Track Spottings!
ZeroGravity55 replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
^ I didn't even notice that! I'm pretty sure that is either giga or dive coaster track. Somebody who knows more might be able to shed some light on which one it is. I'll say this, I think we need to be patient here, because I don't think the plant is done with all of their track yet. There was picture a few pages back that showed a ton of track that was sitting out that has yet to get painted yet. -

^ I thought he was talking about all the blue supports that had came out since the last round of pictures. Anyways, has you've mentioned, the teal has been there for awhile. -

^ All I've seen in those photos are blue supports for what looks like the a transfer track. I've not seen anything that looks like blue track. It could go with the yellow or the red. It could even maybe be for another color of track we haven't seen yet. Somebody really needs to go by there the week of the 24th, because you should really be able to tell if HW is really getting a B&M then. -

To me, it has to be something the HW region hasn't seen before. That marks off invert, hyper, stand-up(if you're counting when Chang was at KK), and maybe wing rider(if you consider Dollywood to be in HW's region). I personally think that a coaster similar to Kumba (maybe launched) would be the best choice. I believe there was a pic that surfaced a few years ago, that showed Dan Koch and somebody else on the upper management team riding Cheetah Hunt at BG Tampa. It is possible that they also road Kumba and really liked the ride experience. Dan's not in charge anymore, so obviously plans could have changed. Now this is very far fetched, but I vaguely remember reading somewhere that one of Will Koch's favorite parks was BG Tampa. Don't hold me to that as I don't remember where I read that at, but maybe that could indicate that they're going with one B&M models at BG Tampa? I don't know, but I'm just throwing that out there. -

^ Not painted yet. I believe that is primer. Looks like it was getting ready to go into painting based on the chains it is hanging from. If you look, the bottom of those chains are a red/orange and as you go up, the chain links start to turn teal. -

^ Timberliner trains for The Voyage. Not a ride, but it was project that was ultimately a failure seeing the Gravity Group could never deliver them trains good enough to run on The Voyage during a three year period in which HW gave them every opportunity to get them running. -

I'm no track expert, but this looks like giga track. -

I believe you visited HW a day before I did. Glad to hear The Voyage was running well, seeing it was closed all day when I visited the next day. I actually have a gut feeling that the whole area where Pilgrims Plunge used to be is going to be completely redone to cater to the new ride next year. Thanks for sharing the photos! -

^ I had a hard time believing it too, but after I thought about it, it started to make sense. A park who has had two of their projects over the past 5 years not deliver, goes with arguably the most reliable coaster manufacturer in the business to design and build their first major steel coaster. Say what you want about B&M, but they always deliver a reliable ride, whether it is a forceless piece of crap or crazy intense balls out roller coaster. Even if it is B&M's first launched coaster, they have the technology available to make it their most reliable coaster to date. -

For those pictures posted on the last page, I don't think they're supports for any type of coaster. If that was the part that went into the footers, there should have been a plate with holes in it to connect the bottom of support to the bolts coming out of the footers. If it was to connect to the track, that is the weirdest connector that I've ever saw. -

^ From my understanding, there is only one steel plant that makes B&M's track and it is in Ohio. If you checkout The Mysterious Yellow B&M Thread, you'll find that those creepy roller coaster enthusiast who drive by and take pictures were at it again and posted even more pictures on the thread. They found four different colors of track. Two of which have a known destination, and the other two remain mysterious. So there is possibility about an idea you didn't mention where both Holiday World and Carowinds will be getting B&M's. The colors of the track found are: White, which is going to Gardaland (it's already arriving at the park) Yellow, which supposed to be going to a park in China and is a B&M Flyer Teal, which seems more likely for Carowinds, but is obviously not confirmed Red/Orange, which would go with HW's Thanksgiving section, but also has no confirmed destination Add this all up with the square footers that have the almond cutout, the evidence seems to be a bit strong for B&M. Now if someone can tell us a coaster manufacturer who also uses square footers with almond cutouts, then we might be able to start doubting whether or not it's a B&M. Until someone can tell me that, I fairly convinced that HW is receiving some type of B&M. Not saying I want a B&M and it would have been my last guess back on May 19th, but as I said, the evidence right now is too strong. -
^ I realize this. Sometimes changing the material becomes a necessity, especially when those polyurethane wheels start tearing up consistently, much like what was seen during the morning sometime on Goliath's Media Day if I remember correctly. Europa Park had to switch the side wheels on Wodan from polyurethane to steel, because while the bouncing of the Millennium Flyer trains through the course is minimal compared to PTC's, it was still too much for those Polyurethane Wheels to handle. I believe if RMC and GCI had went with the style of polyurethane wheels that Intamin uses, I don't think they would have such problems with the wheels tearing up. I believe Intamin uses the same ones you would find on most steel coasters, while RMC and GCI have used ones that sorta look like steel wheels. Realistically, Goliath was designed with relatively low forces, so it probably wouldn't be affected that much by switching some of the wheel assembly (mostly the side wheels) over from Polyurethane to steel, much like Wodan. Now if they went with full steel wheels, they would have needed another 1000 feet of track. I get that it won't happen, but I would probably enjoy it much more if had steel wheels, but that's just me.
-
You do realize there is a reason why the wheels aren't steel, right? Oh I do, only for sound restrictions and length reasons I believe. I just don't like the idea of a controlled feeling wooden roller coaster. Not saying I like rough wooden roller coasters, but I would prefer something of what I think my first ride on Outlaw Run will be like when I hopefully ride it next summer.

