Griffon "Cy"after Cyclone or Wicked Cyclone Apollo after Apollo's Chariot Dolly after Dollywood Rocky after Rocky Mt Construction Group Walter or Claude after B+M Honestly, see what names you can connect to your top three coasters or see if you can connect a coaster to one of your spouses top three choices. -

I made reservations for the Super 8 in Danville. I'm getting the full Knoebels enthusiast experience this summer. -
The multi-tiered membership thing is out of hand. The first two rows of the stunt arena are now reserved for like Diamond elite or something. With the new paint scheme Firebird stands out from the parking lot. I like how it matches Fireball looking from Mardi Gras. Once the new toilet opens, they get those plants in the ground, and if Firebird rides half way decent... I think they finally figured out how to meet our low expectations.
