^That's awesome! I'm totally jealous. As for the third park, I think we're leaning towards Kennywood actually (thanks to Boldikus for the recommendation and awesome TR). It'll be a bit easier on the budget, divide up the driving time on the leg out to Ohio (coming from northern VA), and we'll have another chance for night rides on Phantom's Revenge which looks like something we'd really enjoy. We're not water park people so I think we might run out of things to do at Kentucky Kingdom after six hours or so, but Kennywood seems like there's a lot of unique, small park stuff we won't get at the massive Cedar Fair parks that would more than keep us occupied for the day. I really want to do a Kentucky Kingdom/Holiday World trip at some point though. It's on the agenda.

I think the Motel 6 was one of the options were looking at. Thanks for the input! Awesome, thank you! I love tips like these because I'd have no idea otherwise. I'll keep this in mind! I had checked the website before and I was keeping it in the back of my mind as an option. I don't remember if they require you to be 21 to check in (we're both 18 which has been pointed out as being a potentials issue with booking hotels) but for the dates I plugged in (peak season mid July) it's looking to bottom out around $65/night which is unfortunately no cheaper than some of the motels were looking at that offer free breakfast. Maybe I'm looking at the wrong place? For two people 17+ for July 13-15 (three nights) the cheapest cabin came up as $65/night. Thanks for the suggestion though, I'll take a second look before we book. Edit: that's for the smallest cabin. I don't think we're up for tent camping this trip but I'm sure it would be dirt cheap. Thanks for the tips guys, keep em coming!

Same here. These rides are so much fun. If it's even moderately comparable to Cedar Point's HUSS version I think I'll enjoy it more than about half of the coasters at Kings Dominion, and that's not a knock on their collection. It's just that good. -

We have done this the last two years. Spending the day at Kings makes the drive up to Cedar very very long and tiring. This year we are not doing Kings at all and just doing two days at Cedar, much better coasters and a great deal less driving. Thanks for the input, but I've already got most of our trip planned out. I created a trip planning thread not long ago, so if anyone has some more advice is appreciate it! I haven't booked anything yet but I intend to in the next week or so. http://www.themeparkreview.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=71454 -
Probably because SFNE's is built on Twister's (top spin) old pad and foundation, and the other parks have to do a bit more to get the site ready, just a guess. You really just ave to figure out a nice flat spot to park the ride. I know you're not a troll because you make legitimate posts in general but when it comes to super loops and saying the name "Lightning Rod" correctly you just really don't give a f*ck, do you?

Can anyone confirm that the setup of the platinum pass permits entrance to multiple parks in a day though? Have any of you done it before? I know that theoretically I *could* but am I actually allowed to? -

Oh lol yes I know you can't do both entirely in one day, I'm not stupid. After a full day at Kings Island leading up to two days at Cedar Point I'm considering a morning at KI, travel midday, and evening/night at Cedar Point. Thanks though. -

Sorry for the off-topic question, but for trip-planning purposes, can you visit Kings Island and Cedar Point (or any two CF parks for that matter) in the same day with a Platinum pass? I couldn't find anything about it on the site. I want to say the answer is no (one admission/day) but confirmation would be good. -

Looks like it's pretty much finalized now. Kings Dominion in March and random visits throughout the summer Kennywood, Kings Island and Cedar Point in July (six days total) Busch Gardens Tampa and SeaWorld Orlando in December (nice surprise vacation) Hopefully I'll find a time for either a Dorney/Hershey/Great Adventure trip, but it's not set in stone. -

^Funny you mention that about Raptor. My first time to Cedar Point in 2013 (when I wasn't really an enthusiast, just it was just convenient to stop at the park) I waited over an hour for Raptor in the 90 degree heat only to have a major breakdown forcing us to leave the line. My brother and I ended up referring to the ride as "Craptor" the rest of the day until we could snag a ride on it where it made us completely shut up and be a little more formal -