^ Depends what days you're planning on visiting. I'll say every Saturday from now until the of daily operation is going to be packed in the park, so you might be pressing your luck if you plan on visiting a weekend. From personal experience, I would recommend The Days Inn in Jasper. It's about 20 miles outside of the park. Obviously a little farther than what you're looking for, but I've never had a bad experience there. Jasper also probably has the best options in terms of food outside of Evansville in the area. Somebody who lives in Southern Indiana will be able to tell you more than I just did, seeing they know the area better, but that is usually where I stay when I'm visiting for multiple days. Your best bet would probably be to call these places ahead of time and find out what there vacancy situation is on the day your planing on visiting. You can also probably find out if they expect to have any rooms left. They should be able to tell you based on past years. -

This is all part of Thanksgiving. The name of the ride doesn't necessarily have to pertain to Thanksgiving, but more so just be related to it. The "New World" is related to Thanksgiving. I personally think The Voyage was the perfect name for that coaster as it perfectly describes the coaster and the theme that went with it. The park is going to choose or has chosen the best name possible and if you don't like it, how about you try naming it? At the end of the day, the name of the ride is just an afterthought as long as the ride is a great ride. -

According to the Holiblog, there is a construction cam going live this coming week sometime. -
So I've been posting on here for about a year now and just found this thread. Better late than never I guess. Here we go. My name is Nick, and live in Harrisburg, Illinois. I'm currently going to school at Southern Illinois University Carbondale to become a high school history teacher. My interest in Theme Parks started when I was a kid. My family has taken a mini-vacation every year to Holiday World since before I was born, going back all the way to when the park was named Santa Claus Land. I live a little less than two hours away from Holiday World and I consider it my home park. I've kind of grew up with the park, so I might often hold some biased views, but I've done my best to put those aside, and try and see the broader picture when I'm posting. Growing up with HW has also developed my love for wooden coasters. I've always been fascinated about how they work. I feel like I know more about wooden coasters than I do anything else theme park or coaster related. Other than HW, I've visited SFStL, Cedar Point, Kings Island and Worlds of Fun. After I graduate, I plan on touring the country and visiting many other Theme Parks. Right now the top of my list of theme parks to visit would go in this order: 1. Silver Dollar City 2. Knoebels 3. Dollywood.

^ If you're talking about the one you posted, it's not exactly the same one you've posted seeing there is different angles and other parts of the ride shown on this video, plus this one is longer. If that's not the case then I don't exactly know what you're talking about. I checked before I posted and this exact video hasn't been posted on here before.

^^ I believe there was a survey given out at the Holiwood Nights event a few years ago asking for input on their next steel coaster. Speaking of coaster input, does anybody remember hearing about the "Secret Nine" who gave HW input on The Voyage during the design process? Wouldn't be surprised if we have another secret group again. -

^ Why Couldn't B&M just remove the vests and leave the restraints as is? Also, if they were concerned about having enough room they could go with the Diamondback style trains. For the right price, I'm sure they could design a train type that seats like Diamondback trains with the new restraints seen on the Wing Coasters/Banshee minus the vests. Of course if this does turn out to be a B&M launched coaster, it will be interesting to see how many trains with how many cars the ride will use. -

I'm guessing that HW is building this thing in phases, seeing the majority of the work as been focused around Hyena Falls. I'm guessing once the daily operational season comes to an end they will start work where this coaster looks like it will cross The Voyage. -

^^ Lets say the HW coaster is a B&M launched coaster, wouldn't the launched section have to look something similar to that with LSM's or LIM's running through the brake fins?
