Cedar Point (CP) Discussion Thread
DILinator replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I mean, almost EVERY amusement park makes a pretty big deal out of major Anniversaries. Just because they "make a big deal" out of it, doesn't mean that a new coaster is coming though. My perspective on this issue, is that the people saying parks care about Anniversaries are right, because objectively, provably, they are. But the people saying parks aren't in the habit of celebrating said Anniversaries with big new coasters or additions are also right, because, again, objectively, provably, they are. The truth is in the nuance, as it often is. As far as CP in concerned though, I believed, and still believe, a new coaster is coming in 2021 (or pushed back to 2022), because other than that brief period after Maverick, their investment strategy my entire life (over 40 years of evidential proof) has been regular, large, capital investments. What constitutes large varies, but from my coaster "Spidey Sense" (and that sense was pretty damn right about SGGAdv this year!), as well as various things I've seen and heard, I do see another coaster at CP before too long, and I do think initially the plan was to sync it up with the second year of their 150th celebration, though that may have been more circumstantial than anything. -
The Best Paramount Rides

I wasn't a big fan of TR:TR, because I love wild Huss Top Spins, and TR was far from wild, and as for the whole "themed" element of it, I felt like the queue, and area surrounding the ride, was a lot better than the execution on the actual ride itself. I do still wish it had been given a longer life though, as it was better than nothing, which is what's there now. -

Yeah, at first I thought the upgrade, and extension of the passes was a pretty good perk, but as this has played out, I'm just not sure any of that really matters to me anymore, in the grand scheme of things. Especially since I'm at a different level of Membership than my kids are already. I just had my latest dues taken out today, which was especially rough, since we drove right past a shuttered SFGAm yesterday, and couldn't go and use what I've already paid for. I'll give it another month, see how things go, and decide whether pausing is the better option going forward from July on. -

I think the term "Safety (or Security) Theater", is what you're referring to. -
I'll be interested in seeing how long all of this is in place for. I wasn't planning to go to WDW until sometime during Feb-Apr of 2021, but if they're still doing all this, I'll probably just pass on the Orlando area mega parks again (Disney, Universal.) My older kids love Fun Spot, Sea World, and Busch Gardens more anyway, and my youngest still has plenty of time to get to see the Magic Kingdom someday!

I would certainly hope they're not breaking up groups, especially families. I haven't seen it specifically addressed anywhere yet, but for me and my crew, if we're not sitting together, we're probably not going. The whole point of going together is being together, so hopefully parks aren't intending to split families up.

That's my go-to "money seat" on MF as well! Front season is awesome, for sure, but a near-constant 30 minute extra wait for it isn't worth it to me. First seat of that last car is where it's at for me! -

Regarding getting a refund on SF Memberships, I don't think it's a fair judgement to write off these ladies and their concerns as being emblematic of being "Karens." I bought 4 Memberships last year, for me and my three older kids, and I've seriously considered whether I want to refund them lately. If it was just me, I'd let it slide, not care, and consider it a donation to the stability of the park chain. For four, however, that adds up, and is a hefty sum to be dishing out, without any return on the investment, if we don't end up getting any use out of them this year as a result of all this. It's sad, as I'd like to support Six Flags, but I also am not wealthy enough to write off money that ultimately serves no purpose. This is all a completely logical, and reasonable stance, and opinion. Holding that perspective doesn't make me a "Karen", and doesn't make me "entitled", or any other negative word people throw around to try and shame those that don't hold their same viewpoint. I think it's sad we live in a time where society has become so divisive, pitting person against person, promoting public shaming, and where even trying to enjoy a lifelong hobby like roller coasters often leads into getting bogged down with negativity, judgement, and name calling. I still hold out hope to visit some SF parks this year, perhaps even SFStL. But at the moment, the feasibility of that is very much up in the air, and especially for people like myself, where going to parks is a family affair, it's not as simple of an issue as I think a lot of non-family enthusiasts tend to think it is. Walk a mile in my shoes (or the shoes of the ladies from the article), and then we'll see what your perspective on this issue is... -

Dang! Now I'm bummed that none of the American parks' re-opening plans involve disinfectant shooting drones! -

^Oh, absolutely! Heck, even Leviathan was done well, without being too extensive, to fit in both with the area and the theme. I've always been impressed with the Diamondback area at KI as well. Orion does look very "Cedar Point-ish" in its use of expansive concrete, and bare bones attempt at a theme. Given the space available, and the theming potential, it's a little disappointing, but not at all surprising. Also, it doesn't make the ride less thrilling, to be clear. It also looking very visually appealing, towering above the entrance, and area, like that! -

It all looks sharp, and nice, but also looks like what I'd expect a coaster and area that is "themed" at CF to look like. -
As somebody who's been a mental health worker for 22 years now, and has extensive hands-on experience with actual mental illness, I can assure you, the people displaying "mental illness" are not likely the ones you're referring to. I've said this elsewhere in response to this topic, and I'll say it here. It's not up to you, anybody on TPR, a rando on the internet in general, a neighbor, or anybody at Six Flags, or any other amusement park, to determine what is, or is not a valid medical problem for another individual. You (speaking collectively in the sense of "the royal we") don't get to decide that for somebody else, and if you are trying to, then you are the one who is exhibiting anti-social, narcissistic, and other mentally ill tendencies. Just saying...

It's the little things like this that amuse me these days. Thanks for that! This certainly has never been my experience on MF. Of course, I didn't got to CP last year, so I can't speak to how it was running. Still, MF and rough have never been words I've put together in the same sentence - until now. Personally, I don't see the need for new trains for MF, or TTD. Magnum? Sure. But not those two Intamins. I've seen some people suggest that this could be a new style of train for Iron Dragon, and personally, I feel that makes a lot more sense. When I first saw the edge of the blueprint, my thought went to something hanging from track versus on top of it (I've seen S&S Axis trains mentioned, which would certainly jazz up an aging ride.) I also think whatever train improvements we see announced, were the original TBA plans from earlier, for 2020, that were announced recently to be delayed until 2021. Whether this means the original 2021 plans, whatever they may be (I've maintained a new coaster for a while, and stand by that), remains to be seen... -

Got 2 bricks and 4 tickets to the VIP Opening Day on the 26th for my kids and me! As coasterbill alluded to above, Indiana Beach was not the park I expected to be my first of 2020, especially when I thought they were closed forever not too long ago. But 2020 is indeed a wacky year, and no, certainly not boring! -

I don't see 2020 as the year I finally make it out to this park, but I'm excited to see what they have in store for 2021, and hopefully I'll make it out that way next year! As for never riding Dragon, I am one who will never lose sleep over missing out on riding an old looper, especially one with a reputation for being as rough as Dragon. I too agree that a custom RMC Raptor similar to Jersey Devil would look great there in Dragon's old spot! -

I'm anxious to get an update regarding Holiwood Nights, as the last they've stated they're shooting for it being in August. That shouldn't be an issue, with things getting going in June and July respectively, but it'd be nice to nail down a date. I'm all paid up, and excited to take my kids there for their first time! -
