Disappointment FTL. My best friend and I are going to Niagara Falls to celebrate my 19th birthday a week late (drinking/gambling age in Canada is 19). I had her convinced to take a side trip to Canada's Wonderland with me, but we can't because A) the park is only open on weekends and B) she has work on Friday, so we can't stay that long. Finally I thought I was gonna be able to get on Behemoth...probably as close as I'll ever get

Photo TR: Jason's One-Time Sports Venue Thread
Josh Linn replied to printersdevil78's topic in Random, Random, Random
LOL...I randomly looked into this thread just because it mentioned OPACY, and when I saw my name I had to double take. Nice picks, and go O's. -
It's going right where HSTC was. Golden Nugget is going somewhere else, apparently.

Indeed, but sadly that one hasn't aged quite as well! A few small things: The tent over the Bumper Boat ride also came from Kennywood (we put it over a Cuddle-Up in the early 80s). We also had an Imax-style attraction in a geodesic dome called Cinema 180 that was sold to Knoebels, though I can't seem to find any confirmation as to whether it is still being (or ever was) used there. Wow, didn't know that. Damn, Knoebel's has a ton of Kennywood hand-me-downs.

Orioles doing better than I expected, especially with Adam Eaton and Mark Hendrickson in the rotation. I can't wait until the young pitchers get up here, then we'll be ready to make some noise. We certainly have the offense to do so...

Planned Trips This Summer
Josh Linn replied to Homeboy23's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I'm definitely hitting up Knoebel's multiple times, but right now the only real trip I have planned is to SFNE-Lake Compounce, and I'll probably pick up the 3 adult credits in Ocean City, MD when I go down there in June. -
Where did the rush go?
Josh Linn replied to skaunit's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I have the same problem. Back when I started riding coasters, I got a rush on every ride I went on. Hell, I thought Iron Dragon was amazing after I got off. Now, it's only a select few that get me that feeling. El Toro, Dragster, Kingda Ka, Millennium Force, and Storm Runner are the only ones I can think of that do. I'll always come off the ride pumped and excited as can be for those, but the others are just normal now. It sucks, really. -
How Often Do You Go To Your Local Park?
Josh Linn replied to sfmmrules!'s topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
When I was younger, I would go to Knoebel's every night they had bargain night (Fridays, I believe). When I got older, I still went near every weekend, but in the last few years my visits have decreased for whatever reason. I plan on visiting a lot this summer though, just to catch a quick ride on Phoenix, Twister, and the Turns when it opens. That's one thing I love about Knoebel's, you can just go and chill out, catch a quick ride or two, costs $5-$10 tops. -
Best and Lamest Coaster "Ending"
Josh Linn replied to Teddymonster's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I forgot to add the best ones to go along with the worst, so without further adieu: Phoenix Batman: The Ride Top Thrill Dragster (since the drop basically is the ending) Talon Raptor Fahrenheit -
This is a trip I was planning to take last summer, but I was unable to...it's very small, as it just consists of the following: Day 1 Drive from PA to Connecticut Lake Compounce (planning to go whenever their 'twilight' discount kicks in) Stay somewhere Day 2 Six Flags New England Drive home I have a few questions: 1. Is LC worth a full day? Basically the only things I see that I want to do there are the coasters, the swing, the drop tower, the dark ride, and some other flats, and I'm thinking that I should be able to finish that in a few hours, with some time included for Boulder Dash re-rides. I was just checking to see if there's something I'm missing, or maybe long lines wouldn't permit such a quick run-through, etc. 2. Is Quassy worth visiting? I saw that it's pretty close to LC and considered heading over to steal a credit. Anything else there that's any good? 3. I was considering adding Rye Playland on the way home from SFNE since it's (sort of) in the way. Any thoughts on that? I know they have Dragon Coaster and the flyer, but not sure of anything else. Any answers would be greatly appreciated.

Best and Lamest Coaster "Ending"

This. I've never been so bored on a roller coaster in my life. Skyliner at Lakemont Park is similar, which is a shame because the first half of the ride is insane. -

What is your local park?
Josh Linn replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
USA Eastern... Knoebel's - 10 minutes Hersheypark - 1 hour, 20 minutes Dorney Park - 1 hour, 30 minutes Six Flags Great Adventure - 2 hours, 30 minutes -
I'll help with Lakemont. It'll be dead. Expect walk-ons for every ride all day. I was able to get on Skyliner like 12 times in a row without getting off once.

I was there in June of 2008 and the line was usually 30-45 minutes, however I did get on it in 10 minutes after a rain storm. There's this Chinese restaurant near the Great Bear area that's very good, I'd check that out if you like Chinese food. As for outside of Hershey, go to Fuddruckers, which is about 5 minutes away right off the interstate. Some of the best hamburgers ever made there. From what I've noticed over the years, Great Bear, Storm Runner, and Comet have the longest lines, with Fahrenheit included also. They're still not that bad compared to lines at other parks, but long by Hershey standards. Chocolate World. As for my home park, Knoebel's: Depends on how much you want to ride. If you get the handstamp/wristband, I'd say around 50-60, but if you just want a few rides on Phoenix, Twister, Flying Turns, and some of the flats, I'd say like 30 or 40 tops. Knoebel's has some of the shortest lines that you'll find. They're famous in the enthusiast world for their sub-30 second dispatches. If you see the line for Phoenix overflowing out onto the midway, don't get bummed, because it's only about a 15-20 minute wait from there. Twister never really gets that long of a line, either. Flying Turns will probably be a bit of a wait because it's new. Fantastic, much better than your run of the mill corporate parks. Everywhere, lol. But to list places, I'd go with Cesari's Pizza and the International Food Court as the top two, but you really can't go wrong anywhere you go. Fairly cheap and very good. For Dorney: Eh, it's typical Cedar Fair food. I always go to the Subway that's over by Hydra. I usually go to Talon first, then over to Steel Force and knock out that area. I haven't been there since 2004, so now I'd probably go from Talon to Hydra/Meteor to Steel Force/Possessed. Steel Force - No Thunderhawk - No, but it's kinda shifty, if you know what I mean. I think it'd be rough if they didn't trim it to death, but as is it's more slow than anything. I've never encountered long lines at Dorney, ever. Talon and Steel Force should be 15-20 minute waits at the most, and a majority of the other rides are walk-ons. Talon Steel Force Hydra (I assume) Possessed (I assume) Meteor Dominator The rapids ride (if you like them)
