Kings Island (KI) Discussion Thread

This. I can't think of many rides that don't have seatbelts at Cedar Fair parks. That's very true. The only rides in the Cedar Fair chain that don't have seat belts and redundant belts are swinging ships, shoot the chute rides, log flumes, flying coasters, and carousels. CF added seatbelts to the Carousel at GL in 2004. Does anyone know if they are still on the Carousel now that it's located at WOF? EDIT: CF also added seatbelts to Grizzly Run in 2004/5. -
GL didn't have any slides like these that are going in to MiA. The only slides at GL that could go elsewhere are the Thunder Falls body and tube slide structure, Liquid Lighting funnel slide and the water fortress. That's it. WWK didn't have much in the slide department. And Thunder Falls was originally added to SFWoA in 2003 as Hurricane Mountain.

Driving from Cleveland to Allentown Saturday with my brother and nephews for Dorney, then spending the night in Drums with some friends, then heading to Knoebels on the way back to Cleveland Sunday. Planning on getting to the park around noon. -

I loved the Dipper, it was an airtime machine for me personally. Simple out and back layout, but I loved it. I think most people just love it for the nostalgia and the age. Being a coaster from the 20's and a John Miller. But to me personally, it was my favorite ride at the park. Even in the hey day of SF?CF ownership with 10 coasters. The CF plans had the hyper on the south side running from approximately Happy Harbor (where thunder falls is now) to approximately the water fortress and back. When the park closed in 2007 a lot of people got a lot of cool things from the offices, many of these friends still work for the industry and CF and that's why they haven't made their way online yet. -

Going to be at the park this Sunday. Was curious for PA residents. Are most Weis stores "participating" stores for the $16 ride ticket booklets? I know I've read on here that the Danville location has them for sure, but that location would take me about 30 mins out of my way. Thanks for the help! -

I worked at this park during the SFO-GL years. And I remember back in 2001 this is EXACTLY what the GM told us during a pre-season employee orientation. I remember sitting there, at 17 and thinking "that's not how it works, that's not how any of this works!" (Forgive me for not using the meme) I couldn't understand how they assumed a semi-destination area containing two parks would pull the same attendance as "3 parks in 1." You just took someones 2-3 day vacation and turned it into a 1 day stop. Especially when most of the animals people would visit for left. A few observations of someone who spent everyday of his summer there from 2000-2005. Six Flags biggest mistake was adding so much too quickly. 5 coasters in 2 years was too much. Space those out and you have 10-12 years of good cap ex to keep people coming back. Then buying Sea World was the second nail in the coffin. These parks complimented each other, driving business. Combining them was a big mistake. CF buying the park was the 3rd nail, I wont go as far to say they bought it to close it, cause that's stupid. But they didn't do anything to improve the park on the dry side. Most SF themeing was lazily removed and not much effort was made to cover it up or replace it. Heck, in 2005 you could still read "Bruce Wayne Foundation" On Dominator's station. It never felt that CF really tried. However, being there in 2004 I knew for 2005 a hyper was on the table (blue prints were in the maintenance shop and I know a former co-worker who still has them!) and management chose to go waterpark with the budget given them. Not sure why they decided they needed a new waterpark less then 5 years after opening a new/updated waterpark but they did (SFO expansion had the Hurricane Harbor update, new wave pool, slides, etc.). This park did not need a NEW waterpark. I feel like if they sold off the sea world property, kept the dry side, and expanded/renovated the existing waterpark this park would still be around today. Replacing some of the older slides from the 70's/80's and Hook's Lagoon with new slides and a new water fortress would have been just as successful as the entire WWK expansion. A lot of bad decisions were made from 1999-2007 and most of it was ego driven and not, in my opinion, thought out from a business perspective. But of course, hindsight is 20/20. -

