  1. This is probably more what I was trying to convey. I've been on rougher, and it's not like I am one of the people who complains about rides being rough typically. When people say that any B&M in any way is too rough for them, I find it almost laughable. I'm a big fan of some rides people consider too rough to ride, like The Boss. But when there are so many other options, there are better places to spend my time at CP than riding a mediocre, uncomfortable coaster.
  2. I don't mind some roughness on a coaster whatsoever and thoroughly enjoy wood coasters. Maybe I've gotten bad rides or sat in the wrong seat, but I'm pretty sure I at least got a middle row on Blue Streak last time I went to CP. Both of the previous times I went in 2016 and 2013 Blue Streak was a one and done for me. It has that whole punching you in the back thing going on...not a fan. Not nearly the roughest ride I've ever been on or anything, but that jackhammering sort of feeling sucks. It's not exciting enough to be worth the discomfort. Hopefully next time I get a good ride and want to go back for rerides. I do love Magnum though, and have zero complaints at all about Rougarou(or Mantis for that matter). Different rides on different days or seats? Different preferences? I don't know, but that's been my experience the last couple times I went to CP.
  3. Fantastic trip report! I loved all the detail you included along with some great photos. So glad you guys had such a successful trip!
  4. Glad to hear you enjoyed the event so much. Its one I was considering with much hesitation for some of the same reasons you were. Didn't pull the trigger but will definitely give it stronger consideration next year.
  5. ^ It seems to come up in here about every 6 months and just trying to explain why I think this fanboy pipedream ain't effin happening
  6. As cool as it would be for them to use the main lot for park space, I would be surprised to see it happen. The investment to do so would be unbelievable. I know CP has been buying up land on the mainland, but it would take large piece of land that would need all of the improvements necessary like electrical with lighting and water services some level in addition to paving and toll booths. Then there's the cost of the monorail or tram system to get from the lot to the park. And I'm assuming they would want to build out the entirety of the new park space at once, since they would have to move the ticket booths and entry gates I guess they could eliminate all of the main parking and move the ticket booths and gates to the mainland parking area and force everyone to take the tram. I dont see them eliminating all parking in the main lot area though for a number of reasons. Regardless they would want to relocate the entrance to it's new long term location, and then can't just leave a giant swath of asphalt in the front of the park and fill it with rides, landscaping, electric and water service, bathrooms, shops, restaurants etc. gradually. The whole idea just seems so, so, so expensive. Maybe they could do a 2 or 3 level garage and take a portion of the lot or something. But I think there are too many other options to consider before they get into the undertaking of moving most or all of the main parking off the peninsula.
  7. My favorite part is that they plan to have 3 trains and run 2 so when one breaks down they have an extra and can still run 2................. if they're running 3 and one breaks down......they're going to run 2......
  8. I would agree with the last couple posts. They may be temporarily borrowing parts to piece together the 2 trains that bumped, but they will replace whatever needs to be replaced for all 3 trains to operate.
  9. The worst ops I've ever experienced were at Six Flags America about 10 or 11 years ago. I want to say it was like 7 minutes for one train to pull in and pull out. I only even remotely paid attention because of how bad it was, I think my GF at the time and I rode 2 rides and left.
  10. Oh, for sure. Just cool to see the difference. In that old footage the ride is obviously testing as there are people actually on the track(!!!) standing just out of the way, so I'm sure they hadn't gotten everything set the way it ultimately ended up. And yes, the pacing is much better on the new footage compared to the old.
  11. ^^that's cool, didn't know about youtube doubler. Looks like the old video makes it through the first half of the ride faster, while the new one does the second half faster. Were the turns into and out of the brake shed reconfigured and the shed made longer at some point? Or is it just the perspective of the video making the shed seem longer in the newer video?
