  1. I'm curious. It seems like you are arguing that a work contract cannot exist because the rides weren't all designed together. Why can't the work contract simply be: over the next X years, we anticipate installing Z rides. We'd like to contract you to work on those. It says nothing about what rides or when, simply putting Company A on the books for the future. The discount wouldn't be for the structure, it would be for the contractor's time. And it may only be a $10k "discount" so that is irrelevant. Why wouldn't you want to book a contractor if you know they are good?
  2. The difference being the local population is much greater. CP and SC are not near high population areas. Combined gates work well when you get people that want to go to one or the other. Cedar Point is basically a "captive audience" so it makes sense that the gates are separate.
  3. Well, they do have the Europe version...
  4. I should go back and find out which movies from 2016 I used already. I feel like I may start repeating myself. The Angry Birds Movie (2016)
  5. Geauga Lake (pre-SFO) had me spoiled. I was often counting to 20 without getting out of the ride.
  6. And the reason Fast Lane is a bad thing. Those lines give you a break between rides so you don't scramble your brains. I suffered scrambled brains at Dorney Park during an August visit years ago. Apparently it's a bad idea to alternate between Steel Force and Talon without proper hydration while it's nearly 100°F outside.
  7. So, can we volunteer for evac drills?
  8. You know, all the rollercoasters in RCT are the same. You just arrange the pieces in a different order.
  9. I really hope those trees survive the new entrance...
  10. As I already used Zootopia, and I'm sticking to my 2016 list, I will be substituting a number. 10 Cloverfield Lane
  11. Witch (2016)
  12. Looks like they are doing some smaller scale installation work, like sensors and cameras and lighting.
  13. Man, I'm getting slim on 'T' titles for 2016 Trolls (2016)
  14. I guarantee you more than one person used that element way before NL2.
  15. STR didn't operate correctly from day 1. It was supposed to complete the course nearly twice as fast as it ended up being. The boats were weighted poorly. And the slow meander had basically nothing going for it. While Cedar Point doesn't have the elevation changes, the basic flume rides at Hershey and Dorney leave a lot to be expected from a park like CP. Heck, I'd take the flume from Waldameer over Shoot the Rapids. It's just so slow and boring.
  16. I'm glad to head that. I have an interest in seeing Hail Caesar but haven't heard very much about it. (I've been working in the business long enough to ignore the critics.)
  17. So, I got distracted and kinda forgot about this. Anyways... Race (2016)
  18. Bummer. It was a very fitting end-credits scene. Obviously not critical to the plot (as I haven't seen the film), but it was fun nonetheless.
  19. Did you stay until the end of the credits?
  20. I'm going to continue the echoing of a desire for a "real" flume ride.
  21. This. The "bottom" surface of the spine is painted grey. See below:
  22. What about here? http://www.cc.com/video-clips/ih7e3j/futurama-drunk-water
  23. Well, if you remember the rate at which the train slows to a "stop" then you don't need as much steel.
  24. Anticipation. The slow approach and dive are designed together. Without that slow approach, you get a generic drop, something that you see on any coaster and not a dive coaster.
  25. A straight drop that you creep towards slowly, that you can see coming from a mile away? After already getting to do that once, only it was bigger and better the first time? Double downs are great because suddenly you're feeling airtime when you're not expecting to. Surprises are what makes rides fun. Yes, because the anticipation is still there. You are thinking of rides from a very narrow perspective. Try making the ride thrilling for as many people as possible. And you already glossed over the design from a stop, allow for velocity statement. A dive coaster will have wildly varying speed approaching the midcourse. As a designer, you want to eliminate/control as many variables as possible.