Do you need a few minutes alone?! Who the hell made those into emojis? You're the only person I've ever seen use them but I feel like I see it weekly. -
Nobody will have any idea until an official animation is released and RMC provides some info. The prices also aren't precisely just the cost of the material/manufacture of the steel... the reason B&M coasters are so ridiculously expensive is because there's essentially a 100% chance the ride won't be severely flawed or defective and will run every single day it needs to. The reason the first RMC projects were $10 million or cheaper was because they were a new-ish company and had everything to prove. That time has apparently expired and RMC charges SF "full" price for each project. The point is, "full" price is determined by the manufacturer. If RMC coasters remain in such high demand they can charge whatever they want for them and not relay the cost-savings to the customer. Why would they need to if parks are going to purchase whether they're $10 million or $30 million? For this reason there's really no way to know how much material they actually save unless RMC were to release a comparison of the amount of material used and its cost for each individual project and the cost to the customer (which they don't do).

No one except "you know who" says anything is confirmed...just looking likely. Yes, I am sure they cut a deal to make it cheaper...but it's still an expensive job. Way moreso than the small electric bill on a largely unused building. I doubt after 9 years of vacancy with plenty of other demolition crews come and gone (as recently as 2013/2014 with RT) that they would take it down for no reason. I'm 99% sure they have plans for Old Country in the next year or two. Context clues point to a new coaster in the area, with only Premier and RMC being likely candidates. I do think it is very possible IF the park is to receive an RMC, that the Raptor design could be added instead of the T-Rex. Since it will be a prototype, I am not sure RMC or the park would go balls-first for the prototype. Yeah that's exactly why I said that it's pretty clear the park is going to do something with the area in the future. I never said they're removing it just for cost-saving purposes, I just don't think it's right to jump the gun right now and say it's a 2017 (or even 2018) all-steel RMC coaster. The Joker went vertical like two weeks ago... let's take it one step at a time here.
-
I think it's pretty clear Great Adventure has plans to do something with Old Country, it's just really pushing it to say that demolishing an old station confirms it's a T-rex. They've probably been planning to re-open the section at some point for a number of years now and are just waiting for the right time. Say they were able to cut a deal with the construction company demolishing the other structures for the Joker to get rid of the Chiller's station, so why not? It very likely has nothing to do with a T-rex coaster in 2017 though. And ^^ B&M didn't change what elements they use on their coasters, they actually do way, way more unique stuff than they used to. It's just engineered to be lighter on the forces in recent years, so I have no idea where you got that from.
-
Someone refresh my memory, I haven't been to the park since 2012, but is Old country in use at all anymore? Last I recall the park ended at Dark Knight and while the pathway existed there was no reason to go around the corner to where Chiller and Autobahn used to be. Are Garden of Eatin' and those horrible cabanas still in use? They're all closed off to the public except for specific days of the operating season and during Holiday in the Park when the path through Old Country was used as a walkthrough. I couldn't make the drive up to the park this winter to check out the event so I'm not one to say what could or couldn't be seen by the public.
-
That's a hell of a leap to make just because they demolished a mostly unused coaster station while they already had a crew in the park demolishing other unused and useless buildings. I was thinking the same thing. Just because an unused building gets demolished doesn't instantly mean the park is getting a new coaster. When has SF ever spent money to demo something in one of their parks just for the hell of it? Like um never!!! The RMC concept was shown in a SFGADv survey, RMC started the concept has be bought, RMC comes out with new coaster type and two parks SFGADv/SFMM starts quietly deconstruction of building that's been sitting around for years unused my bad if people around here can't add things up that's obvious Thats exactly it though--they're already tearing down two other structures for the Joker, so they very well could've negotiated this while in the process. Sources at GAH (again, very reliable) say they had to pay small electric fees to keep the building standing each year, so they were paying to keep a structure up for almost a decade that was used sparingly during Fright Fest. They might actually be saving money by tearing it down.

What is your next park?

The Joker won't be operating in March. Just a heads up. So... not hype? -
According to 100% reputable sources over at GAH, the station was demolished over a month ago and the pictures are only surfacing now. It sounds like this had to do with simply removing a building that wasn't in use and very well could have nothing to do with a new attraction in 2017. Why would they lay gravel if they're just going to level the plot for footers?

Definitely go BGW over SFA, but if you're doing Cedar Point and Kings Island you could get a Platinum pass and do Kings Dominion instead. It's a great park and worth a visit.
