  1. Great to hear about the low crowd levels on Friday evening. I'll be coming to the park at least one of the 2 next Fridays to take advantage as well. Thanks for the heads up!
  2. ^ I've been to KI a couple times and definitely enjoyed it, but I was there in maybe 1994 and again when Son of Beast still had the loop, so needless to say it's been a looong time and am definitely looking forward to all the great new stuff since then. I will definitely be getting Fastlane for a Haunt Saturday, especially since Prozach and others have mentioned how awesome it is at KI. Never been to SDC though and really look forward to checking it out.
  3. I also remember hearing that the heavier PTC trains put more stress on a ride. When The Boss was new I remember reading somewhere (for whatever reason I think it was our local newspaper, and looking back I'm surprised they included the level of detail) that they were initially having trouble getting the Gerstlauer trains to complete the circuit and put the PTCs from Screamin Eagle on The Boss for media day. If I remember correctly it was said to run very well, but that they couldn't keep PTCs on it because they would cause too much damage from the extra weight. For what it's worth.
  4. Thanks for the trip report! Enjoyable to read and interesting to hear your take on some of the parks I've visited, and even moreso some of the ones I want to visit. I intend to visit KI in October for the Foo Fighters concert on Friday night, and KI on Saturday. I also would like to get to SDC for the first time by the end of the season, and it's always helpful to hear the ride reviews and tidbits relevant to a park visit. Great job!
  5. I've seen kids injure themselves on a couple different occasions jumping the railings in the park part of the Batman queue. They should make passthroughs at the spots where the paths get close enough to do so.
  6. There's a new teaser posted to CP twitter and facebook. It provides no new information and uses some dated footage, but thought you guys might want to check it out.
  7. Pauliemills, welcome! You should read the last 10-20 pages of the sfstl and sdc threads as there is some good discussion on most of those topics, I bet you'll find them interesting!
  8. It would suck to lose highland fling. I like the Schwarzkopf enterprises better than the Huss ones. I get it, but it makes me a little sad to see it will probably go, especially so soon after Rush Street Flyer.
  9. ^Ah yes, completely overlooked that.
  10. I would guess 1870 could have something to do with the year in which the related theming takes place...or however you want to word it.
  11. While that's not the greatest name and I already mentioned the negative association with a previous ride, I am definitely in agreement that a name is really just a name and hardly has any bearing on how much any of us will enjoy the ride. Honestly I was hoping for something along the lines of HawkHawk.
  12. Ah yes, the name of a poor stand-up conversion that didn't last a season before killing a customer, good one to borrow from six flags I guess. If that's the name, I think it sucks.
  13. I was last at CP for halloweekends last season and I definitely noticed a bouncy sensation on GK. It wasn't uncomfortable or anything, but definitely present. It had been mentioned here before and I completely discounted it, as people often say rides are unbearably rough (raptor and rougarou are two examples) which I don't see at all. But I paid attention so I could discount the bouncing talk too, but yeah, it was noticeably bouncy.
  14. I was just calling out the special case that a significant portion of the ride was rebuilt after 1924, that's all.
  15. The only ones I can think of that I've ridden are Wildcat at CP and Doppel Looping(?) at the Canadian National Exhibition years ago. That Doppel Looping was surprisingly intense to 13 year old me; strong positive G's on that thing. And at the time I was pretty startled at the fact that it only had a lap bar, definitely the first inverting coaster I had been on with no otsr.
  16. I'm going to have to go with Magnum as well. One of my favorite rides.
  17. The Beast - 7,359 ft Son of Beast - 7,032 ft Millennium Force - 6,595 ft Desperado - 5,843 ft Mamba - 5,600 ft Mean Streak - 5,427 ft Magnum - 5,106 ft Raging Bull - 5,057 ft The Boss - 5,051 ft I believe thats all the 5,000+ foot coasters in my count.
  18. I would have to guess either Raptor or Batman the ride at Six Flags St. Louis...if I had to guess I'd go Raptor, because I seem to remember my dad getting walk of shamed on it then going to our home park the next year to try fitting in Batman and still couldn't do it.
  19. After seeing that new teaser video, I guess we can confirm another Thunderhawk will be joining the Cedar Fair family... Really though, I guess a name or theme alluding to thunder would make some sense because of the lightning aspect of the Mean Streak logo
  20. I feel like I may be missing something, but this is my 5 oldest: 1. Wild One, SFA (1917) 2. Jackrabbit, Kennywood (1920) 3. Thunderbolt, Kennywood (1924*) 4. Big Dipper, Geauga Lake (1925) 5. Racer, Kennywood (1927)
  21. Not on your life, my Hindu friend. what about us brain dead slobs? You'll all be given cushy jobs
  22. 9 hours is definitely within the drivable distance for me, but I don't mind driving or riding in the car. I agree with Bill though, driving provides you much more flexibility and saves some money, and just simplifies things. I guess if you really think you'll get halfway there and be miserable, I'd fly all the way, but if you think you can handle it, I'd drive.
  23. I got my pass for this year during the sale at the end of the season, it was like 60 bucks for a gold season pass, and that got you in for Frightfest 2016, Holiday in the Park 2016, and all of 2017 season. Best deal I've seen. They ran a similar, but not quite as good deal at the very beginning of the season as well for like 70ish if I remember correctly. But yeah, gold is where it's at for the parking reason.
  24. The only reason to ride Ninja is to get the credit, it stinks on ice. You're right about the part after the MCBR going into the corkscrew, some of the worst headbanging around in my experience, though I haven't ridden it in years. I could see how Screamin' Eagle could be a letdown, but it holds a special place for many of us who grew up riding it. Most of the air is floaty on the way out with the best parts being the big hill(no. 3) and the 2 immediately following the turn around and the last turn. It's a little bumpy, but much more fun at night. The Boss is another ride that benefits from darkness. They retracked and seem to have reprofiled the double down after the first drop this year, killing off some of its intensity. One of my favorite coasters, as I like fast and intense rides, and you're right, SFSTL has a few intense rides for their size. Glad you enjoyed your visit and extra glad you got to get in many rides with the short lines!
