  1. I find it a little hard to believe he's really going to show everything, but here's hoping. He could at least show what's been cut out, seeing as that wouldn't count as spoiling it for anybody since no one else will experience it.
  2. That video has my morbid fascination in over drive. I thought I understood what Mckamey was all about, forcing people into extreme situations like being locked in coffins, being bound and gagged, etc, but I'm in the end, nothing you could classify as genuine torture. But it seems they crossed over into new territory this year, pushing the "pain" aspect way way way too far. I never got the impression that if you fight back you'd be stone-cold beaten, and actually treated like a POW. I can't help but believe McKamey when he said he tried something new and made a mistake. I may be reading too much into this, but on his facebook he says there's going to be fewer tours than ever this year, mostly abridged 2-3 hour versions, and blames it on DJ gigs, but I can't help but wonder if he scared himself this year, seeing how much he was actually traumatizing people, and wants to give it a rest. I mean, for a grown man to be crying when he realizes it's OVER, I can't imagine that was really the reaction he was going for. It's all the stuff that we're not allowed to hear about that has me curious. He keeps talking about a contraption, that every time he was put in it it got worse, and that's really what broke him. Every time the guy alludes to it the sound cuts out, and McKamey tries to convince him to keep going by promising not to put him in it again. Eating worms, simulated drowning, we know about all that stuff. But at some point, it HAS to come out what the hell that "contraption" is.
  3. I'm a little bit surprised by some of the reactions to this. Some people enjoy putting themselves in extreme situations to test their own boundaries, no different from trying something like skydiving. Maybe it's to see what you're really made out of, maybe it's just for bragging rights. Regardless, if it wasn't difficult or genuinely frightening, the draw wouldn't be there. The man is providing a service, and I don't see why that's perverse or wrong. EDIT: Of course, now having seen the video, it's really stupid to have people quitting because they physically can't take any more. Obviously after a certain point hypothermia sets in and that's it, the experience is over. The challenge should be more mental, not physical. EDIT2: Ok so, it HAS to come out at some point what the hell happened... the curiosity is just too much. Clearly, something did not go as planned.
  4. Hydra has 1 train with brand new restraints and seats, and one with old, and very ugly/moldy seats and restraints. Those will most likely be replaced this winter. Also, as a ride, here's my opinion. I find Hydra to be smoother than Bizzaro at Sfga but its more of a boring ride than Bizzaro as well. That's my opinion. Could the different trains possibly account for the varying reports in roughness? When I rode two weekends ago it had a couple spots that were the roughest, and I mean THE ROUGHEST, spots I've ever felt on any B&M. And this is far from the first time I've experienced that on this ride. So either there's a good train and a bad train or people just aren't paying attention. Other than the roughness, I've decided it's really not such a bad coaster. Not the best but no floorless is the best and at least it's got a pretty unique layout.
  5. So you want so many people to boycott Revolution for its OTSRs that SFMM would remove it due to its unpopularity? I wasn't serious with my original post, but this made me cringe. You seriously think that magic mountain would answer a boycott on a ride because of it's restraint system by removing the ride!? What kind of A$$ backwards logic is that? The idea is to improve the service not get rid of it. Especially when the ride is a staple in roller coaster history and makes for a beautiful sight when you enter the park. I can see them removing something like Scream or Green Lantern due to popularity issues. But I can't imagine ANY park removing ANY ride because people are vocal about it's freaking restraint system. I love you. Um, if ridership goes down, the ride gets removed. That's... that's generally how it works. Nobody is paying to go on the ride, your boycott and whatever reason you have for it would mean nothing to them. The best way to enact change would be to continue riding the ride, and write them emails every time you go, implying that you care about the ride and that you and your kids (it doesn't matter if you have them, lie) hate the restraints so much they're in danger of losing you as a customer. The more emails like this they receive, the more likely they are to listen. Ok, I don't know if this is actually the best strategy, but it's what I'd do anyway.
