Kings Island (KI) Discussion Thread
DavidB replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Last I went was last year this upcoming weekend. Stayed til close and didn't notice any difference, but wasnt really looking for it either. Also wasn't drinking any beer...so that annoyance didn't factor in. Would also be glad to know as I'm trying to get there either this Friday or as part of my trip to CP the last weekend of the season. -

I'm gonna have to agree. Given the option of waiting in the holding area of the burning building or taking the stairs...I'm probably taking the stairs, especially if there's any issues with the elevators in said building that are supposed to evacuate you from the holding area! -

I enjoy good wood coasters on average more than any other type of coaster and I love The Beast and The Boss. I found Racer to be uncomfortable and not particularly exciting at all when I went last year for Haunt. It was probably my least favorite coaster on that visit...or maybe invertigo. It has that "vertical" roughness, jackhammer kinda feeling, that older wooden coasters tend to get. I don't mind lateral roughness at all, but I hate when a ride punches me in the back like Racer did. I didn't pay much attention to what seat we rode in, so maybe I dropped the ball and rode in a wheel seat. And for the record, I think RMC redoing one track of Racer is a cool, if blasphemous, idea. When the RMC Racer stuff came up earlier in the year I definitely thought that at the time. Keep(hopefully retrack) the original experience and offer a new one on the other track, especially if the timing could still allow them to race. I'm really going to try to make it to Haunt this weekend, so if anyone who frequents or has KI as their home park has any recommendations for specific seats on Racer or anything else, I'd love to hear them. Front seat for Beast obviously, and I generally prefer back seat on things like MT and Diamondback, but let me know your favorites! -

Yes! Thank you for pointing this out, because I was going to if you hadn't. I keep seeing people say things like "if you combine firehawk and dinos alive" on various sites. Not at all necessary to view it that way. KI has enough space for like 10 Banshee sized coasters without removing anything. I really hope whatever they build takes advantage of the expansive land available; one of the best things about KI is how the coasters seem so isolated. -

That has me thinking Vortex as well (unless it's Windseeker, for some reason). I have an irrational love of Arrow Megaloopers, so I'm hoping that's just a throwaway line, and not a hint. Windseeker fits that clue as well, and it is close enough to Dinos Alive to probably make a station work for that area with track passing over or around Racer somehow. I doubt remember if those decorations were there last year for haunt or not unfortunately. Aren't the windseekers kinda unreliable as well? -

My guess would be Vortex based on the line "The air is eerily calm." That's a nice sized piece of land for a floorless to keep a "traditional" looper. That seems to me to none the most likely type of B&M. That or maybe a wing. -

I don't have as much experience with the Halloween events as others do; is this basically what King's Island does, only without the separate admission? I didn't really pay any attention when I went last year to anything outside of the best 4 coasters after dark when Haunt had started. Are all of the kids and some family rides closed after they start Haunt? -
Cedar Point (CP) Discussion Thread
DavidB replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I get the feeling that most of us don't truly understand the level of difficulty parks(not just CP) are having staffing parks for the last few years now, myself included. I'm sure Cedar Point's goal isn't to have people waiting in half hour long lines for food then wading though sewage to use the bathroom. The quality and quantity of staffing just doesn't seem to be there for many of these parks, especially during the parts of the season where high school and college is in session. I mean, they were advertising for local custodians and school cooks to work at the park. Most people on this forum should be aware of what sort of experience to expect. Maybe some of the GP will be turned off by park experience they get and crowd levels for certain Halloween events will dwindle over time, but it doesn't seem like we've seen any of that yet. Maybe the result will be less haunts and more staffing at food and rides as time goes on. Personally, I'm fine with decorations, halloween music, fall weather, and night rides. I know plenty of people enjoy the haunts and scare zones too, but if the staffing just isn't there, the park can't do much about it. Anyone else have other thoughts about events like this shifting focus or changing over the coming years as staffing surely continues to be problematic? Solutions? -

Spot on, man. It's so disheartening to see the state of that queue. I understand changing the entry point to be more friendly to guests with disabilities, but the upkeep is just embarrassingly poor. That little grassy area between the switchbacks and the ramps up to the station often seems to be just knee high grass and weeds left to run rampant. Send someone in there with a weed whacker, and YES, do something with the roof! Also the lights in the ramp area have been out or non functional before, so you're standing in darkness at night in that part of the queue. Screamin' Eagle deserves better -

^You're right, that is funny. That commercial really is exactly what you would expect from a six flags ad. It looks like that thing is ready to beat your head to a pulp. -

Instead of Ninja, the ride that was just mentioned in the previous post and which came the season after Jet Scream was removed. -

Hell, at least they are trying to address the repeated complaints about the disgusting bathrooms with no toilet paper and such during one of their busiest periods. It's not like it says they are looking for custodians to assist as ride ops or scare actors...though that second one could work in some cases... -

This is perfectly fine, and while I do enjoy troikas quite a bit, I'm glad the park is getting a new ride rather than a hand me down. The DC themes get a little tiresome as the themed areas are further phased out, but that doesn't change my excitement to try this out. I like enterprises so I'm eager to give my first endeavor a go. -

I like to look at pictures and teasers and try to guess what might be coming or what my ideal addition based on the information given might be. People often act like you're a dumbass if they don't agree with you for some reason, even if it may be a bit of a pipe dream. I really do not understand how people are going to get upset with the park for not installing a ride they think they should get or deserve for some reason though. Especially in this case. As has been mentioned numerous times, they literally announced this announcement yesterday. How are people going to expect that they were going to announce Grandson of Beast or something after the marketing leadup to Cedar Fair's other major projects the last couple years? Much less get pissy about it? Come on. Everyone is hopeful for big projects, or even some meaningful work for Racer, which I suggested could be the case along with others. But they are bringing back a family ride, and that's just fine, it is what it is. It's good for the park and I don't get how anyone is mad about this...ridiculous. Especially to be going after the park about it and not just bitching to other echo chamber enthusiasts. I'm pretty far down on the end the spectrum as far as "enthusiasm" goes, and I'm embarrassed by this. -

^After looking more closely at it, I agree and was going to post the same thing, as kings island drive and the river are both mentioned. This is almost certainly a description of the parcel owned by the park. -

^^I started looking at that and bailed out. I'm somewhat familiar with some of this stuff, but very very minimally through stuff I have to do with building permits for my job. We do decks and screen rooms and stuff like that, so nothing anywhere near on this scale. There is a property parcel viewer for Warren County, OH, so I'll take a look and see if I can make any sense of it, but I'm guessing I won't be able to. There's a ton of information there and I surely won't be able to interpret it correctly, but I'm sure someone on here would have better experience than I. https://webmap.co.warren.oh.us/wcgis/auditor/ This is, if nothing else, interesting to look at. EDIT: And the images are a higher resolution than you can acheive with google maps as best I can tell...also interesting -

^Agreed. It seems unlikely they would make some major announcement with so little advance notice. Definitely interested to see what it is. On another note, is King's Island similar to other parks in that the crowds increase as Haunt goes along? I am thinking of making a trip out the first or second weekend of Haunt and was curious, as when I went Oct. 21 last year it was absolutely packed. -