  12. I went out the the park yesterday to get a ride on Batman backwards, since I won't be able to next weekend and didn't want to miss it. I went to Batman first and got a ride in the middle of the train. Going backwards was kind of disorienting and intense, especially as you're whipped through the corkscrew type inversions. I'm extremely familiar with the layout, so I knew what was coming. I could see it being quite the experience for a first time rider. Going backwards was definitely cool and different, and I'm glad I made the effort to get to it before they turned the cars back around, but I don't think I'd like it to be that way all the time. Next I went to try out the Boss with the new turn. I rode in the back the first time. Great first drop as always, and very fast and intense as usual. The midcourse brakes grabbed some, but didn't entirely stop the train and didn't have too much effect on the second half of the ride. I'm glad it retains almost all of the intensity throughout the second half of the ride. The new turn is definitely more comfortable than the helix was, but I do enjoy a good strong helix and would have preferred if they kept it and retracked or reworked it. Either way the ride experience isn't too diminished and I understand the idea behind making the change. Still my favorite ride in the park. I hit Screamin' Eagle next, and it seems to be running well. You could hear the chain dogs jangling as you went over any of the airtime hills and when we stopped on the brakes the upstop wheels were just spinning and spinning. Still great after all these years and was running fast and loose. I gave The Boss another run on my way to American Thunder, which didn't disappoint. Lastly, I went to get another ride on Batman backwards, hopefully near the front? back? Normally the back. It was closed for whatever reason and I wasn't hanging around to see if it reopened. All said, it was a good pop in visit and I just thought I'd give a short write up of my thoughts. The park looked nice and seemed busier than the station waits on the coasters would have led one to believe. It does seem as though Six Flags is pushing the Membership thing hard. Almost all of the ticket booths were closed in by barriers that said something like "Membership Center". Maybe because I was arriving later in the day they were just using the barriers to force customers towards customer service, which seemed to be the only place to get tickets by the time I got there. Regardless, the membership thing was plastered everywhere around the entry, including having the "membership only" ticket scan area to enter the park. This isn't surprising, as everything that can possibly be moved to a subscription based model is in today's economy. I'll stick with the one time pay season pass for as long as I can.
  13. That's kind of disappointing to hear. The drop out of the mcbr is one of my favorite parts of the ride.
  14. Well, lesson learned! I almost asked in this thread for seat suggestions, and even as we were walking towards mamba I searched really haphazardly to see if I could find suggestions. Not that I didn't enjoy the ride; it was the only one I made the effort to re ride since both of the woodies were closed. Mamba is the only one of the Morgan hypers I've been on, so I'll be sure to give the front seat a go next time I ride one...surely Mamba.
  15. Sounds like I dropped the ball. I considered riding in front the second time, but reverted to my habits of riding in back, partly because there was less of a line and I usually like being pulled over the first drop when they are slowing the lift at the top on rides with a straight drop. I'll have to try the front when I get back to the park. Thanks for the info!
  16. I was at the park this past Sunday and I can echo some of the sentiments above. The park did look noticeably nicer than it did last April when I was there. The floral clock looked good and the Front Street area was very impressive. We stopped and got funnel cake and ice cream and hung out in that area for a bit. I also did take notice of the giant animal topiary sculptures in the Africa section of the park. Along with the new front gate from last year, WOF has made great strides in improving the overall aesthetic of the park. I didn't try out Nordic Chaser, but it did look nice and had decent theming. Prowler was down the entire time we were at the park (1-6), so that was kind of disappointing. And obviously Timberwolf wasn't running either, but the new turn looks like it will be fun and surely improve the overall experience. Aside from those, we were able to get on all of the other coasters, with Spinning Dragons being the only one with really any sort of line. Spinning Dragons was fun, if slow operating, and didn't have any desire to go for a reride. Boomerang was...a boomerang, although the ride experience is definitely improved with the newer style trains. We waited a couple trains to ride in the front on Patriot. It was good, as all B&M inverts are, but it's no Batman or Banshee...one of the weaker of the bunch, but still quite fun nonetheless. The only one we took a reride on was Mamba. Both times we rode in the back, and on the first ride the trip back to the station was very boring, just kind of meandering over the bunny hops. The second trip was much better; I didnt pay any attention, but I'm sure we were on the other train as Jayke mentions above. We got some airtime, nothing fantastic like Magnum or anything, but definitely better than the first time. That second drop is easily my favorite part of the ride. Overall it was an enjoyable visit to the park, and my first real opportunity to use my platinum pass I got in October at King's Island. I'm definitely glad to see this park headed in the right direction, and will look for more opportunities to pair it with trips to see concerts in Kansas City.