  6. This is getting out of hand. Both inverts are clones, i.e. not unique, not everybody thinks Intamin first gens are the greatest thing since sliced bread (and they are in fact outdated in every meaning of the word), and we're talking about Dorney, not other parks. People are allowed to have whatever opinion they want, the insults are not called for. Personally I think Dorney does deserve better. Have you seen the area around Demon Drop? It's gorgeous! They generally do a really good job with landscaping and upkeep, so I'd like to see them get something original and special. But that doesn't mean I'm not plenty thankful for what they do have. Possessed is actually a great ride, I enjoy it every time I go. Hydra seriously needs some TLC though.
  7. I hit my head on the headrest as well, during the Stengel dive. You can see they only padded a relatively small area in the middle and left the sides bare plastic (which, for the record, is extremely dumb). Still enjoyed it though, just not as much as I was hoping.
  8. I am extremely curious to see how this ride turns out. Also, the only thing the logo's missing is a hammer and sickle.
  9. Seriously, what the hell happened to Hydra??? I feel like this question needs answering. It was incredibly smooth when it opened. Every floorless I've ridden has at least a little rattle, but I would not call what Hydra has a "rattle", more like a serious maintenance problem. It doesn't ride like any B&M I've been on, more like an old Arrow or Vekoma. The height/speed stats are very modest, so there's no reason I can think of for why it would have gotten this bad.
  10. I actually sent Knoebels an email asking if there was any way they could save the Tumble Bug and Devil's Den. I never got a response, not that I was expecting one particularly, but I figured the more they hear about it, the better. But I must say, what you say here doesn't sound like Knoebels at all. I mean it's true they have the campground and a couple residential homes actually sitting on the property, but still, they have two traditionally tracked wooden coasters, which are already arguably the loudest amusement park rides in existence, plus not one, not two, but THREE rides with vehicles that each have their own noisy gasoline-fueled motors (boats, bumper boats, antique cars), not to mention the flyers which also run on a gas motor, and the Satellite ride isn't what you'd call "quiet", plus the unbelievably loud lift hill for Black Diamond... let's just say I've never gotten the impression Knoebels is too concerned with how loud their rides are. How loud could one little Tumble Bug possibly be?
  11. It was talked about a little a page or two back. I agree, I think it will be the ride's biggest defining moment, mainly for its uniqueness. I doubt it will feel like a "stall" the same way Goliath's does due to how short it is, looks to have more in common with the "sort of upside down" moment on Outlaw Run, but I can't wait to try it first hand. Especially going through the wood structure, should be amazing.
  12. I mean, I like Green Lantern, but I also like Demon Drop and I still think relocating it was a terrible idea. No more outdated 80s/90s rides plz k thnx.
  13. There is no equation that includes the elements "Dorney" and "stand-up" that equals a happy conclusion.
  14. There's no way Dorney is getting Mantis. Mantis is gigantic, there's no where to put it. If someone wants to whip out google maps and prove me wrong they're welcome to, but I don't think I am. They'd have to remove something major. Mantis is BIG.
  15. I'm only responding because you asked me a question, so I'll answer it. I care. And if you think I'm the only one who's pointed this out then you haven't been reading very carefully. There was a lot of dead space in the track they DID utilize, nothing about the track getting bulldozed would've made it harder to use. I find it interesting that this thread for a long time has been the most concentrated source of Six Flags bashing on the entire forum. Now we're seeing a project with obvious squandered potential and, for some reason, most people seem to be willing to give them a pass. It is in fact possible to like what you're getting and be happy, AND recognize that it could've been so much more. It's not an either/or. EDIT: Although most people are also being very pessimistic about the operations of this ride. I guess that's where the SF bashing comes back in.
  16. ^That's definitely another way to look at it, though I still suspect they could have kept up the pacing and intensity while still keeping it a double out-and-back (errr quadruple out-and-back?). But on the bright side, another thing no one's pointed out is if you really fly up the second lift like it shows in the video, it probably won't be nearly as much of a pace killer as it might seem (you'll be halfway up it before you even slow down). Assuming they don't slow the top of it way down for dueling purposes. No way to know till it opens.
  17. ^I highly doubt the decision of ride length was left up to RMC. SF just cheaped out, they got their inversions and new elements to market the ride and spent half as much as if they'd used the entire layout. Same reason Full Throttle has nothing to the layout but a launch to get it through the loop and a launch to get it back to the station. I hate sounding so negative, I do think it's going to be a great ride. I just feel like we need to give a nod to reality here.
