I guess I missed this, but how did we determine the color scheme? That was more of an assumption. Going through the Thanksgiving section, red and orange are two of the frequent colors you find. -
Track Spottings!
ZeroGravity55 replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Idk if I just read where somebody said they might slipping by steel plant this week, but if you're specifically looking for HW track, the tag might not necessarily say HW on it. Look for KDC or Koch Development Corporation. That is the company that owns HW. -

^ My logic is the same as yours. I'm thinking Mack LSM, but the evidence of it being a B&M just seems way too strong at this point. Only 3 more weeks until we find out! Well the idea comes from two pictures. Before we even saw the cutout of the footers in the almond shape telling us it was B&M, we had a picture of a line of footers in a consistent row (which I've seen for myself). Here's the picture: As you can see, they're not wide enough apart for a lift, but also too close together for a break run of any kind. This leads us to speculate that it is some sort of launch. Now the second picture comes from a drawing somebody on here drew up showcasing supports on the footers already constructed and a bit of a layout which would tend to back up the idea of a launch. Here's that picture: Edit: Also, if you head on over to the The Mysterious Yellow B&M Thread you'll find that there have been some pictures that have been posted of about 5 different pieces of mystery track at the B&M steel plant in Ohio. According to the people who have been posting over there, one of them appears to be a brand new type of track (based on the number of rails or something like that) and the color (orange/red) would seem to match the theme HW is going with. -

I'm sure the park has done everything they can to make sure they're protected from something like the Timberliners or PP happening again. They know they can't afford to have another product they purchase not deliver. -

If there is one thing The Gravity Group gets, it's airtime. I'm interested to see the two inverted woodies they're building in China with Timberliners. Hopefully those end up doing really well for the company and they can start building some of those coasters that size here in America. -

I'll say it's a friendly rivalry, but Ed Hart didn't have any kind words to stay about HW when they made an attempt to reopen KK (when Dan Koch was president of the park). Also, I believe in some report I read where he outlined his plan to revitalize the park, he said he expected HW's attendances figures had maxed out and they would start to decline once KK reopened. I also recall reading in that report that he said HW lacked a steel looping coaster and that Kings Island would be their only competition. He called HW's business and marketing plan vulnerable (even though he tried to duplicate it when he owned Magic Springs in Arkansas) and it was a great opportunity to take advantage of them. I don't think he ever accounted HW being able to afford a B&M (if that is indeed what it is) when he made these assumptions. I also don't think he quite gets what HW is about and how their business plan works. I've actually found the report: http://www.scribd.com/doc/110767374/KKRC-ResponseOct2012w Most of the info is on page 20, if anyone is curious. Did anybody catch this tweet from the park today? Maybe even more confirmation of a launch, but also maybe even more confirmation of a B&M, seeing their launch technology would be brand new to the market? -

^^ Umm all that information with Trademarks and Patents is free to the public on the internet and there was nothing illegal about it. If there was indeed something to find out, it would have been a name. Even if we did get a name, it wouldn't have revealed the layout, or manufacturer. He didn't undermine any of the parks work, considering what he found had nothing to do with the parks work. Even if he did, that's the parks fault for filing a trademark before the ride was announced where it could be posted on a public website. That wouldn't exactly be keeping it a secret. Thanks for sharing what you found. I was curious to know, because I was staring at the US patent and trademark site trying to figure out what in the world you found that I hadn't already seen. I can see where you thought that it might be associated with HW, as the owner of the TM as the exact name as the corporation that owns HW, the only difference being location. As for the speculation of a B&M. If it is a B&M, all I have to say is it will indeed be a game changer, especially if the park makes sure everything is done right. By that I mean taking the input they received from the enthusiasts at Holiwood Nights a few years back and making sure B&M designs it into the layout. -
Announcing "Skyline Attractions"
ZeroGravity55 replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
They're not exactly done with GCI. I'm wondering if part of this also includes developing a new type of wooden coaster track for GCI to use in competing with RMC. -

The SkyWheel trademark filled as a Ferris Wheel/Amusement Park attraction under the owner of Koch Development Corporation is not associated with Holiday World seeing they're out of Missouri. I also double checked to make sure that was legit and there is a Koch Development Corporation out of Missouri and it is. They have their own website and everything. Other than that, there was nothing out of the ordinary when I searched Koch Development Corporation (located in Indiana) on the US Trademark and Patent website as it pertains to HW. Edit: Just to further confirm this, here's the ride itself: http://myrtlebeachskywheel.com/ -

