Kolmården Discussion Thread

This is why I avoid reviews on google maps like the plague. Not very many people think, "I had a very pleasant and satisfying experience at that diner, I think I'll go give them a good review on the internet!" -

Are people complaining about getting a giga coaster? It's freaking B&M, what were you expecting? I'd be happy to have this ride come to a park near me, and I wouldn't be disappointed in the layout because IT'S B&M. At least it looks a lot better than Leviathan, looks like the layout is aimed more for sustained speed. What's the point in being disappointed in B&M at this point? Their rides are what they are and nothing more. Though to the ones being more negative, I sympathize... I already learned in the Holiday World thread what happens on this forum to those who dare to go against majority opinion. -
Congratulations Six Flags, you've done the impossible: having people hope that your new ride stays closed the rest of its opening season. You know what, I'm gonna throw this out there: was Zumanjaro really that good an addition? It's a low-capacity, high intensity thrill ride that replaced a high-capacity family ride. It had to go in a rather remote, awkward location in the park. A shorter but higher-capacity drop tower could've gone in a much smarter, more central area, and a family ride could've gone in RT's spot, which would make sense especially considering it sits between Ka and Toro. I haven't been on it yet, and I am excited at the idea of getting to ride the world's tallest drop tower, but if the world's tallest sky screamer was any indication I won't be any more scared at 400 feet than I am at 200 feet, and I'm just wondering if Zumanjaro was really the smartest choice they could've made for the future of the park.

You thought the restraints actually hurt worse than the Skyrush restraints? Personally I thought they were a huge improvement. In any case, it's really a shame that whoever designed the cars was clearly not up to the task. The layout is great, but the cars make it rougher than an SLC. I still enjoyed the ride a lot but was hugely disappointed in the roughness. But is anyone really surprised given they also made that horrid flying coaster sitting right next door? Talk about a death trap! But on a more positive note, how about that new Spook-A-Rama?? I loved the crap out of that thing, if it didn't cost an arm and a leg I would've ridden it over and over. They did such a great job with the renovation, it's easily my second favorite dark ride I've ridden (second only to Knoebels). To anyone who hasn't been recently, make sure you don't miss it.

EXACTLY. The cost is meaningless to us, we have no idea what they're including in that price. For all we know the building is going to have bathroom facilities and a new employee rec room. It's fine to say you're disappointed in whatever they're building, but going back and forth about the price is just pointless. We know exactly what we're getting, if there were any other exciting features they probably would've been included in the press release. I'm not even expecting an indoor queue with this, probably just an uncovered outdoor cattle pen like they did with Skyrush and Fahrenheit. -
Knoebels Discussion Thread

I finally took the time to do the bumper boats when I went last Saturday. Worst ride all day, the line took soooooo long, and the boats were almost impossible to steer and belched exhaust in my face. And the water looked like I was back at the Coney Island beach. I will not miss this ride at all. -
Right, but this is what you've got to think about. One HUGE track is a *LOT* of track to have to maintain (even if it's less maintenance than a traditional wood coaster.) Two separate tracks means in 10 years they can still be running one while they do work on the other. Do we honestly think that SFMM is going to be able to maintain a ride with 8,000+ feet of track? I wasn't aware iron horse track really required any maintenance at all. But to answer your question, this being Six Flags I'd fully expect them to make a massive investment for the short term attendance boost, without any thought at all to how they'll maintain it or if the state will even allow them to run it as planned.

Combining the tracks would make it the world's longest coaster, wouldn't it? Seems like a very attractive record to hold, my bet is that's what they go with. Even if they kept it as two separate tracks it's not like they'd actually race them, this is Six Flags we're talking about. What would be the point? EDIT: Do we even have any iron-clad proof this is getting converted or is everybody just guessing?

Getting the wing coaster trains is an interesting idea, though those wing seats would be rough as hell. I doubt that's possible of course. The inverting top hat idea is also unlikely, but I would personally hate to see that happen. As long as it's still the tallest, I think you deserve to be upright when you reach that moment. I know the ejector airtime hill idea is extremely unlikely but I'd still love to see it happen. It wouldn't change the ride's footprint, and it would make the ride from a one-trick pony into a two-trick pony. Conversely, they could also make it the world's tallest vertical loop (though that wouldn't be as much fun). Physics question: couldn't the world's tallest airtime hill also hold the record for the single longest sustained moment of airtime?

The "Pleasant/Unpleasant Surprise" Thread

They actually seemed to me like a big improvement over Skyrush's design. Distributed the force over a wider area so they didn't dig into your thighs nearly as much. Intamin could learn a thing or two from them. But yes, bumpiness was quite bad. It's interesting how the opinions on the restraints are so different. I haven't ridden it but from the pictures I saw as well as a few comments, I also thought they were an improved version of skyrush's as they did exactly what those failed to do: have a big area of contact. But then I heard some people complaining so I don't know. That's exactly what they are. I have no idea what anybody would complain about. The black shoulder straps are so loose it's like they're not even there. The only thing I can think of is the seat and bar are both hard plastic, no cushioning, so I guess for people with very sensitive heinies they'd prefer more padding. Although I will say that everybody's body is shaped differently, and maybe for larger people there's a problem I don't know about. For me, they were *perfection*. -

Reese's Xtreme Cup Challenge YES. Freaking terrible ride. That's why I'm relieved the new thing is a spinning coaster in a box. How could they possibly f*ck that up? -

^^How anybody is complaining about Thunderbolt's restraints is completely beyond me. EASILY the most comfortable restraints I've ever felt on a coaster with airtime that strong. I wish all the Intamin coasters, Skyrush, I305, Maverick and all the ones with that style of OTSR, could get them. Tight, yeah, if they weren't tight you'd go flying into the Atlantic. Anyway, I wouldn't say TB was "awful", just mildly disappointing. Given the layout I was expecting a top 10 or 15 ride, and it was simply too rough to rank that high. I'd ride it again, no question, and enjoy it when I do. -

^I didn't see any problem with the layout of Thunderbolt at all, and the restraints were great, no problem there either. I believe the problem was 100% the cars tracking like sh!t. Like there was an inch of clearance between the guide wheels and the track, or something. Just super bumpy the whole way through. Huge disappointment for me as well.
