  1. Oh The Alton Mouse, i remember that, again from 1990 trip., it was a Vekoma model. It had a strange slanted lift hill as i recall, i wasn't that keen on it. Its at Idlewild park now it seems. Strange Lift hill!
  2. I actually liked the Pirate Ship at AT, it used to swing up pretty high. I haven't been on its since it became THE BLADE but I'm guessing its not as good. I guess it is 25 years old though. Thunder Looper was awesome. I remember the time before that i went to AT was in 1990, and TL was the only ride in "Thunder Valley" as it was then, it was strange just seeing a new coaster in the middle of nowhere. Such a shame they removed it. As i say, lousy cows.
  3. I love Snowglobes..I have ones from Busch Gardens, Sea World Orlando, Universal and Disney, and my friend got me one from Magic Mountain when she went last week. She still has a headache from Psyclone apparently. I want to collect plenty
  4. Well, I decided I would post this in light of the "Off Season" thread made today. I found these photos last year when I was moving, I had forgotten I had taken them really, and please forgive the quality of them, I was 17 and all I had was a disposable Kodak Fun Camera, and for some reason, out of the 2 days we were there, I decided to take the photos on the second , rather dull cloudy day. From what I remember, and we are going back ten years here, and lately I can barely recall last week's events, me and a few friends decided to take a trip up to Alton Towers for a couple of days. Aside from getting dreadfully lost on the way there and having an unfortunate incident at the Service Station involving my friend being wrongly accused of stealing a CD, which in fact, the shop didn't even stock, we had a great time. The first day was lovely and sunny, and not really that crowded, which was surprising for the middle of August. The second day was rather dull and grey, with some rain early on, and this was the day I decided to take the photos. Idiocy. So what was it like? Well, Nemesis was just a year old, and had massive hype in the UK press, and it did not disappoint. I remember being a tad worried about how close it came to that Mushroom Cloud Bus Tours bus, but aside from that, I recall on the first days we had multiple rides on it. Back then, Forbidden Valley was different to what it is now, no Air, no Blade, no Ripsaw, just Nemesis, the Thunder Looper and The Beast, and in my opinion, a great selection of rides for the area. Damn those local moo cows giving birth earlier in distress at the Thunder Looper. What a great ride it was, again, I recall we must have had a ride in every seat that day. And The Beast, which I think was exactly the same as the other Beast that used to be in Talbot Street, but was moved and painted from green to red. Another great Schwarzkopf coaster. Both, in my opinion, sorely missed. So what else, well, I remember the Mine Train being quite fun and well themed, and actually getting quite wet on the Rapids Ride, but not so much on that everlasting tour through the woods Log Flume. I believe we took the Sky Ride to the then Festival Park, which is now UgLand, and back then home to the Corkscrew (ouch even then), Enterprise, Energiser (replacing the Weber 1001 Nacht) and Waveswinger (still there, moved around a bit and now the, erm, Ug Swinger). Corkscrew still made that funny winding noise as you went up the chain lift, and still provided its fair share of bumps and bruises, but I guess, even back then, it was the Icon Coaster for the par, aside from Nemesis. Energiser was fun, its a shame that after it was moved to X Sector (then Fantasy World) and moved back (as Boneshaker) it has been tamed down quite a bit. It was good for what it was, a "filler" flat ride, which I think was new for that year. Enterprise was, well, the Enterprise, but fun all the same. I can’t remember much else of what we did, I do remember us once not getting the Sky Ride back from Festival Park to Forbidden Valley and walking in those bloody gardens. I don’t think we spent much time in Talbot Street (Cred Street) and I recall Fantasy World (now X Sector) having the Black Hole, which was great, and the Pirate Ship, which actually gave a really good high swing, comparable to the one at Chessington for the height it reached. And also the Huss Breakdance, Astro Dancer, which was another ride shoved from pillar to post throughout the years. Well there you have it, sorry for my patchy memories, all I do remember was having a blast of a time, getting ready for our last year at school and just having fun, like al seventeen year old guys do. Oh, and it was also the day that I was officially outed to my friends, but that's another story. I hope you like the photos, like I said, they aren’t the best quality, but as I explained, cheapo camera and a dull day. Enterprise, with some Sky Ride plastic windowsill for your pleasure Swing it..not the highest point, but i can't find that photo Pirate Ship, now Blade, then blue, now Nuclear, spot Astro-Dancer behind More yellow Vekoma, er, goodness Evil Should have actually been renamed "Boneshaker" A tree trunk, a letter "I" and Energiser Energiser, with letter "I" , moved, then returned as the lamer Boneshaker - was a good ride Waveswinger, now UgSwinger The "NEW" Beast actually , as a lick of paint and a move warranted it being "new" The Beast It's in Brazil now isn't it? Lousy cows Thunder Looper, sorely missed Mushroom Cloud Tour Bus! Nemesis, again Nemesis, a baby at 1 year old Congo River Rapids, again and i think we got wet. Kind of. Congo River Rapids Runaway Mine Train Haunted House, now Duel, in Gloomy Wood The Towers, August 95
  5. I have just found my photos..they don't look so bad considering they are 10 years old, and was young and rubbish at taking photos. Ah, the ThunderLooper!
  6. I have my photos from my trip to Alton Towers in 1995, tho for the life of me i can't remember much about the 2 days i was there. I dont mind posting them if anyone is interested though. Little trip down Alton memory lane.
  7. The Schwarzcoft Looping Star, at Dreamland in Margate. Great ride, sorely missed. They did replace it a few years later with a Silver Arrow version, but it wasn't as good. The Looping Star
  8. Great video, looks like its a lot of fun there. I liked the music too.
  9. 5 minutes from Dreamland, Margate in the UK, but seeing as though that now resembles a wasteland and car park with a woodie in the middle of it rotting away, i guess that doesn't count. So am about 90 minutes from Thorpe Park and Chessington.
