  1. La Ronde just announced the permanent closure of the Pitoune, the park's classic log flume ride, after 50 seasons of operation. I imagine they probably discovered a serious security problem for taking such a decision (it wouldn't be a very good/interesting spot to build a new ride since most of the flume is over the lake or very close to it). https://www.sixflags.com/larondeen/attractions/pitoune http://montreal.ctvnews.ca/end-of-an-era-la-ronde-puts-the-pitoune-to-bed-1.3432551 Edit : I've corrected the link on La Ronde's website, the previous one was broken.
  2. Sorry for the double post, but La Ronde just updated the park map, and the Cobra is gone ! How unfortunate https://static.sixflags.com/website/files/lr_park-map.pdf
  3. ^It does, I'm glad they got that go-kart track out of its misery
  4. Picture on Xtreme LaRonde forum I guess they probably still have some ground work to do, but looks like they are done installing the structure
  5. It could probably be a good coaster if it became a floorless like what Cedar Fair did to Mantis/Rougarou. Cobra has a fairly cool layout. Even though it's originally an Intamin/Giovanola, I'm sure that with a few tweaks it could become a floorless and it would be a whole lot better than it is right now as a stand-up.
  6. This would be rather surprising, because removing it during the canadian winter wouldn't be an easy task, plus they would also need enough time afterward to install the new ride for the start of the season; I believe Titan has higher chances of being installed on the former Go-Kart spot next to Vampire's entrance.
  7. Seemed a bit odd at first as the park already has a pendulum ride (Manitou), but as it became very weak over the years, having a more extreme version will be a cool addition.
  8. ^I havn't tried neither of the two other Intamin stand-up but all I can say is Cobra really sucks
  9. Even though you might need a Flash Pass, I think you would probably be fine in these hours if you really wish to visit La Ronde, as the park tended, in the last seasons, to have relatively light crowds in September. It might possibly be a bit better early in the day though, so perhaps going from opening to 2 or 3 would be a better idea. Trust me, although the park has improved in my opinion quite a lot in recent years, it is still not worthy of a full day outing for someone with limited time in the area. If you go early in the day instead of 2-7, I would suggest starting with either ends of the park (ideally Goliath, and ride Vampire early in the day too); you could perhaps even park your car in the rear parking if it's open, get to Goliath quickly and get a few rides before the line fills up. After that it will depend on which rides you would like to ride the most, but I would suggest trying out Le Dragon (close to Goliath, surprisingly fun coaster with low capacity) or Le Monstre next. Other fun rides you might like are La Pitoune (log flume), Demon (Mondial Top-Spin), Gravitor (flying carpet, isn't open yet but SFSTL peoples say it was cool), Orbite (surprisingly powerful S&S tower). Here are also a few rides you may totally afford to miss : Ednör (SLC), Cobra (Intamin Stand-up, very very rough), Super Manège (Vekoma Corskrew, not the worst but not the best neither), Boomerang (quite rough too). Don't hesitate to ride the Minirail to go from one end of the park to the other, it might not be fast but it is for sure more pleasant than walking .
  10. My brother was at the park today and sent me the following picture of the station setup : Line for VR/non VR on Goliath He tried the VR and told me it was a pretty damn cool ride experience .
  11. ^^I went Saturday, Vampire backward is up and running, so is Phoenix (the line is insane) and the VR headsets on Goliath. Unfortunately Gravitor is not open yet, there is a small sign saying it will open soon but they didn't write up a specific date so "eventually" is probably the best we can expect. I have no idea how the operations were on the new rides though, I only quickly toured the park an hour before the park closed. And ^ Nickman I don't know if you followed any theme park news outside of Canada in recent years, but Vampire backwards isn't a new idea; Six Flags owns two sets of reverse wheel sets for B&M inverts that they sent to several parks which had a Batman: the Ride coaster since 2012, I believe.
  12. ^VR will be optionnal, if you prefer to ride without you may.