Most of us here are probably more interested in the coaster, seeing we're coaster enthusiasts, but we're also theme park enthusiasts, so we're also excited about what might be added along with the coaster. If you want to share the information, I don't think anybody is going to complain. If you don't, we've all waited 44 days, what will another 23 kill. I'm still waiting for someone (*cough*B&M*cough*) to build a hyper inverting coaster, one day. I'm willing to bet RMC will do it first. They only missed the mark by 20 feet with Goliath and Alan Schilke is a mad man when it comes to designing roller coasters. -
Thank you. There are a huge percentage of employees who are dedicated to the park (including a lot of upper management), and we, more than most probably, see some of the shortcomings of our park. Working 40, 50, 60 hours a week to actually try to help the park, it is a little bit discouraging coming home from a 15 hour day to just seeing complaints. You all have every right to complain, but I think that not feeling any optimism about the park's future is crazy. For the most part, we're doing the best we can do with what we are given, and we'll just have to be patient unfortunately. You're welcome. I completely understand what you guys are going through to some degree. I've been in a management position for about a year and half now at my job, and dealing with complaints from employees and customers is probably one of the hardest parts of my job. I feel for you guys.

^^ Beat me to it! If you're talking about the the trademark filed back in 2011 for "Holiday World Hotel", that has already been posted on here. Now if you have a possible name for the ride, go ahead and post it. It looks like we've got a designer, might as well get a name. Then all we have to do is wait for the layout to be revealed in 23 days, unless somebody figures out the microsite URL they're creating for the announcement. Edit: just saw your post. What exactly did you find? Was it the "Holiday World Hotel"? -

I think the park has more money to spend then we might think, especially if they've been following some sort long term plan leading up to this year being the year they were targeting for big expansion. Not saying they knew what rides they were going to add. From my understanding, plans for adding certain rides from certain companies is always consistently changing in this business. They've just known that they were going to be making a major expansion in 2015, which would lead them to spend their money wisely with the thought of saving up for 2015. -

When I was at the park about 10 days ago, the bolts and cut outs for the footers were not visible to me from where I was viewing at on Hyena Falls. I have pretty good eye sight, but I wasn't really looking for them either. -
Just because Rocky Mountain Construction comes in and reconstructs a coaster doesn't mean that the resulting coaster has to be super-crazy. If Six Flags wants Rocky Mountain to keep the 42" height requirement, they will absolutely do so if the price is right. I'm not against the conversion if this is the case.
-
Iconic? Umm you're probably one of very few people that holds that sentiment about Boss, but that's your opinion. Honestly I can't see them I-Boxing Screamin' Eagle. It is the one big roller coaster they have that has a 42' inch height requirement. When you think about it, that is actually very important to a family who has a kid or kids who are 44' inches tall, who think the rides they can ride suck, but they're not yet tall enough to ride the big rides with a 48' inch height requirement. I also feel the need to kind of address what I've been complaining at in some of my previous posts as we do some very dedicated employee's who care about the park and give us some great insights. I can only imagine how they feel when they work their butts off all day and get on here and read are complaints about the park, which some of us probably don't have slightness clue to what is really going on. I have no problem with the park itself. From a park management standpoint, they probably should be at the top park in the Six Flags Chain, but they probably don't agree with corporate enough for that to happen. My problem lies with corporate. My belief is they have a corporate wide vision as I said before, that is geared toward attracting the 14-22 year old demographic. Instead of pushing this vision off on all your parks, I feel like they should approach it at a park by park basis. Each park should have it's own identity and be far different from one another. But if they're going to continue forward with this current vision, PLEASE give the park the money and rides it needs to make this vision profitable for SFStL.