  10. Next year i have planned: SF Magic Mountain Knotts Berry Farm Disneyland California Universal Studios Hollywood Also plan to go back to Florida too,so the usual suspect parks there And in the UK: Alton Towers Thorpe Park Chessington Drayton Manor Blackpool
  11. Madonna - as evidenced by avatar, also REM, Prince, Blur, Snoop Dogg....loads really
  12. Absolutely agree with you on this. Granted, as people have said "Stealth" will catch the imagination of the public i guess, with its height and uniqueness over here, but it could have had so much more. I'm hopeful of being back in Australia sometime next year, i will definitely be going on this.
  13. The theming of this will be interesting, i do hope it isnt a Superman theme. I really wanted MM to get a JOker themed ride..maybe one day
  14. Heres mine...i must change it How embarrassing
  15. Islands of Adventure My first ever visit here and now its probably one of my favourite parks ever. Gorgeous setting, great themings, kick ass rides, i was just thoroughly impressed with the whole place, which is probably why in the 15 days i was in Florida, we went here about 4 or 5 times. Hulk was amazing, and my friends face after, as he didnt know about the launch, was priceless. Dragons were awesome, and the water rides were great. I even enjoyed Dr Doom! Universal Studios FLorida Had a good time here, highlight had to be "Revenge of the Mummy" - just awesome i found. Busch Gardens Well we saw Sheikra, but that was a week before it opened. Great day, great coasters, apart from the girl puking up on the Phoenix. Montu and Kumba are all kinds of loveliness. MGM Studios Another great day at a great park, finally got on the Tower of Terror, was amazing. Rock n Rollercoaster was fine, but i wasn't overly impressed, but a good ride nonetheless. Sea World Florida Finally got on Kraken, and i was not disappointed, i thoroughly enjoyed this, and thank god it was a quiet day, i think we must have rode it about 20 times! Thorpe Park For quite a small park, it packs a punch! Enjoyed the new Slammer and Rush rides immensely, Colossus, has gotten a tad rough, but still good, Nemesis Inferno was a great ride. Dreamland, Margate Well, i live about 5 minutes away from here, and i was so enthused when i found out it would be open this year...how sad it was then, to see this once fun place (well 10 or so years ago before it was a car park and wasteland) in the state it was. The lovely Scenic Railway looked to be falling apart, and a few flat rides from travelling fairs plonked down with some imbeciles operating them wasnt encouraging..i mean, Top Buzz was operated by some kid who was about 8 years old, maximum. How i wish someone would take over and use this place to its full potential Looking forward to next year where i intend to go to many more places!
  16. Absolutely, i wish we had the prices for petrol the US have! I doubt it would cause that much of a problem to parks would it?
  17. Indeed, i was telling my brother about it, he was most excited. It will do well. Oh well have to wait till my Southern California trip next year!
  18. Seems to be coming along at a good pace. The one thing that sort of irks me about this project, is why they went for a "mini" version of Kingda Ka....why couldnt we have got something more similar to X-Lerator?
  19. I'm just curious, apologies if this has been covered elsewhere. I have read a fair bit about Deja-Vu, specifically the one at SFMM, being unreliable, etc. What sort of problems has it encountered? I did read somewhere once about it stalling a fair bit, was this true? Also, as a ride experience, what is it like, is it a typical Vekoma, ie, a bit rough?
  20. I saw the show on Sky Travel's "Ticket to Ride" weekend, i wish they would get some updated shows! I meant to mention i saw Robb making some comments on The Viper at SFMM, and also in a couple of other shows Robb and Elissa were on a couple of coasters From what i saw on one of the programmes, Magic Mountain struck a deal with Warner Bros to use their characters in the park for promotional purposes etc, in the mid 70's.
  21. Popeye & Blutos Bilge rat Barges really is the best rapids ride i have ever been on, tremendous theming, suprises and soakings! Also Rip Saw Falls was excellent, the bunny hop thing under ground level was great, and excellent theming, tho i just love the horse giggling. Tidal Wave at Thorpe Park is quite good for a soaking, but don't get me started on their "Ribena Rapids - dreadful.
  22. I was on the Top Buzz in Margate today, they also push the restraints down extra hard, plus you have a seat belt connected to the restraint. I did notice the other week in Thorpe Park that Samurai's restraints do let you move around a bit and they are also quite noisy i thought. What a tragic accident to happen, straight after the LadyBug incident, condolences to all families involved.
  23. I watched it the other day! I thought it was good, obviously they got away with a lot more. One of my highlights was Condoleeza Rice at college in 1974....MARVELLOUS!
  24. Here is some concept art that appeared on the site
  25. Hey everybody! This thread is simple! Rather than having a million little threads about everything that goes on at Thorpe Park, this thread is designed to consolidate it all into one user-friendly thread. Feel free to use it to post updates, trip reports, questions, comments, and of course, general discussion. For pictures and videos of the park as well as past updates, see TPR's Park Index Page. Official Park Website Below are some links to past updates from the park, you may be interested in. The choices are as follow: Peak Fear The Edge IKON Demon’s Drop The Humdinger Is it me or are these absolutely dreadful names for what is going to be the parks landmark coaster and will no doubt generate a ton of publicity over here and within the coaster community. It seems Tussauds are running out of ideas for good names, gone are good names like "Nemesis", "Oblivion", "Air" , "Rita", "Rush", "Slammer" and now one of these choices. I do hope they think of something better.