  18. Shortened yes, but not so drastically. Rattler lost a lot just by losing that ridiculous never-ending helix, but it still occupies the same space that the helix occupied. It's not like a whole section of the original layout is just missing. Also notice the train flying over halfway up the second lift hill. Lots of speed not being used.
  19. Could've made a longer ride that still didn't have any dead space. It's not irrelevant because it demonstrates how much of the structure they're bulldozing, that could've been used for more ride. Almost half the ride is straight-up being demolished. Every other RMC remake has used almost the entire original footprint, and if they'd done that here, then either they could've kept it a normal racing coaster, where you get one continuous experience with no lift hill in the middle, or they could've combined the tracks and made it one of the longest coasters in the world. It's still going to be a huge improvement, no question. Obviously better than not doing the refurb at all. Just trying to clarify the issue a little for you.
  20. Just get a lap in on Thunderbolt, the three bunny hops are worth the cash alone if you like airtime (some of the strongest in the state). They say revisions are coming but honestly, having ridden it, I just do not see it getting much better. If it was some simple thing with the cars that needs to be fixed you'd think they wouldn't have to wait for the off season. It's nice to be optimistic, but I wouldn't say it's worth putting off, because you never know, it might even be worse next year. Keep your head away from the headrest and you'll have a good time, unless you're really sensitive. Also be sure to do the front row on Steeplechase, it's actually a lot of fun and quite smooth. Unless you count credits I would strongly recommend skipping the volare and doing Zenobio (awesome ride) or one of the other flats instead. Soarin Eagle is the most bafflingly awful coaster I've ever ridden. In fact, maybe you should ride it just for the experience... just know what you're paying for, it's violently, terrifyingly rough. That plus you're literally lying down in a prone position (not sitting in a chair that's been tipped over), which hurts your stomach and your hip bones (if you're bony like me), and it doesn't feel like you're strapped in so you're holding on for dear life... the whole ordeal was rather traumatizing. The wonder wheel and Spook a Rama are both historic attractions that are absolute must-dos. Honestly, for me they were the best parts of the visit. The owners have really put their hearts into the place, no one is more deserving of your money. Also, it's right there, and not any more expensive than Luna Park, so no point in skipping it. Google maps is your best guide, gives very accurate arrival times. It's a pretty long haul, longer then I expected given it's a subway. An hour sounds about right.
  21. Both sides of Colossus = 8,650 feet. Both sides of Twisted Colossus = 4,990 feet. With two lift hills the ride could have been much longer. Or if they kept the two sides separate you could've ended up with two average-sized RMCs.
  22. Yeah that's pretty dumb, I guess people just want another reason to rag on the NJ state government. As if another reason was needed.
  23. Don't worry, their rides are reportedly very intense. I believe the point of the "no high g inversions", assuming it's true, is you're limited in how strongly you can support a track with wood when the train is running underneath it. You need a lot of bracing if the train's going to be pushing up hard on the track from below, and obviously the support can't come from directly beneath it. (Notice how on steel coasters, the individual support beams are all much thicker.) As long as you're not talking about an inversion, their elements can be as high G as they want. Also, count me among those who wouldn't be upset if RMC never attempted a vertical loop. I mean, do we SERIOUSLY need more of those things???
  24. Does anyone else think the craziest moment of airtime on this ride looks like it'll be that hill towards the end of the blue side where it dives underneath the green side right before entering the second lift? The shaping of it reminds me of Toro's rolling thunder hill, PLUS it's outwardly banked. It looks absolutely batshit bonkers.
  25. 1993 backwards has nothing to do with a ring of fire. When did he say it had anything to do with a ring of fire? I think his point was that Six Flags came pretty close to saying flat-out that Namtab was coming (via the clues, because obviously 1993 had nothing to do with what's thus far been announced). I would like to experience it but honestly, if it doesn't come, I wouldn't be THAT disappointed. I've read nothing but bad things about it, head banging/whiplash/nausea etc.