Holiday World (HW) Discussion Thread
ZeroGravity55 replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
You've seen the manger scene at Holiday World, right? Case closed. In addition to this, one of the park's 3 major shows is a Gospel show that they seem very proud of. Plus, Holiday World hosts a large Christian concert every year that they advertise heavily. Perhaps their "line" isn't as fine as one may think? Let me kind of explain what I meant. I'm a history major (trying to be a high school history teacher) and I have a very good understanding of the history of most holidays. History is not a pretty thing. When made my I original post, I wasn't necessarily talking about religion or what Christianity has to do with the Christmas section or potential Easter section. Both theming ideas (In my next post responding to this message) I mentioned for Easter (Easter bunnies, eggs, and jellybeans/candy) and Christmas (Reindeer and Santa) just make sense for each section, it had nothing to do with Christianity. I mentioned religion because it is associated with most holidays. It is a hot topic in a lot countries, not necessarily America, but i thought it was worth mentioning. I didn't mean to really cause any confusion or uproar about that. Looking back, I probably should have been a little more clear. I was mainly talking about themeing a holiday section or ride based off the history of the holiday kind of like they're doing with Thanksgiving right now. There are certain holiday's where you have to pick the bad from the good in terms of history. For example, we're all taught that the Indians helped the Pilgrims learn how to survive the elements in New England when they first arrived in the New World. What is not mentioned is how some Native Americans feel this contact between the Pilgrims and Indians was the start of decimation of millions of Indians here in America. The Indians helping the Pilgrims can be related to Thanksgiving, obviously, but that it something you should probably try to avoid theming into a ride or even showcasing in the Thanksgiving section given the sensitivity the subject has among Native American people. There are certain things in history that are still very touchy subjects to some people today and some of them are related to a few holidays. I was basically just saying you have to be careful in choosing good from bad, as you can still easily offend some people, even if you didn't mean too. Of course I don't think this is going happen at Holiday World, but I mentioned it because I think it's something you have to take into consideration with new Holiday themed sections and possible new ride names. -
I don't see Iron Boss happening for a while. They just sunk a lot of money into rehabbing the purple train including painting the chassis. I can see some topper track possibly being tossed it's way soon but that is about all I see happing anytime soon. Not to dispute what you've just said, but historically Six Flags has sunk a lot of money into most of the woodies that have made the conversion a season or two before the conversion happened. I believe Medusa received topper track about a year before the conversion, Iron Rattler received topper track two years before the conversion, and Cyclone at Six Flags New England has received topper track and will be closing down soon and is expected to get the conversion. I think it is also important to note that RMC has at least made repairs on each of the coasters that have eventually received the conversion, whether it's topper track or just traditional track work. According to RMC's website, Boss it one of those coasters they've made "repairs" too. Of course this is train work we're talking about, which sounds like it was done to help capacity. If I'm not mistaken, this sounds like it was done to keep you guys from having to send an empty train around the course when the line doesn't justify two trains? I imagine it gets a little difficult to explain to some close minded guests why you're having to send around an empty train. For those working at the park or those visiting the park in the next few years, start looking at the structure of the ride. Apparently RMC comes in and marks the boards down to where the structure will be removed and so forth to create the new track design of the ride. This is what someone has said about being visible on Cyclone this year on Six Flags New England thread. This should be a tell tell sign of when it will eventually happen. You'll also notice new bracing being added to the structure as well.

^ Oh I'm very aware of it, but that is not the point. They put that out to decorate and celebrate their Christmas section. It's something that is common at a lot of households in the United States during Christmas, but remember, it's just a decoration. I'm talking from a ride naming standpoint. Something you market to the public. Most of the rides in the Christmas section are based off Santa Claus, Reindeer, and ext. An Easter section would have to be focused around Easter bunnies, eggs, jelly beans, and ext. Which is why it would be better suited as a kids section. I was just merely pointing out that the park is limited in holidays they can use in which the park can have another major expansion on without having to use cheesy/childish sounding names (which there is nothing wrong with them when they're named on the proper rides), because that's all they can really choose from. -

I think it's important to note that the park has to walk a fine line in how they theme each section of their park and how they would do so with new sections moving forward. Most holidays we celebrate are connected to something religious or something ethical. They have to walk a fine line in how they theme rides in each section. In today's society, you don't want to offend anybody or any group of people for that matter. I think they also have to walk a fine line in theming such sections that could be thought of as a little cheesy. I think a Easter section would be better suited for kids. A Valentines Day section could work if they put in the right rides. You could really cater that section more toward couples, but in more of a family-friendly way (Of Course!). I think the St. Patrick's Day section would be the perfect section for major expansion, as in roller coasters, and major thrill rides. It would only work though if they explore upon the history of the Holiday, much like they have with Thanksgiving and the Pilgrims when it comes to ride naming and theming. -
See it is lacking in some departments on the family ride front (especially the kiddie coaster), but to me, family rides qualify anywhere from the 36-48" inch mark. I don't necessarily count roller coasters that go upside down (especially Ninja and Boomerang). The park has a very strong front of rides that the family can ride together. A lot of the rides that are above 48" inches (not counting the roller coasters or drop tower) also have the option for kids who aren't tall enough to ride by themselves to ride with an adult as long as they meet a certain height requirement. This very much why this park as a family feel, which I think best suits them. But with the current advertisement plan targeting teenagers from Six Flags as a company, the families in the St. Louis region are being attracted to the parks like Holiday World and Silver Dollar City. These parks recognize their audience, and cater to that audience, by showing what they can offer to families, not how many roller coasters they have.
