^^^It is a roller coaster. It is new. It is at a theme park known for roller coasters. People will ride it. I really don't think anyone will see the name and say "I have no clue why this is called The Smiler... Let's skip this one." -

I've never really bought into that rumor because at the end of the day, once a park owns a ride, it isn't in the control of the ride manufacturer how the park chooses to operate, maintain or modify the ride, unless they have some sort of specific contract for those kind of things, which I believe Six Flags handles totally in-house. I'd imagine Six Flags consulted B&M on this conversion, but I can't find any reason to believe that they would need their approval to be able to move forward with this kind of project.

^I'd be surprised if the move wasn't temporary. Michael Aiello's really had a big hand in a lot of the recent projects at Universal Orlando besides HHN, including the Cinematic Spectacular. I am certainly interested to see John Murdy's work here though. I've heard nothing but good things in recent years regarding the West Coast HHN. EDIT: Reading further it seems like they might have been joking...
