Lagoon Discussion Thread

There's the Green Line light rail that connects the airport to the commuter train that has a stop across Interstate 15 from Lagoon. There's a free shuttle that connects that train station to the park. I would say we have a lot a flat rides. Some of the more unique or classic ones are; Samurai (Mondial Top Scan) Rock-O-Plane (Eyerly Aircraft Rock-O-Plane) Flying Aces (Bisch Rocco Flying Skooters 10; and they allow you to snap the cables!) And if you're into dark rides, Lagoon has 2 Bill Tracy rides; Dracula's Castle and Terroride. Terroride was just refurbed a couple season's back and is phenominal, but Dracula's Castle has aged. Its slated to get a refurb for the next season, but it's rumor only. Sent from my VS990 using Tapatalk -

I would expect a family thrill ride/coaster. Lagoon has a huge family demographic and their last two biggest rides catered to the thrill seekers. However, I feel we will see a lot of money go into theming for this ride. After the success of the Terroride revamp, I expect some great theming results for this ride that everyone will love, kids and adults alike. Sent from my VS990 using Tapatalk -

I suggest visiting the national parks with Lagoon. During the summer months, Utah doesn't have much to offer besides Lagoon, Snowbird, (they have summer month activities and rides: multiple ski resorts out here do,) a small but well-run zoo, and LDS museums everywhere. If you're not into any of that other stuff, the national parks are the best bet to make the most out of a visit to Utah. But, don't forget about the summer tubing that can be done at the Olympic Park during summer days as well. It is a bit more thrilling than you'd expect. Sent from my VS990 using Tapatalk -

The current construction area is more than double the size Cannibal takes up, and there's a huge hole in the middle of it. It's exciting to see! I hope Primordial becomes the dark ride/roller coaster hybrid it's been rumored. Sent from my VS990 using Tapatalk -

If you come during the week before Lagoon's haunt opens, some haunts in the state would be open during that time. Here's the top of those that should be open when you come down if you're interested in any of them. Never say never. Lagoon could still try an in-house wooden coaster someday. Sent from my VS990 using Tapatalk -

With them being new trains, I somewhat expect it to get as fast as it used to be like how Stormchaser's end used to be a crawl, but now it zips through the end. Sent from my VS990 using Tapatalk -

I'm guessing you mean forgettable. Yes, I meant forgettable. Of course. my opinion is going to differ from locals that have an emotional attachment. Just like I feel differently about the Cyclone at Coney Island than many one time riders. For locals, it doesn't have the cleanest record anyway. It is overall rough and loud on the turns, has barely any floater airtime, (and only in certain seats,) and is known for its age more than its rideability. New trains will make it at least a smooth, classic ride. Although most of the track has been redone over the last ten years at most, it still has the old and rickety stigma. I advise against going to the site. It froze my device and restarted it with missing programs. Hopefully the company can fix that. Sent from my VS990 using Tapatalk -

I know this is considered small, but Jet Star 2's are still fairly intense rides, especially when Bat at Lagoon is on the list, but not Jet Star 2. -

I've heard countless times by the GP that they find Elitch Gardens a far better amusement park than Lagoon, so they are doing something right that regular enthusiasts don't see. Sent from my VS990 using Tapatalk -

Honestly, the only reason it's been a more solid rumor is because the water ride is what is talked about more as of late, however plans can change easily with this place. I remember when Cannibal was supposedly going to be named Savage before the name Cannibal showed up. If it is back to a dark ride coaster hybrid of sorts, I'm all for it as well. Either is a good idea. I can see a couple more flats in due time, but I noticed a while back how Lagoon has one of the highest amount of rides that flip you upside down, (8) so I don't see them getting any thrilling flat rides anytime soon, but I would LOVE for a any giant frisbee at Lagoon. Even if the budget was over on Cannibal, Terroride's custom in-house refurb went over smoothly this year, and I expect the same outcome from Dracula's Castle's refurb coming next year (rumoured.) I don't think they are ready to stop on in-house ride additions. BomBora was technically Lagoon's first in-house ride as well, and it didn't go over budget. This year doesn't seem like a new ride addition, but I say the budget is for new rides is still being spent elsewhere. Screamer was dismantled before the season ended for what is rumored to be new bathrooms in that location, as Screamer would be moving with Samurai over by the new bathrooms that opened this year near Cannibal. With the rumoured in-house custom set rebuild for Dracula's Castle and new trains for Roller Coaster, I see the budget as well spent for this year and still give what the local gp want. The biggest complaints from gp were the bathrooms and how the older rides "look like they are falling apart." From what I've heard, Primordial isn't looking at an opening until 2020 or 2021. Also, the rumor holding up still that it's a dinosaur themed water ride with a budget somewhere between $12-20 million including a mountain. Sent from my VS990 using Tapatalk -
Samurai at Lagoon has been down all year for "maintenance" and never opened for the season. Even with it being a prototype, Mondial has never had the best of luck with their thrill rides ever. Both Samurai and Cliffhanger at Lagoon have so much downtime between themselves, I see why Lagoon hasn't bought a ride from them since, even if those rides are some of the best at Lagoon.

I believe S&S might want to rethink who they go through for fabrication. I remember a similar rattle issue with El Loco at Adventuredome. Except the Free-Spins, of course. Sent from my VS990 using Tapatalk -

With how much that rumor is thrown around, it is still just a rumor. To look at the rumor realistically, RMC has 2 hybrids and at least one Raptor track coaster in the works at this time. They are still a fairly small company so they can't do so many projects at once. I do see an RMC happening here, but not for another few years unfortunately. Sent from my VS990 using Tapatalk -

I guess the correct wording would be with how secluded Lagoon is, it's hard to warrant a full trip for. However, there's two mountain coasters and you can sled down the Olympic ski jumps during the summertime. Might not be completely thrilling but there's thrilling aspects to be found in Utah outside of Lagoon. One great thrill is driving after one drink (or using mouthwash.) Such a risky move out here now. -

I would think Ruka Safari is a Jump Around model. But a Demolition Derby ride is a fair choice. However, having two rides similar to Red Rock Rally (Flying Tigers being a similar Classic Whip configuration,) I find it odd they didn't go with a Happy Swing or many of the other kid rides Zamperla offers that are much more unique. I mean, it works. This is probably the only park where a relocated Boomerang would be accepted, even if it replaced Corkscrew. With it being Cedar Fair, you know they would also put brand new trains onto it like they did with Carowind's Flying Cobras. I see it as a wise decision for a park that needs something if that is the case. Sent from my VS990 using Tapatalk -
Lagoon also is a successful park from the golden ages. The beginning success is the move they did only ten years into the park's life which made it be the only park in Utah. The rest stayed on the shores of the Great Salt Lake, meeting a demise except for Saltair becoming a stage for traveling raves and bands. The move helped Lagoon expand on it's own terms, and once the fire broke out in 1953(4?) it created a new lease on the park. From that moment forward, the phrase, "new attraction every year" was made and created a surge in attractions that kept going as tradition until 2010. Dal Freeman played a key role in this since working with Lagoon in the 90's starting with Rattlesnake Rapids and forward from there. With his work in every addition since then, he made Lagoon a destination park with locals, then striking oil with Cannibal. It's debatable to say, but I can see Lagoon become as popular as Silver Dollar City within the next 10 years if additions play to that favor. Sent from my VS990 using Tapatalk

Just new restrooms with a small expansion of the current edge of the park. No word on what will go in the old restroom spot, or what would be part of the expansion. Said to happen in 2018. Right now most speculation also says Hydro Luge (a water slide complex) could be removed for the expansion. Sent from my VS990 using Tapatalk