  17. My one to go is also Diamondback, but all of the big 4 are very good and the other complementary coasters are solid all the way down the line. I was supposed to write a trip report about my visit for haunt, but being a bit of a tpr amateur I tried typing it in here 2 different times and lost it...maybe I'll get the motivation for doing it one last time...
  18. Last year they worked on the bottom of the first drop and smoothed some of that out and removing the helix and redoing the turn around will eliminate the bumpiest part of the ride. Be sure to let us know what you think! And ride in the back to get ripped down those long straight drops....
  19. ^I'm going to try and make it out for a bit tomorrow after work, if I do I'll get some pics
  20. Good news, gentlemen. I've grown that inch you wanted plus several feet more - Bart Simpson With regards to the resort vs. ride spending: I think for sure there is a greater focus on the resort aspect of the park. They've already been spending lots of money renovating and remodeling Breakers, Express, and now removing Sandcastle and replacing it with the luxury beachfront campsites. All of this while still making major additions to the park itself. I have no idea how capital expenditures actually work for Cedar Point, but it seems like the new attractions drive the demand for resort amenities and upgrades. Whatever the case, keep them coming. I love that there has been so much activity and upgrade on many aspects of the park since at least the installation of Gatekeeper.
  21. Not bad at all! I've only heard good things about the event, and that's obviously a good price for a beer. Especially if you're getting tickets for free!
  22. Count me among those sad to see the helix go. It was a good, strong finish to the ride. It had gotten pretty bumpy, but I still like an intense helix. Oh well I guess.
  23. Cool, good to know. I didn't realize it wasn't during the week. How big are the beers they serve? I was thinking in conjunction with bringing food as well and grilling/microwaving at the cottage. At least you could easily replace one meal plan by bringing some food and doing Brews & BBQ on Friday. Maybe the the other days too, considering 3 days at the park would leave plenty of time to go at a leisurely pace and to go back and prepare food and have some drinks. I wish I could go for that event and do something along those lines, but I don't know if it will work out for me this year.
  24. Annnd then I just read this and now I have instant regrets. Thanks, Andrew... If your plans are still in flux, I would consider what Andrew has brought to light and try to go that week (probably May 16 to 19? if that's what you were originally thinking?). If you book through the CP website it looks like you can stay in a cottage at Lakehouse Point for 45 bucks more than Breakers. You'll all have your own beds, albeit a bunk beds for 2 of you and a futon for another, and you can bring food to grill at your cottage while you have some beers that you brought with you for a buck apiece while. I'm coming up with 164.09 apiece for the cottage itself, and 83.20 per person for 3 full days of tickets (247.29 apiece). If you do 2 days of Brews and BBQ at 20 bucks per day you're at 287.29 apiece, essentially replacing the 2 days of dining pass(68 per person) and 10 dollar beers with Brews and BBQ and food and beer you brought yourself. In fact considering the beer it would probably be considerably cheaper and still gives you the in-park beer chill time. Knowing how much you enjoy KI, if you don't have a platinum pass, you could just do that for yourself instead of spending the 83.20 on your park tickets to CP. Using the discount code for having a season pass brings the cost of the room down 80 bucks, but then it doesn't show the included ticket options. I would have to imagine you should still be able to get the tickets at the reduced rate though. Even if you can't get the reduced price tickets if you use the pass discount, I would imagine the pass would be worth it if you spend 3 days at KI/WoF/wherever else over the course of the season. It will also give you the chance to buy Fastlane Plus for the price of Fastlane, saving you probably 30 bucks apiece on that. I looked pretty extensively at some options the last couple years and thought I'd suggest what I found. And if you are set on KI maybe it's some stuff to consider for next year. Having stayed at Breakers, Sandcastle, and Lighthouse Point before though, I will say I preferred Lighthouse the most, because of the flexibility for sleeping arrangements, having the grill, deck overlooking the lake to chill out, and not having to worry about whether you and your friends may be making too much noise for the rooms on either side of you if you do stay up and have some beers after you get back from the park for the night.
  25. I know it's been a while since the concert but how was it? I tried to buy tickets and was going to come from St. Louis for it but didn't have any luck. Saw them in Cincinnati a week or so later and went to King's Island the following day. Excellent as always!
