Kings Island (KI) Discussion Thread
WolfBobs replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Ironically I don't typically enjoy a day at my homepark alone, but I am more than comfortable hoping on a plane or driving to some new park and spending the day by myself. Probably cause I'm exploring and enjoying everything a new to me park has to offer while at CP or KI (two closest "homeparks") I feel that I have been there and done it all so I prefer company. But there is absolutely nothing wrong with enjoying a park by yourself. True freedom is when you become comfortable enough to go to movie theaters alone. -

Ride looks great! I love the unique support structure. I know it's a product of the park it's in and meant to save space, but I would love to see these "thick boy" supports used on other future coasters. I just think they're fun. -

^For sure, and in my opinion they should. Because we are at a point now that we can trust humans to do the right thing and use common sense... But, the key take away is they will not be forced to at the time being as long as they are following more "universal" guidelines like mask usage enforcement, social distancing, etc. -

Gov Dewine just lifted a lot of the attendance restrictions for outdoor events, including allowing festivals again. Now the guidance is just follow common sense and wear a mask... so we're doomed. Anywho, this means the parks should not have to worry about attendance restrictions this summer unless cases trend in a way that forces the restrictions to return. -
Lost Island Waterpark planning Theme Park
WolfBobs replied to diggerg56's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I am very ignorant to Polynesian culture/history so my initial assessment may be a stretch, but it is very similar. It'll be interesting to see how it all develops and matures as the park is built. -
Lost Island Waterpark planning Theme Park
WolfBobs replied to diggerg56's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Soooo.. This park will be themed to Avatar: The Last Airbender without being themed to Avatar: TLA. Interesting but not a bad idea, use a popular idea and not pay for the IP. Curious if this causes any copyright issues in the future. Either way, still super excited to see this park being built. Not often we get to see small independent parks built from the ground up these days. Hoping lots of success and growth. -

Maybe I missed it. But I'm surprised no one on here mentioned some of the new merch available in the online shop. Mainly this... https://cedarpointonlineshop.com/products/sky-ride-wooden-cutout -
Sadly, If Knott's didn't use Xcelerator's extended downtime a few years ago waiting on the catch car repairs to re-paint the ride I doubt that they would've even considered a year long closure to re-paint with almost zero revenue coming in. But agreed, hopefully there will be a few park beautification projects done that will surprise a lot of guests when gates re-open at parks throughout the country (and Canada).

Same experience in 2019 just with my brother and his now ex-wife. She was the reason we didn't stop. I was planning to go in 2020, starting making trip plans (pre-covid in February) and kept checking the calendar for their opening date and then the announced closure. siiiigh

CP loves to troll enthusiasts. I love that the local news picked it up. -
Dueling Dragons at Universal would be mine. I lived in Tampa from 2006-2009. I held off going to the park so I could go when Wizarding World opened. I ended up moving back to Ohio in 2009 before Wizarding World opened. Never found the time to go and then BOOM ride was removed.

You only missed breaking down on the ride and being evacuated...

Assuming Dollywood/SDC passes are valid at all Herschend properties? This makes a pass for appealing to Ohio residents (me) that's for sure. Being a majority partner and not just managing the park I hope this means reasonable cap ex spending in the future. Like others mentioned there is always the fear of the park just turning into a Wild Adventures and never really see major (for enthusiasts) investment. They didn't promise too much in their statement outside of expanded events and operating days. As long as cinnamon bread shows up I guess it can't be all that bad. Probably safe to assume the awesome out of state ticket deal is probably toast. That's a bummer, 2 days and unlimited soft drinks for $30 was a steal.

I could see a 4D, Raptor clone, small GG woodie or Gerstlauer Infinity being added. Small investments that would probably mean a quick ROI and a marketable rapid expansion. None of which I would complain about. Niagara is already a tourist destination, they really wouldn't have much in the way of true competition. Locals will go to CW and Darian anyways, but year round international tourists are already flocking to this area. I'm surprised it's taking this long to truly grow this park. -

Really looking forward to when a POV is available. This ride is just so... unique for being a tried and true coaster style. Hoping some American parks can learn a lesson here. You're never really "out of space" if you're creative and willing to pay for it. -

At the end of the day, I'm sure B&M (or any manufacturer for that matter) has options that parks can pick and choose from. And they will build whatever a park wants and will pay for. I'm sure if Grona Lund wanted specialized 2 abreast trains to help squeeze the ride into the tight space B&M would've happily obliged for the right price. -

I can see CP opening late due to staffing concerns once again. If there is little to no foreign help coming in again it just makes sense from a business stand point to reduce operating days before most universities and schools are out. If they're able to reopen all the parks they won't even have the small pool of full-timers from elsewhere in the chain to help out. Does it suck for us? Yep, but 2021 will most likely be this odd recovery year for most parks. Things will semi-normalize but at the same time we will see some changes remain in effect like reduction of hours or operating days. I think the lasting effects of Covid, including travel bans, etc effecting park operations will last longer then we expect sadly. -
Not planning on doing much travel until vaccinated. But... Ideal: Trip back to Florida and Texas. Would also like to do a New England road trip. Ironically I have never been to a park in that area further north than Coney Island. I would also love to get out to Indiana Beach for the first time and support it's comeback. Reality: Probably will stick with Ohio parks this coming summer. Unless things really start to trend in the right direction.

Most of the year the park is filled with food trucks while a good portion of the parks food stands are closed. Not sure if this would go over well just again due to how far away CP is from population centers. I for one would have no interest driving in from Cleveland to go to a food truck even where a lot of the trucks are from Cleveland anyway. I think it's more likely CP extends the season a few weeks into November and see how it goes first. I also think you would need a lot of infrastructure improvements, something like Harmony Hall or Festhaus built before any true December event can be taken seriously. Plus staffing is always the elephant in the room for CP. Even on a small scale event. -

I'd prefer the rides Kennywood is removing if Indiana Beach wants to focus on classic rides. -

Thinking about it logically it doesn't surprise me that CF is focusing these events at the parks that missed their summer seasons completely. To me it's a nice gesture to the pass holders who missed their season. Maybe this has nothing to do with it and I am thinking to much but to me it makes sense. Plus KD, Carowinds and CW are all 8 or less hours from KI. Make the weekend trip and support a park that may need it more than KI.
