Saying there's no difference between hurtling around the turn and leaping down the first drop and crawling around the turn and sliding down the first drop is like saying there's no difference between The Godfather and The Godfather with the first fifteen minutes lopped off...sure, the rest of the ride is the same but the rush of being tossed down that first drop is gone. Okay! I've had it! Unless you've ridden it before and after! You have no right to make opinions! So shut it! It's slightly different, the top of the drop! WOW! The worlds going to end! Don't get me wrong, I'd preffer to have the bit of speed, but it's really no different. If you sit anywhere except for the first 3 cars, it doesn't feel different! -Dainan "Listen to the people who have ridden it. We are all saying the same thing!" Rafferty Oy! Both of you! Calm down! I agree you can't have a REAL opinion unless you ride something for yourself, but you also shouldn't go around telling people to "shut it." While I can "listen" to the people who have ridden it, I'm not going to pass any judgement until I ride again for myself. This reminds me when Disney trimmed California Screamin' and all the Disneyland fanboys told me "Oh, it really doesn't affect the ride at all." And then I rode it and most of the airtime was gone from the bunny hills. Not that I am doubting anyone, but I just won't believe it doesn't affect it until I ride it. --Robb Sorry about my reaction . I'm over protective of my ride...damn I am a GA Fanboy! Anyway, you are 100% right where you won't know unless you ride it. -Dainan "Once again, coming from the Thunder Dolphin fan!" Rafferty

My mom just called me in to the living room to ask me if I knew anything about this! I told her what I knew. She read 7 articles! And she said, "I don't want your sister riding anymore drop towers!" My face and hers went like this . There her favorites. And then I explained to my mom that there were different types and that this is a freak accident (she understood). But the funny part was when she said, "Oh, and it's an Intamin!" -Dainan "I didn't tell her that cable snaps on coasters were normal" Rafferty

Astroland SAVED!
CycloneMan replied to CycloneMan's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Well...the Cyclone is on a seperate lease that has 9 more years left. But when Astroland does close, it's in the city's hands! And don't forget a Tilt-a-Whirl that is still operated manually. Also anyone planning on going to Nathan's while in Coney Island should go to the Nathans.com to print up buy one get one free hot dog coupons. Larry, will you be there next Tuesday for the Cyclone's 80th? -Dainan "I'll be there at 10:30 for the whole Media thing" Rafferty -
I didn't as absolutely, I said there really wasn't a difference! It's only a slowed down lift. Trust us, the ride after that turn around and top of the drop is no different! Also, the guests weren't complaining, the staff were getting reports about some things the train was doing that felt unsafe (I know, the lead op pulled me aside to ask me if something seemed different). GP don't even realize the difference. But I've seen this lift do different speeds to. I've done it once where the lift came to a complete stop before releasing and then I've had it just slow down. But take my word, it's still El Toro -Dainan " " Rafferty

Astroland SAVED!
CycloneMan replied to CycloneMan's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Whoops, sorry for the explaination point. It's a force of habbit. Astroland really is like a stationary carnival minus the Astro Tower, Water Flume and the Cyclone. Though Astroland does have the only Top Spin 2 stationed at a park in the US, which runs a crazy cycle. And the Break Dance never ends! -Dainan "Luckly with what ever happens, the Cyclone will still be around" Rafferty -
Thank you, I really do appreciate it when people say they like what I post. And I agree with you. I didn't believe it when they did it either, but I had to try it for my self. So now you have an excuse to come back over here and ride El Toro again! -Dainan "This coming from the kid who loves Thunder Dolphin" Rafferty
-
I'd have to ride it again to judge for myself, but with what you've described, I don't think I'd rank Toro quite as high as I did before. I just don't believe that with loss of speed going over the first hill it doesn't affect the rest of the ride. --Robb It really doesn't. The major increase of speed happened in the middle of May! The way the rides speed through out the ride now, is how it is intended. Trust me, we were all worried when we first took our rides with the new lift, and we all swept the sweat off our foreheads when it was done. it really doesn't effect the ride at all other than the lift and the turn! -Dainan "And the Rolling Thunder hill is still magnificent" Rafferty

