The coaster has been officially announced by the park as of today. Its name is "Tantrum" and it will top out at a height of 98 feet. The ride will have a top speed of 52 mph. "Tantrum riders will embark on a 98-foot vertical lift at a 90-degree angle – straight up the coaster’s first hill. In a matter of seconds, upon reaching its apex, the train plummets into a 97-degree drop and pretzel inversion. Reaching speeds of 52 mph, the coaster snakes through the structure over a bunny hop, keeps riders wondering which way is up or down during an Immelman turn and finishes with a tilted loop."

I last saw Maroon 5 a few weeks ago. They put on a great show, but I didn't really care for the opening acts.

Great point about the ECF. This year it was close to the same price (and actually maybe even a little more) to go to the fair and get the wristband on top of the fair admission. Darien lake also had the online and Tops bogo going at that point, so if you took advantage of those offers it was actually significantly cheaper to go to DL over the ECF for rides. Perhaps not surprisingly, the ECF said attendance dropped off a bit this year. They blamed the very hot weather which may have had some impact, but I think some of it was probably due to the fair becoming too expensive for many fam

Minimum wage is set to increase in NYS again this year, so I'd bet that contributes towards the increased price. The season pass had also stayed the same price for several years before going up this year and like Bill said it is still a good deal. In regards to the discussion on attendance - it had been poor for a few years. When you would go to the park the parking lots would rarely be filled from around 2012-2014. I think that has really made a turn around over the last two years. I'm not sure how you came up with knowing it is at a million, though, coasterkid.

Whats The Weather Like Where You Live?
Golddisk replied to RtherBOnACoaster's topic in Random, Random, Random
The temperature where I live was average for this time of year, but it was stormy and rainy for most of the day except for a few hours of sun towards the middle of the day. -
Recently I have been playing a lot of Rainbow Six: Siege on my Xbox One. Pretty cool game, although there are a few bugs here and there. I also just bought This War of Mine off Steam last weekend as it was on sale. I've made it to day 9 so far. Pretty cool game, but I would suggest picking it up when it is on sale and not paying full price for it.

The weather is the biggest factor, I think. If it is 50 degrees or higher out and calm without rain/snow, then the events are decently attended. If its cooler, rainy, or even snowing, then the park is dead and everyone goes to other places in the area with all indoor haunts like Frightworld and Haunted Catacombs so that they don't have to be exposed to the elements. I do think that if Darien had a large indoor area where they could fit 3-4 haunted houses like Frightworld/Haunted Catacombs, then the event would definitely be a lot bigger of a draw. The bus rides always seemed like a bi

My favorites are custard or Bavarian cream filled donuts. After those, my next pick would be peanut donuts.

The meal plan costs the same price as a season pass, so as the price of the season pass goes up throughout the season, so does the price of the meal plan (typically $64.99 in May, $69.99 in June, and $74.99 July - September). If you plan on coming 7-8 times and eating a meal in the park each time, the meal plan will definitely pay for itself if you figure a cost of around $10 a meal.

Do You Bother With Water Parks?
Golddisk replied to Golddisk's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
The slide looks like it would be fun and have some good air time for a water slide, but I imagine there would be a number of injuries on it each season as well! -
Unless they add two attractions again next season like they did in 2015, I think next years additions will be a dry ride instead of another year of just a water ride. That way it will likely please the most people as they can say something like: last year we took care of adding a new ride in the waterpark, so this year we wanted to make an addition for our guests who prefer dry rides. If they did two additions again (which I don't think they will if they are purchasing a second train for ROS), then I think we would see one dry park and one water park addition again like 2015 as that makes

Everyone has a good point about capacity that I forgot about... At my home park, especially on hot days, the lines can easily exceed 45 minutes for a really quick ride. Plus, most of that time is spent standing shirtless exposed to sunburn even with sunscreen. Slightly cooler and v weekday days are definitely better for a water park. -
Pretty simple question, but I think a good one - do you do water parks? I know of many people who like amusement parks but only really do the dry rides. Of course, I know some people who are opposite and prefer the water rides over dry rides. Do you fall into either of these categories, or do you do both? I'm not a big water park person, but I will ride wet rides like log flumes. I have occasionally gone on some water park rides, but they never take up the majority of my visit. I usually can't be bothered with the hassle of getting a locker, changed into swim trunks, and then changing back

Ocean Park Vietnam
Golddisk replied to Texasbest2015's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Overall it looks like a decent park. That is a very high cable car ride - I imagine it was quite expensive to build, too. Kind of surprising to put that much money into a cable car type ride if you ask me. -

I would be Gatekeeper at Cedar Point from early last summer. -
Weirdest Things The 'GP' Have Said
Golddisk replied to maliboomer's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Had to share this comment from the Darien Lake Facebook page regarding Ride of Steel and maintenance issues: "they chose to get the coaster from that company [referring to Intamin]. Sometimes the cheapest bidder isn't always the best." Not a weird comment but an uninformed one at least. -
1. I know most of the supports were finished by the end of last season. Not sure if the track was started or not as I forgot to look. 2. Yes, as confirmed by the pictures from Facebook. 3. Not sure, but I do know the old water park gate where Ripcurl is supposed to go has been taken down. The new trains look awesome and I agree with bluestreak on the retheme.

The 2016 park map is up. I did not notice many changes except RipCurl racer and Ignite the Night having "colorblast" as its subtitle. The Galaxy Theater was also left off, so it looks like that will be SBNO again this season, but I think that was expected. https://www.darienlake.com/downloads/park-map.pdf

I haven't really binge watched any thing recently. The last show I did was Burn Notice on Netflix. I could sit down and watch 5 or more episodes of it easily at one time.