I would almost guarantee that you will not need a fastlane on Monday with schools back in. Especially if you're planning to stay to park close at 8pm. Schools are back in session and with an 8pm close that's usually a good indicator of slow times. Any school groups there will leave between 5-6pm. The last few hours most rides in the park should be 15 min or less waits. Now do you want to marathon Valravn, MF and Maverick. Sure get the fastlane plus if it's in your budget. But if you're content with a nice relaxing day riding and having fun. I would say go with night rides today and the whole day tomorrow. With that much time and this time of year you should be fine. -

When I worked for a park, one of the biggest complaints we received was "I paid $XX.XX for my kid to get in and they're too small for everything!" I know, not the parks problem right? Well, this helps alleviate that. It's a good PR move and brings a lot of good will to families with small children. I wouldn't be surprised if this rolls out to more parks after a test year at KD. Most stroller age kids get in free anyways. This just expands that a little it now. They will still get cash from families buying food, merch, playing games, etc. It's kinda a no brainer. But I do wonder where the cut off is. My nephew is 7 but isn't even 46" yet, while his step brother who is 9 is almost 60". Do parents have to supply a birth certificate? Honor system? If a 5 year old is 48" are they still required to buy a regular jr pass? -

Say it with me... MARKETING. You created the illusion yourself. There were plenty people pointing out that Snoopy was in each tease which probably meant Planet Snoopy. The beer goggles some of you had one could only see a coaster. -

How was any of the advertising misleading? Did I miss any of them saying "Snooping around our new for 2017 coaster!"? It was "misleading" because you made yourself think it was OBVIOUSLY a new coaster or RMC Hurler. It's called good PR and marketing that got people to tune in for the announcement. Unlike what a lot of you think the park should add. They do plenty of market research to determine what goes into these parks based off the budget allowed. They've determined that KD doesn't need a new coaster or the ROI does not justify it at the moment. There is a reason that CF as a chain continues to set records for attendance and per-cap spending and it's not because they want to make fanboy coaster enthusiasts happy. We do not drive their business. Families with children who spend tons of cash do. That's why this is a great addition! **Geauga Lake was my home park, I feel no sympathy that you all let yourselves get so hyped for nothing! -

^^That's the old Hook's Lagoon water structure from old GL. NOT the one currently at WWK. That structure was removed in 2000-ish for the SF conversion. This is the current structure. -

The poolside bar is currently off between the mat racer and the current tube/body slides. This new tower looks to be where the go karts were. And the new kiddie area seems to be where the current kiddie area is as well as where the go karts where. Magnum will separate the new tower and the new kiddie area. That's what I can tell from the 2 pics. -

Looks like you'll never step foot in there cause Point will always operate it as a second gate for extended stays. -

Here's hoping they just sell WWK to someone who would like to operate the waterpark instead of closing it. It really doesn't compete with Soak City. WWK is the local water park where as Soak City is more of the "destination" water park, mainly used to extend stays on Point as a second gate. -

Under Ohio labor laws, seasonal employees are NOT entitled to overtime. Even though summers are a few months they are still considered seasonal employees and there for no overtime is paid. Source: I'm a former CF employee in Ohio for 5 seasons and never once received OT pay for hours worked, and I regularly put in 70+ hour weeks. -

I think a lot of locals assumed the Carolina Harbor type expansion was the logical 2017 capex after 4 straight years of coasters (Pipe Scream and Rougarou included). Especially after the removal of the go karts and that other ride that escapes me from Challenge Park. Now the big question is... will Mean Streak be a 2017 project or a 2018 project. Decker was quoted in a recent interview that the next 3 years will be pretty serious. Source: http://www.avclub.com/article/what-happens-roller-coaster-once-its-over-hill-239738 Having two large projects in one season is not out of the realm of possibility. -

I am one to usually not get involved with trying to decipher "clues" all enthusiasts see in teases from the parks. But maybe the SplinterCat theme finds its way to point for this ride. Showing a man taking an axe to the ride, Splintercats come from logging folklore. Could have been a red herring thrown out from a different park! Anyways, looking forward to whatever is announced as it'll be a better ride then whats currently there. My hopes are for RMC.
