Holiday World (HW) Discussion Thread
Hilltopper39 replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
^ I would assume that some sort of overhaul of the themeing is in order for the ride, so maybe they'll add some spitting Giraffe's on the pre-lift section, and an evil animatronic giraffe on the lift platform itself that terrorizes riders on the way up the tower! -
Holiday World (HW) Discussion Thread

^^^I love water rides but I HATE getting completely soaked in street cothers then having to walk around a park all day with wet socks and soggy britches, so moving Giraffe's Plunge exclusively to Splashin Safari is genius move in my opinion! -

Wow, the experience at Animators palate looks truly amazing, is it the same on all of the Disney ships or just the two newer boats? -
Holiday World (HW) Discussion Thread
Hilltopper39 replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
So one of the best waterpark in America is adding four more slides and more capacity? Holiday World wins again! I also love to see them re-theme Pilgrims Plunge and add it exclusively to Splashin Safari, I don't know why more "water parks" don't include theme park style water rides (log flumes, rapids, splash battles, chute the chutes) in their lineups, seem like a perfect fit that Holiday World has figured out! If your reading this, congrats on the announcements Paula, and good luck preparing for what looks to be a fantastic 2013! -
The pecan rub is great on pork, I used it again on a Boston Butt this weekend, but I haven't gotten around to trying it on anything else. Might try it on a chicken one of these days, and it is sweet enough that I could it see it working fairly well on Salmon, might have to try some smoked salmon with Pecan rub as well!

I'd say that the Patriots being 4-3 with loses to Seattle and Arizona is a bit of a surprise, for a team that seemed like a lock to win the division and make a deep playoff run they have some serious weaknesses. I still think they'll get it together and win the AFC East but don't know if they're the Super Bowl contender they once were. -
^I saw on the HHN Orlando Facebook Page this weekend that Saturday was at capacity sometime around noon and the face book page was asking people that didn't currently hold a ticket for that night to pick a different night, no thank you. Part of my problem with the Orlando event is that it seems like the popularity of it has grown drastically over the years even though the overall quality of the event has kind of fallen off. Hollywood far and away looks like a better event, and I hear that the Bill and Ted show is better there every year recently here too.

TPR Cruises the Disney Fantasy!
Hilltopper39 replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
^What about for younger kids, like under 2 or 3? Is it free for them? While on that topic, and forgive me if this is the incorrect forum to pose this question, but did you guys ever sail with Kidtums when she was that age and was it a god or bad experience? My daughter is currently a month old, and my wife and I were thinking that in a year or two a cruise might be a decent vacation option with a child that young and were wondering if kids were free up to a certain age? -

^Yeah, the food looks fantastic. I"m really excited to do a Disney Cruise one of these days on one of their newer ships, looks like a really good time. Does anyone happen to know up to what age kids can cruise for free on the Disney ships? -

The Ravens might be done for the year,Ray Lewis is more important to that team than everyone thinks. -

Great Report Chuck, and by great I mean very well done report of some awful looking parks! I love that Amusement Devices, ride safety passed sign haha. -
All three undefeated teams from the Big East still play each other, so if someone does run the table they could potentially have wins over two top 5-15 teams late in the season, and that might be enough to slide into one of the top spots of the BCS rankings. Cincinatti beat Va. Tech, Louisville beat North Carolina and Kentucky, and Rutgers beat Arkansas, I realize none of those wins are all that attractive but the Big East has beaten teams from other BCS conferences which is worth something in the polls. As much as I would hate to see Louisville play for the BCS Championship, if they go undefeated from a BCS conference, no matter how bad the conference is that year, then they should get the bid over any 1 loss team.

Has anything been announced for the old sky way location? I don't recall hearing anything specific, not even any crazy aquatrax drop tower rumors? Also, does anyone with some inside info know if they Utilidoor to any parts of the New Fantasyland Section, or was it not really necessary since the section is at the very back of the park as is? The only reason I ask is that it looks like the 7 Dwarfs Coaster is kind of stuck right in the middle of the section without any visible backstage access, which is a bit unusual for attractions at Disney parks. *Edit, now that I think about it, other than the Center pieces at each park and maybe Big Thunder Mountain via the river boat, are there any other attractions at Disney that are completely visible from 360 degrees like The 7 Dwarfs Coaster will be?

If I had a team that I was a huge fan of, the Giants would be the one team in the NFL that I wouldn't want my team playing. I think they are good enough to beat anyone in the league, anywhere, anytime, and there aren't a whole lot of other teams in the NFL in that same category. Yeah they might go 10-6 and somehow lose the division to Washington or something, but come playoff time, I don't want to see them. -
I wouldn't be totally surprised if either Louisville, Cincinnati, or Rutgers won out and remained undefeated, I know all three have yet to play each other but that conference is weak enough that one of those teams has good shot at being undefeated. I'm secretly pulling for a Notre Dame, Alabama BCS Title game, just to see Notre Dame get beat by 40.

That report stunk, needs more pictures (my best attempt at a backhanded compliment). The site for the 7 Dwarfes mine ride looks larger than I previously thought it was, maybe it will be decent after all. The whole thing does look like a fantastic addition that I'm now kind of excited about seeing (was never interested previously). Looking forward to seeing some reports of the Be our Guest Dining Experience, should be fantastic.

^I would argue that even with the swinging and floorlessopen ride vehicle you could still design a ride with "close calls", look how close B&M is able incorporate different set pieces in some of their Wing Riders. You have to remember that the Arrow suspended ride system was designed in the mid 80s/ early 90s, design technology has come a long long ways since then.
-
^Yeah, I'm kind of surprised that no modern ride companies have attempted to design a "new" version of the Ultra Twister concept. I would think that with modern technology that concept would be fairly simple to re-create with more success than the originals. I could imagine a lot of cool applications for compact installations, maybe even enclose the experience with some additional themeing. A "new" ultra twister has S&S written all over it, so if you're reading this S&S engineers GET TO IT!

Stand-Up Coasters
Hilltopper39 replied to 11slataus's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
^I agree, but your missing my point, I'm just saying that if B&M were to make a train that was an approved alternative to a Standup that could be operated on existing stand up tracks then there might be a market for it. Besides, 95% of the normal park guests probably wouldn't notice nor care if one coaster in the park was a floorless and one was a sitdown. If SFGADV could rebrand Green Lantern and market as a new ride with all new trains I'm sure it would sell tickets and people would still line up to ride it, and doubt very many would complain that it's too similar to Bizarro. -
The Official iPhone Discussion thread
Hilltopper39 replied to robbalvey's topic in Random, Random, Random
I mentioned this on my facebook page Sunday but thought I'd share it here, but over the course of the last weekend I used the Apple Maps app to navigate a trip though rural low service areas of Florida, Georgia, and Alabama and the thing worked turn by turn without a single problem and got me to and from all 4 destinations (and through a few tricky confusing back roads). So the Maps App isn't that big of a deal in my opinion, it works just fine. Did anyone see the SNL sketch about the iphone 5? Pretty funny stuff.