  13. ^Phoenix will be in the old Twister spot (near the pirate ship), and Gravitor will occupy the space actually occupied by the soccer game (also near Twister/Pirate Ship)
  14. Out of curiosity, what makes you say precisely 2021? And yeah, Comet could use a bit of retracking, it's still a great ride but it was pretty rough last year compared to previous years.
  15. Fright Fest isn't a separate event as you have access to all of the park's rides as usual. However, for the haunted houses several are free while others (like the one in and around Nightmare) require an additional fee. The Great Escape has a part of its website concerning Fright Fest, so have a look for more infos : https://frightfest.sixflags.com/greatescape/
  16. On Facebook they didn't claim it was a coaster, but they did announce it as a "Looping Coaster" in the newsletter. Of course that's a new thrill ride, but still very disappointing.
  17. Well that's great news! The Flying Eagles, if we don't take account of the poor capacity, is a fun ride which will be a much needed addition for families at La Ronde. Vampire backward, I was expecting it to come to Montreal someday, so I can't wait to try it out! And the third ride, whatever it is... A new thrill ride, it's better than a slap in the face, right?
  18. ^As a customer-service employee (at a Subway though, not a theme park ) who's main language is french, I consider it very nice when anglophones try to speak french, and if they have difficulties I will switch to english without problem. Even if it's just Bonjour or Merci, believe me it counts. You did the effort and that's very nice of your part. However that's my POV, it may depend of the employee you speak to, but usually french-speaking employees are willing to help english-speaking peoples. Also, talking about the rudeness of La Ronde's employees, it's still not perfect but I've seen a lot of improvement over the last two years, and the employees I talked to were a lot more polite and "seemed" to like their job more than previous years. It did not, sadly, improve much the operations of the ride, though.
  19. ^Six Flags sent the same message and created the same Facebook event for every park, so it doesn't mean much for what La Ronde could get in 2016.
  20. SFNE online just posted on their Facebook page a picture of a mystery crate that appeared at TGE today, apparently next to Thunder Alley. I'm going to the park today or tomorrow, so I'll try to take a photo and post it here. I really wonder what it could be, and that actually makes me a little bit more excited for 2016 as I wasn't expecting anything from the park! EDIT : here's a picture of the crate I got while I was eating an ice cream cone at Martha's, I didn't bothered to get inside the park but I will tomorrow. Until then SFNEonline has pretty good pictures on their FB page as I said above. And here's the mystery crate!
  21. I uploaded these 3 POVs some time ago: [coastertube]http://www.themeparkreview.com/coastertube/play.php?vid=130305-capitale-express-pov_z2oo[/coastertube] The Capitale Express indoor coaster at the Méga Parc in Québec city. It's a 1988 Mack rides creation, and quite fun. [coastertube]http://www.themeparkreview.com/coastertube/play.php?vid=canyon-blaster-front_1_76bj[/coastertube] The Canyon Blaster at The Great Escape, relocated Arrow mine train from Opryland. [coastertube]http://www.themeparkreview.com/coastertube/play.php?vid=canyon-blaster-backward_1_h40p[/coastertube] The Canyon Blaster again, as it ran backward for one season (in 2013 if I remember well). Of course all of these were filmed with park permission If you would like to use one of these, feel free to delete the shitty intro I added at the beginning (which is obviously not copied on TPR's model... )
  22. I've been on the one at the Mega Parc in Quebec city, even though it's obviously nowhere close to an S&S tower in term of airtime, it is a fun ride. You don't really feel airtime but you do have "that feeling" in your stomach when it drops, so if you like that you will be pleased!
  23. Well, it's pretty much like every Subway everywhere, a little more expensive There's two actually, one in the Fort Edmonton "themed" area near the main entrance, and one next to the back entrance, close to Ednör. Speaking of chain foods there's also a few Pizza-Pizza (I think they are only in Canada but I'll still mention it) and a McDonald's in the kiddie area.
  24. The food at La Ronde is typical Six Flags. However, if you plan to get to La Ronde by public transports, there's a lot of restaurants at the Longueuil Metro Station and in Montreal, depending on where is your hotel, so for lunch it might be more difficult but if you don't mind eating a little late I would suggest finding a nearby restaurant after your visit.