I decided that I was going to make a little video of the footage I had from the first months of SFGAv being opened this year. I hope you guys like the video. But I do have a disclaimer: There is a segment of Batman The Ride that is un edited and I did not meen for that to happen. I got destracted and kept editing and when I was done, I uploaded it online, so that clip is in there. Otherwise, it's a good video! -Dainan "Feedback would be apreciated" Rafferty My video of the new El Toro lift can be found here!
-
HAHA ! Well, I just came over here to post this, but yea. I took this video, and yea I rode it a few times with the lift like this, and no it doesn't effect the ride! The only difference is that you no longer get the pop of air over the top of the lift, and you know longer get thrown into the first drop. The inching around does build the suspence. The reason they slowed it down is due to flexing on the lift, and it was going way too fast through the circut (mostly train B, Hector). It was making the train actually rock and make weird noises and was doing some strange stuff. As enthusiests, we loved it. The ride was the most exteme ever, but with them slowing down the lift, it's back to normal Toro! So it's nothing to be too worked up about! -Dainan "So...yeah, " Rafferty

CycloneMan replied to SharkTums's topic in Random, Random, Random
That sounds terrifying. The same thing happens to my mom and around my grandparents. Everything is fine until they're there and something happens so everything we do and she does is analized as "un-safe" -Dainan "I would of blown up at him" Rafferty -

US Parks vs. Foreign Parks
CycloneMan replied to Skramp's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Well I'll list the foreign parks I've been to in order and put a little description! La Ronde I've been to La Ronde a few times now and each time I love it. It has a unique feel I've never found in a US park. it has theming on a different level and Le Dragon was a really huge suprise to us when we first rode it back in 2003! From the pictures I've seen, this park reminds me of a European Park. Hanayashiki This park was my first Japanese park. And it was very compact and very different. Everything was on buildings, in layers, and surrounded by city. it was definately the most compact park i've ever been to! LaQua This was one of the most bizzare parks ever. It's devided into three sections. The first one being LaQua where the Big-O, Pacari Sweat, and Thunder Dolphin are. it's, once again on different floors but outside! And the center looked like a shoping mall! The second area is Geopolis, where they have the indoor section under a rough and the indoor section. The indoor section reminded me of a Science Center. It had a huge floor and a Jumbo Tron. The last section was Parachute Land that reminded me of Hanayashiki. Tokyo DisneySea Simply amazing, but Disney so it really can't count. Tokyo Disneyland Same as above. Tokyo Tower Yes they had rides on the roof of the tower, but a roof at the bottom. Fuji-Q Highlands Besides it being on Mt Fuji, it felt like being a Six Flags park. Nothing special (except for the view of the summit of Mt Fuji from Fujiyama!) Ueno Park It had a little carnival thingy inside of the park, that once again, was built into layers and was compact. Aqua Stadium Aqua Stadium was our last park...if you can call it that. It was inside a mall, with the Galaxy Express 999, pretty well hidden, but hidden in a corner was a Pirate Ship and all this cool stuff. Aside from Tokyo Disney Resort and Fujikyu, I have found international parks to be completely different than American. Even at LaQua, there was bizzare theming in Geopanic. All the dark rides in Japan were themed and I noticed a trend of walk through spook houses with no actors. All anomatronics. Including The 13 Doors in LaQua, which was single handedly the most amazing walk through ever! -Dainan "That's my view on my list of international parks" Rafferty -
Today's Pictures are from my first Traveling Zoo (and my last...ugh, thank god Lianna does it) Check out my pimped out ride fool! Check out my Leopard Tortoise! -Dainan "Yeah, most recent pictures!" Rafferty
